This video is perfect timing. I just broke 100 yesterday only using my 6i through 56. 6i broke on hole 11 and just T’d off with 7. That combine with toe down chipping, scored a 95! I just started playing in March of this year. Best youtube for golf hands down!
Hi Matt, I returned to golf after a 5 year hiatus and started to follow your break 100&90 series 2 months ago. I have never come to even remotely close breaking 90, but yesterday I scored 82(with a quadro bogey on a card...), smashing my previous record with ridiculous 12 shots. I still can't believe it and my friends thought it was some sort of sorcery. -Short game practice sessions after work -No Driver -Playing to my favourite free throw distances -No 3-putts Absolute money. Thank you so much!
This is the first channel to actually have a positive effect on my game. I started following his tips to change my approach to golf, and today I shot a personal best (87) won my division in our club championship.
I love the caddy banter at 10:00. That's too funny. I do agree with the positive affirmation and not to get into the death spiral of negativity. Wise words.
Matty! My scores are in a free fall and it's due to chasing position and not distance' anymore. No driver, not even a 3w and my best score was yesterday. My golf buddies even becoming true believers in toe-down chipping now. Wadda game, waddaplaya!
I can't wait to play golf again! It's been 15 years since I quit! Golf Sidekick has shown me why I sucked. Born again golfer here. Thank you Golf Sidekick?
This is exactly what I needed. Around six months ago I shot 90 but haven't gotten close to reaching the 80s since then, and have arguably gone backwards. Definitely will be using these tips during my next round in my quest to break 90.
This usually happens because your expectation window changes from an anomaly. But the explanation is mundane On That particular day, all the things needed fell into place with the game you have. But if you track where things are not working: Penalties and why Three putts and why Missing greens short sided and why Then you can create better plans and learn newer better shots that will put you in good positions more often and your good rounds will be lower and worst rounds will be lower.
I was in Paris for Golf olympic tournament. A couple was wearing waddaplaya outfits. 1st time I see it in real life. Matt, what a boss. Keep golfing and vive la France.
One of the most useful channels about golf. I could reduce my score significantly over the last couple of months. Last 4 different courses +12, +15, +16, +12.
HEY MATT. I’ve been watching you since the beginning of the year. I started playing about a year and a half ago. About that time I starting watching your channel. I’ve been using the SwingU app on my phone and have really dove in to the game wholeheartedly. I’ve learned so much from you not the least of which is your overall philosophy of the game and mental approach. I am now at a 8.6 handicap and watched it go down from breaking 100 to breaking 90 and trying to get consistency on breaking 80. I wanted to say thank you and that you have absolutely been the most influential person on my game and attitude towards the game. Rusty North. St. Augustine Florida. Be awesome to play with you brother!
Excellent playa Keep going. Breaking 80 is a difficult one but when the realization hits on how to do it, you’ll find it difficult to stop breaking 80!!
Love that we are back to these vids Chief Playa!! Long time watcher and big supporter. Put these principles to work last night and broke 80 for first time this year! Praises to the Playa for sound actionable advice and wishing low scores to all ❤
Game has been trending nicely since following the way of the playa. Recent scores have been 92, 91, 92, 91 & 89. Played yesterday and shot 84. Amazing feeling. The key was leaving driver at home using 5 wood instead which I am more comfortable hitting. Kept the ball in play all round which led to me smashing 90. Thanks Matt.
I love these videos - the theme in them is always the same - but i need the constant reminder - plus Mattys short game tips (like this video's up hill advice) are always helpful
Another awesome video. I used everything you said in my last round - scored an 84 on a brand new course! I'm close to achieving the way of the playa! (For me - breaking 80 - its close)
HI Matty, A quote from Vision 54, "The present is all there is in golf! There is nothing else! The more you can figure out how to get yourself to the present during a round the better you'll play, love your work great stuff
Wow. This video came just at the right moment. In my last three rounds, i haven't scored worse than a double, last round was 90 even. Thanks for this Baus, just what i needed
Matty, Tip or no tip? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Perfect video at the right time as after playing yesterday and got down to a 94, I was thinking if I could just quit making double bogeys. Perfect timing!
