For the Eldrazi Scion idea. There actually is a Raggadragga deck that Matt Morgan made. Since the Scions/Spawns have a mana ability they all get buffed by Raggadragga making them actual useful even when not attacking and they have psuedo vigilance.
My personal favorite unique deck i have ever made is what i call Jumpstart Commander. I recommend anyone try it, i made 5 mono color 50 card commander decks with a partner as the commander, then you shuffle 2 of them together before playing and you have any 2 color combo you want to play that day. A bonus is all 5 decks are similar power so if you want to introduce someone to the game or just have a super equal game you can both pick 2 of the decks and it will be a fair match.

I was just thinking about this the other day. Using a bunch of draft chaff, I wanted to build 50 card archetypes and mash them like jumpstart packs. Given everything is catered towards EDH, I’m surprised Wotc isn’t on it.
Haktos the unscarred works AMAZING w the static commander effects, since you cant realiably enchant or equip him. I have been working on this list for a bit, but still need to cut some cards

I've made a forced shuffle deck in grixis, what ended up happening was it was just extremely time consuming to wait for people to search, and the only way to close out the game was pings through psychogenic probe. In a format full of game ending creatures and enchants like craterhoof and fiery emancipation, there isn't enough time to sit around and force shuffles for little to no payoff
I've got a deck similar to your Super Voltron idea using Zurgo and Ojutai from March of the Machine. Their combat trigger allows you to bounce it back to your hand every turn, and give it good protection with the hexproof each turn you cast it. I'm then using a bunch of backgrounds and stuff like duelist heritage to load it up with abilities that stick around even though I'm bouncing it to my hand, and don't need equipping. The deck is crazy fun to play, gets constant card advantage from the combat damage trigger, and I run a janky extra turns wincon using Medomai and something like Ilharg to keep cheating Medomai in
I actually think Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer could work really well as a "partner with" tribal commander! The partner ability is an etb, so you can use Rocco as a toolbox to go get any cheap partner creature you need for the situation while getting the added partner value
I lowkey loved the partner with tribal and what I was thinking is to take advantage of having creatures/cards in your hand and discarding them for value - like for spellshapers or maybe just plain zombie infestation. Or something that benefits you from revealing a card from your hand, just like Charge of the Forever-beast or Titan's Presence. Just a thought.
Oh my gosh it's like I have to talk about all my decks in this video. I have a Kediss and Jeska mono red partner deck. My deck is just filled to the brim with threaten cards and both jeskas combat damage trippler and kedis says "commanders you control" so it works with other people's commanders. The biggest problem is I sit down with the deck and people read my commanders say and they just never cast their commander unless necessary.
I did the maximum commander thing with my Sliver deck. I roll a d6 at the beginning of each game and pick one of the WUBRG slivers to lead the deck. It makes playing Slivers a little less repetitive and less scary for my opponents, because I can't just build around some combo I fetch w/Overlord or infinite tokens with the Queen or whatever. It's awesome.
Underwhelming tribe I make work, fungus. Look at Falco Spara. Best colors for draw, protection, ramp, and proliferate. The fungus each get counter at upkeep, which you can use to abuse commanders ability. Would love to see your direction.
Seems very cool. I’m going with thelon for my fungus deck, I think there’s enough proliferate now to abuse it, but I like that idea. Recently made a Rigo streetwise mentor, because of the colors and card advantage. I could see that working well for a fungus deck too, the saprolings can attack to draw cards with Rigo.
Joey Schultz from EDHREC has a “commander” commander deck in keeping with #2, where it was basically a voltron deck for its partner Commanders, Tymna and Tana, making use of all the cards that add abilities to your commander. It always seemed very unique.
I had a Teysa Karlov with a bunch of legends that a I could swap her. This idea came from the multiple legends per deck in the precons. I garantee this is one of the most fun things you can do while deckbuilding, specially while playing. You bring a deck that is actually 5 or 10 different ones, and this make your deck provides fun to you for mich longer time
Congrats! Just want to say that this channel has become probably my favorite channel for MTG content. Love the unique ideas and perspectives, and I’ve derived a lot of inspiration for my own decks from here. Also, I had no idea that you could actually steal someone’s commander and kill them with their own commander damage. It would be interesting if that actually turned into an archetype of the format. I could see Yasova Dragonclaw being a good commander for that.

For the Partner With tribal you can go with the First Doctor (that searches the TARDIS) and Amy Pond (that partner with Rory Williams) so you have two partner pairings in the command zone, kind of. Also 3 colors in Jeskai.