Another great video: big take away for me is you need to practice your short-game outside 10 yards. I started doing 30-50 yard short game warm-up this year and it’s paid huge dividends. Greens were running a little slower today during my warm-up and my chips were not getting to the hole with my 54 wedge. So I decided to use my 50 in situations where I would use my 54. Got me close all day and I had a chip-in birdie.
Another barrier broken playas, just dropped below 20hcp for the first time. Let Matty guide you as this sheisse really does work. Get out of your own way and play your best golf. Time to break 85 for this mother lover.
Should my goal be to lower handicap or break 90? I'm learning how the handicap system gives you a max net double bogey because you can easily get +8 on a bad hole. Debating moving up to 6000-6200 yrd tees (blues) because a 90 from the whites (
I went through this same debate and started playing blue/black tees rather than whites. The focus on lowering my handicap and playing more difficult tees added a bunch of unnecessary stress to my game and the actual effect on my handicap was small. I have recently moved back up to the whites and shifted my focus to developing and setting up free throw distances. My game is much more consistent and handicap is dropping fast. In my experience fundamental and process are the way to consistently drop your handicap, tees are a quick fix that alone aren't going to make you a better golfer.
You should play any tee between 5000 and 6200 yards and focus on hitting enjoyable, well struck shots that you can hit and enjoy hitting. You do not need to push yourself. Just keep stringing together your favorite shots. The score is secondary.
All the evidence you need for how good these videos are is the fact that I play about 10 times a year, half of which are on a par 3 course, and even then I've slashed around 5-6 shots off my score. Very little improvement in my ball striking, it's all about picking the right shot and playing it in a safe way, easy game
Been using your suggestions for a couple of years now. My scores have been between 81 and 93 this summer. On the 81 day I hit 3 fairways, 8 bogeys, 1 double bogey, 1 birdie, 6 one putts, 1 three putt. I have a reliable punch shot, I can get out of the rough with my weed cutter 7 wood and I do not take hero shots. (I was hot, but it didn't feel like it. I just kept focusing on the next shot) I do not tally my score until I get to my car.
As always, loved the video. Your spiel on self-talk is a good one. I tend to call myself a lot of names reminding myself just how bad I suck and that I probably shouldn't be allowed to play golf because of how bad I suck. Start discussing what types of criminal laws should be passed to keep me from teeing off. I'll try to tell myself that I don't suck as bad as my friend Marc now.
Almost set a new half round personal best today, but found myself in the NDS on a hard par 4. Missed left off tee; chunked my 6 iron; missed my 9 iron right, missed the green short with my 56°; chipped my 9iron right passed the hole; 2-putt..😢 Stuck with the gameplan though and scored pars on the next two holes. Finished with a 42 (+7 on a 9 hole course). Next time 🏌️
Knowing is good... Doing is better. Trying to get more practice in so that there is less chunking on the fairway and short chips and fewer putts rolling 8 feet past the hole.
Reason #7: If someone was telling me that I'm shit at this game, it really wouldn't bother me because it's the truth. "I would be like you're damn right." then laugh some.
Shot an 89 the other day breaking 90 for the first time. Still had a triple and 3 doubles but scrambled for a bunch of pars by just getting in play, getting near the green, and chipping on. It really is all about limiting errors, I think I could easily get down even lower if I clean up the three putts and occasionally topped/thin shot. Interestingly it was on the longest course I’ve ever played so far. Sometimes I feel I play a bit better if I go back a box, wonder why that is, maybe less pressure on getting it super close? not sure
I was on my way to breaking 90 yesterday and then these jack wagons behind us hit into us on the green with my kid there. They could see us plain as day. This was on the 12th hole, I lost it, couldn’t regain my composure until the 18th. It’s crazy how mental golf is.
I am a senior that pick up golf again since I retired 2 years ago....I've recently moved up and hit from the tees that are averaging 5,500 yards ....my drives are straight, but averaging only 180 yards..the rest of my game is solid......do you think I have a chance to break 90?...thanks
This may have been the best golf video I've ever seen. It's all stuff you know in the back of your head, but you get to the course and think you're vintage Tiger. Next round I'm going to watch this beforehand and stick to what he's saying. I know the result will be positive
I recommended chiping around your yard if at all possible. It's great practice for those 10 to 30 yard shots. It also is great practice for just ball contact.