These are my favorite vids of yours! I have a Jodah the Unifier Partner With Tribal deck since Ikoria came out. Play one partner, get two-three spells cause the partner with trigger with the Cascade. The Cascade can Cascade into another partner so you can get another partner out of the deck. I have a bunch of ideas you can use for deck ideas if you ever need them! Have 88 decks so far
Rats deck for #6 the “random commander” they keep printing new rat commanders and I have a Karumonix deck that I’ve kind of fallen out of love with. I think this idea is perfect
Oh man! I am somebody who loves white borders. So excited for your shoutout on the idea. Started my Magic journey late and just thought the white bordered cards looked so cool. Not knowing that most people hated those cards haha. I have fictionally built two complete white border decks, maybe someday they will be brought to life. Commanders I chose were Xira Arien and Dakon Blackblade. I also played around with Rubinia Soulsinger, but never finished it. Lastly, Nebuchadnezzar I always thought would be a cool build but in all white borders, the support I think to manipulate cards would just be too difficult. Anyways, thank as always for the amazing content. One of the best MTG channels on the webs!
I like putting white bordered basic lands in decks. I like the nostalgia, but it also makes it easier to see the basic lands when I search my deck for ramping. Form and function.
Maybe I am old-school and an exception but I've always found white-bordered Revised to 7th ed to be ok (which were around when I first started with MtG). I think 8th to 10th ed are ugly though, there is a difference.
27:00 I have a friend who did the killing opponents with their own Commander thing. He runs a lot of busted blue steal cards like Treachery and Guilded Drake to snatch the scariest Commander on the field. Then he used big pump enchantments like Eldrazi Conscription and beat sticks like Fireshrieker to make it a real big goddamn problem. Definitely a viable option with all the strong equipment and auras they've been printing for the last few years
Charge counters works well in Brudiclad because You can take artifacts that easily charge up on counters like Chimeric Egg, Coretapper, Dragonspark Reactor and similar and then turn them into Darksteel Reactor (e.g. sacrifice 10 Myr Coretapper tokens and put 20 counters on Reactor in theory 30 because they have haste and can tap too so 6-7 is enough). Turning them all into Empowered Autogenerators will give you lots of mana. Some Charge Counter artifacts also create more tokens like Golem Foundry. Lightning Coils allow you to tap all core tappers to make as many 3/1 tokens during your upkeep. Sure they get exiled but you can turn those (at least 5) token into more Coretappers and tap and sacrifice them to get 15 charge counters distributed among your other cards including the Lightning Coils. You can basicly tripple the amount of tokens you get next turn and the 3/1 can trigger etbs. Or put the counters on Orochi Hatchery and transform those tokens into Coretappers. Another way to transform a card that is easily charged into another that has a good payoff is Saheeli Sublime Artificer. Drop Darksteel Reactor and turn your artifact with 20 counters into a copy
A lot of sweet ideas here. No wonder your channel is so popular! I have two ideas that might deserve the Demo treatment. The first is “do-nothing” enchantment tribal. No creature auras, but maybe land auras for ramp if you want the enchantress feel. Mine is led by Marath, Will of the Wild, but I would love to see your take. The other is attempting to win with Happily Ever After in as few colors as possible-maybe 2 colors, or even mono-white. I will be trying out the anthem-based Voltron strategy. I like how you think! You hit on a few ideas I had already started building decks around. Now I will motivate myself to try to finish them. I was trying the forced search theme around Ob Nixilis as secret commander, adding green to force my opponents to ramp. Also building a Bant graveyard deck with the switching commanders idea, since they all work around the same topic :)
For Maximum Commanders, I have a Boros equipment deck that only plays Boros equipment commanders as creatures, and it's gotten to the point that I have to make cuts everytime a new one is printed because there are so many
I've recently done an interesting brew. I built Prossh, a deck that's usually built like an aristocrats deck because the commander lets you win pretty well with that strategy. I made it into a go wide tokens deck with basically 0 aristocrats payoffs. It is a super interesting brew, I haven't had the chance to play it yet but I'm waiting for it in the mail
congrats on 50k. I've been working on a EDH taken on modern's Agatha's soul cauldron deck using Ich-Tekik and Keskit. I havent got it totally smoothed out but its feels really unique. I'd be curious to see your take on it.
Hey Demo! Haven't watched your channel in a while but this was a great place to jump back in. I wanted to shoutout a keyword that I think gets overlooked a lot, Soulbound. For the unaware a creature with soulbound can become "bond" to another creature when either enters the battlefield, then they gain grant their abilities to the creature they are bound with. Dead-Eye Navigator is the most infamous but you can also pick up basically any of the common keywords you might need like Hexproof, Double-Strike, Trample and Deathtouch, depending on what colors your in Speaking of colors, I am trying an idea I read on EDHrec a long time ago using Dakkon Blackblade at the head of a Shadow-tribal deck. I'm running Scion of Draco so Dakkon can hit the battlefield and automatically have Vigilance, Hexproof and Lifelink. Grant him some Shadow until end of turn as well and I think we'll be making some real trouble for people, hehehe
For your #2 I'd try to go with Partner commanders to double up on the background bonuses. BTW, this is the first video RU-vid has put in my feed from you in a while. I'm subscribed with notifications on still.
Some really nice Ideas you got there. At the maximum commanders idead I thought about my Tezzeret Commander deck. Which is basically a Sygg, River Cutthroat as Commander with all Tezzerets in there. The whole theme is just to have as many artifacts as possible since most Tezzerets use those in numbers. Also at the 10th point my Valduk deck came to mind with the "secret commander" of bludgeon brawl and a bunch of tokens to use as equipments with. About your explanations about Yavimaya and Urborg: What about a Orvar-Domain deck? You can put both special lands in any colored decks. With Orvar you can copy those and blue gives enough possibilities to change the basic types. I fiddled a little with that (an the locust-lands) but buried the idea after a friend announced he will build an orvar deck.
Hi Dave, first of , thx for all what you share to us ;) i guess its hard to find new ideas...Probably this one you already know, but i can suggest you Callous Oppressor (it looks like to me a fun one to test ;) )
So I have a 5-color "partner with" deck. It's a fun deck to goldfish and all, but it needs a pretty major overhaul because it runs into all sorts of problems in actual games. Tons of "Partner with" in the 99 means a huge demand on your mana, and when you do get a handful of them out there, they usually just sort of sit, because you still have to somehow build up all those +1/+1 counters most of them want so badly. I have a Jodah, the Unifier" in the 99 and a Jegantha lying around unused, so together, they might be the commander swap I end up with to have the mana, deck engine, and brute strength the deck needs so badly.
6:03 for super voltron, the new jodah with a backgrounds theme is pretty powerful, plus all those mono color partners from commander legends like kedis, anara, and falthis, as well as bloodsworn steward from c17
For a hidden commander I’m building Ali Baba. It uses Scion of the Ur Dragon, and the whole deck is built around having the only creatures be Miirym Sentinel Wyrm and Ali Baba and turning him into a dragon to win with massive amounts of copies of Ali Baba
The Super Voltron idea I think its great. When the backgrounds came out, I though about a Tuvasa with a bunch of them and only non-aura enchantments, like you said, and in those colors you can use blink effects to protect against removal, board wipe and even sacrifice wich generally is the weakness of voltron strategies.
My current "wild idea" project is Temur Alchemy using Bjorna//Elmar. Essentially the goal is to create a plethora of clue/food/treasure tokens and burn them to use towards other spells. It plays like a Vancian magic system honestly. Just a bunch of cheap easy-to-cast spells which make tokens and dash in a few storm spells, big X spells, and artifact sac outlets. After this I'm going to redesign my "Greater Mimic" Volrath deck (in which case I am playing predominantly copy/shapeshifter creatures to steal or copy opponent's creatures while combining it with Volrath's hilarious shapeshifting on the stack. Next is Obeka "High Chronos" deck where I utilize Obeka as a premier time magician and fill the board with suspend effects and a few "end of turn" shenanigans and hard "time magic" spells like Discontinuity. Maybe sneaking in a few extra turn spells as well (especially the strong ones that would cause me to lose the game otherwise) to represent that 'time magic" feel. I don't like playing too much on mechanic alone, that's boring. Oh so you played your _insert combo card X_ with _nameless combo card Y_ again? Oohh ahh. There's no soul, no character, no heart. It makes me so sad.
I recently built a deck with Rukarumel as the commander. It was a horse tribal deck. I didn't just use horse creatures. EVERY non land card had a horse/unicorn/pegasus in the image. it wasn't very good, but i had some fun with it.
I have a Kediss and Keleth deck like your first idea. Anthems, backgrounds, and other things that give buffs to my commanders or my creatures in general. It's a VERY effective deck, due to the commanders buffing themselves and spreading the damage around, but it is also a lot of fun to play. I can't call it voltron, though. My opponents are usually dead before commander damage would kill them..
My New unique deck: Braids, arisen of Nightmare Enchantress The full power of Black enchantments like demonic pact, doomwake giant, treacherous bleeding and win cons like tergrid or grave betrayal make this deck so super fun (:
I like the maximum commanders deck idea...I kinda did something similar, but different. In the same vein.. I built a 150 card jodah deck. The deck consists of lands, artifacts and enchants...and 50 legendary creatures, randomly chosen by my opponents prior to the start of game. It's kinda clunky...takes a whole bundle box for a deckbox takes a bit of time to get it reset after a game...but watching people shuffle the 150 and peeling off 50 for my deck brings me joy. That...and the fact that jodah is so op that it really doesn't matter what creatures you got. Lol
I have a deck built around killing someone with their own commander! It's Ardenn and Ludevic , built around Assault Suit, you get your standard voltron set up, lots of aura and equipment, however Ardenn let's you suit up any creature, so you put them on someone else's commander and send it round the table! Duelist's Heritage is a must for that deck!