I agree and don’t know why more people don’t do this … I have a elementary school a few miles from my home and it has a huge grassy yard in front of the school and people around the area go hit ball there… I can hit balls up to 300 yards for free
When my buddy gets to the course he takes 5 balls and chips his way to the chipping area from his car. The 2-5 balls should go the same distance as ball one. He then chips for a while in the chipping area and then chips back to his car. He gets all kinds of lies with this warm-up.
Hi my friend! Love your videos, only comment I have since ive watched almost all your videos is that confidential does not mean confident as in a shot you trust. It means something completely different. So when you say confidential shot you should rather be saying a confident shot.
Just started 2 years ago(age 32) was thrilled to be in the 80s my first year but now upset if I’m in the 80s, and now I broke 70 the high 70s are upsetting. It’s never enough with golf just endless pursuit of being better
My game has been consistently better once I stopped chasing distance off the tee. I'll use my 5 wood almost every time now, unless I'm having a good striking day, then ill go with 3 wood on long par 4's or par 5's (I don't play a driver anymore). 210 or 230 in the fairway or first cut beats 250 in the shitter every time
yeah nick, i was the same, after a good streak i thought i was good enough to put the driver back in. soon as i put it back my scores dropped 5 strokes because i end up in the woods and punch out or worse OB!!!
All YT videos on breaking 90/80 just don't understand that Duffs happen all the time for amateurs. Similarly missing 3 footers. And most take up golf after 30s and muscle memory is poor. This game needs constant practice. If due to personal issues, you take a break for months ( covid ), you almost have to start from scratch. And then there are age related issues - yips, flexibility etc. There is no cure for this. Just live with it and enjoy time with your friends and nature.
the guide doesnt change with a duff duffs are not special gifts reserved for the downtrodden just gotta put on the big girl panties and go hit some balls and move on
BRAVO YOU STINKY WINKY...I used your method again today ,and only lost my concentration once on the 18th with a last "hero shot " to the green and I lost my ball... I still shot a 87!
Since most likely we will never play together the next time I'm out. I will say to myself after pausing what would Matty Boom Boom say? He would say hit away from trouble, and hit your most confidential shot!
I had to pause it to go get a coffee when you said "I'm going to be a little harsher talker to you.." I didn't need to hear more, I know you're talking to me. Mr. shot 94 off the tips, 94 off the reds, and 94 off the middle with 3 clubs but never broke 90. Mr. 3 chip. Mr. 185y 7i but still use a driver more often than not just.. because? Mr. damn ANOTHER tree? Mr. See getting out of the sand in 1 shot is ez, if only I didn't card a 6 on a par 3 after being 15 yards off the green on a 220 par3
What makes me depressed is the courses You play are so easy - where I live «into the trees» is a lost ball - not a second shot. «To use driver 65-70 yards broad landing area» - that’s three holes on my course. And You stand on flat ground most of the time - in my dreams !
Matty Boom Boom you forgot the 2 most important factors. 1.) eat a healthy portion of avocado toast the night before. 2.)a healthy deuce before the round.
All of the people giving advice here, quote the Bryson stat, hitting farther for lower scores. I really believe, there are different analytics for 10+ handicappers
I’ve been watching u for years now. I’d say the biggest takeaway I have from you..is play conservative..no hero shots..if trouble left or right off tee..hit something to get in fairway..stay in ur comfort zone, etc
Conservative target assertive Swing Correct That’s how the best in the world play too. They just have more skill. Stay in your capabilities and aim away from trouble. Someone’s the rough is perfect compared to OB on the opposite side. That’s how the best in the world play. We get the delusion that they actually play balls to the wall all out dummy golf.
Yes but practicing just hitting balls is different to practicing Shot shape identification Better targets for the shot shape Tightening dispersion with better technique and strike Landing spots on chips Speed control on putts Identifying the most common 5 distances into greens Purposeful practice > practice
I recently played behind a 4 ball of beginners hitting driver everywhere. I do mean everywhere, their worst tee they hit 9 tee shots between them. You cannot get through to these people of how to get a ball round when their talent is yet to grow. Thye would laugh at us if we suggested playing with nothing more than a 6 iron.