Try Zevlor, Elture Exile for the forced shuffle/paper cut deck. Not only do you open black for the amazing Sadistic Sacrament, but you can now hit all opponents with those spells for triple value.
I actually did the static voltron thing! I wanted to oneshot with the new 7 mana atraxa, but I also wanted to blink her cuz its insane so it's full of equipment with 0 equip cost, all those static effects, exalted and basically everything else you need for a deck spread evenly among all the card types. You end up with a 12/12 unkillable monster that you can blink to draw like 6-7 cards(on average) and its honestly my favorite deck
I like the “partners with” deck. I suggest running the prismatic bridge as the commander. Every upkeep you will flip a free creature, which will tutor the partner. You can also add multiple upkeeps with the Sphinx and artifact
Idea 7 is kinda close to one of the decks I want to make. It's a group hug deck that turns around and steals all the big stuff you helped the other people get
If anybody is looking for a good Voltron deck with no auras/equipments, I highly recommend The Mimeoplasm! It's a Sultai commander that takes two creatures in your graveyard and staples the power of one on top of the abilities/stats of another. It's really fun and there are tons of interesting ways to build it.
I made a maximum commanders deck out of RG legendaries as a bard song and gods style midrange deck. It is probably one of my best decks that consistently gets played.
i just made a jeskai deck with urborg and yavimaya as my secret commanders. it’s so jank and i have to be super creative on how i can tutor them up. it’s such a funny deck to watch work
I have a deck with the charge counters theme. I started the deck with Atraxa actually, however she just got killed as soon she hit the board so i changed the commander to Vorel of the Hull Clade. If you don't mind counting all the counters - it's a very fun deck, not too powerful but also completely capable of winning as well ^^
I usually call super voltron a superfriends deck that uses emblems to buff your commander. I would consider white tree just a part of legendary tribal of normal voltron. But by your definition I do have a super voltron deck with niv mizzet living guildpack. My two color cards are all the leiges from shadowmoor. Oh also, I have an inverse tribal deck with morophon as the commander, but all the creatures in the decks are lords for different tribes. So I have one creature that buffs goblins and also lord of Atlantis on my field just to buff morophon.
For number 10, I built a Muldrotha deck focused around Mirrorpool and breaking that. A "Secret Commander" that's a land. It's fun but people see Muldrotha and throw a fit regardless.
If you want to go secret commander, and what you want fits in dimir there is this card from dr who: the master reformed that pretty much allows you to make a creature into your commander (a bit complicated to explain). Also you get black tutors as a bonus.
Ive heard the super voltron strategy called "familiars" based on the partner commanders that give your commanders abilities. Have wanted to build this with Rograkh and a two color commander. Not sure who id pair him up with but it seems pretty fun.
Unironically for the non-aura/equipment strategy for Voltron would be to use stickers since they also do not go away when the commander goes to the graveyard or command zone
As sad as it sounds, the CMD I think fits most with that "punish you for searching" deck is Nekusar. Might as well also damage people for drawing cards. Punish for card draw, library search, etc. Doing everything but combat and spell damage. You'd be an instant archnemesis though. I'd load it up with nonsense like Bottomless Pit, Painful Quandry, Oppression, etc
I actually have a super voltron Alela, artful provocator deck. I used background and pump enchantments to boost her and keep tokens as good flying blockers.
I like the idea of challenging the traditional Voltron route, but I already built a Voltron Commander with a unique game plan, just that it does run several equipment for protection and to aid the wincon.
I've had an Akroma, angel of wrath voltron deck without any aura's or equipment. I have cards that give double strike, exalted, and so on to pump her up. The reason I did this was because it's a painters servant deck, hating on black. And since Akroma has pro black, if I make everything black, all the auras and equipment attached to her would be black, and fall off. So it was more out of necessity at first but now I just love that idea of playing my commander after I've played all the cards to pump her up.
So fun thing, my first deck was a scion spawn token spam deck. I used parallel lives and cryptology rite to put out a shitload of mana and such. Then used spawnshire in casual to slap out a box lol
Regarding Super Voltron (no auras/equipment) - I've been putting together a deck like that with Snapdax as commander, in the hopes of mutating it onto Vexilus Praetor. That gives me a 3/5 Double Strike, Vigilance, Protection from Everything commander that can then be pushed further with backgrounds, Bastion Protector, Lieges, Keleth, Astarion's Thirst, etc.
