My third was born via the fetal ejection reflex, it was wild. Went from 6-10 cm in less than 10 minutes and then he came right out onto the hospital bed! I’m so thankful for the amazing nurses in the room because there was no doctor there yet! The most intense moment of my life for sure.
@beth90

Thank you for mentioning the FER! It happened to me during my unmedicated water birth! I desired a physiological birth experience, which my midwife very much supported and encouraged, and together we made sure the environment around me was calm and peaceful and as relaxing as possible. My midwife was monitoring me and obviously making sure my baby and I were safe, but she trusted my body and took a relatively hands-off approach. When I asked how I would know when it was time to push (she only did 2 cervical checks in my 16 hr labor as she didn’t feel that frequent exams were necessary or particularly informative during my healthy, uncomplicated labor) she said “oh you’ll know! your body will tell you!” And sure enough my daughter was spontaneously born without a single voluntary push from me! And what’s even cooler was that once I felt the baby start coming I instinctively flipped over in the pool so I was leaning forward over the side, kind of in a hands & knees type position. Nobody told me to, I just did it. Without even consciously thinking about it. I expressed to my midwife afterwards how crazy I thought it was that my body just knew what to do, and she smiled and nodded and said “and so, along with your baby, a whole new level of trust and belief in your own self is born” 😊❤️ Such an amazingly empowering experience!! Aaaaaand then later when I mentioned that I experienced the FER to my husband’s cousin who is a l&d nurse, she cringed and said that the physicians at her hospital fear the fetal ejection reflex and don’t like it to happen 🤷🏼‍♀️ She then she said my midwife was being irresponsible and should have assumed more control of the situation because “when a woman is left to birth without assistance that’s when bad things happen” 🙄 I had a highly trained and skilled medical professional RIGHT beside me monitoring the whole thing! I was NOT birthing “unassisted”. No, she didn’t have her hands in my vagina the entire time, but everyone in the room simply trusted my body and allowed it to work the way it was meant to! I don’t have a single thing against doctors and nurses, and in fact have SO much love and respect for them. But this whole “a woman’s body is not to be trusted, birth is dangerous, medical interventions for all!” thing makes me so upset and discouraged 😞
@beth90
@beth90 4 года назад
Oh and my husband’s cousin was NOT supportive of the fact I gave birth in water, and was also appalled that my midwife “let me” deliver in a flipped over position like that. Her hospital policy is (or was, at least, 2.5 years ago) that women are “allowed” to push in different positions until crowning and then are made to lay on their backs to fully deliver.
@Nurse_zabe

I think your birth sounds beautiful and more importantly, profound and perfect for YOU! Doctors and midwives catch babies. Mothers give birth to them. I’m sorry she tried to make you feel bad about your birth. I love that your midwife educated, supported and empowered you. That’s what birth is all about. The birth of two new people. 💗

I totally experienced the fetal injection reflex (I didn't know it had a name, thought it was just a regular part of labor). My body just pushed the baby all the way to crowning without me doing ANYTHING! I was told by the nurses and doula not to push, cause we were waiting for the doctor to rush in, and so I mentally fought the urge and would hold my breath to keep things tense so as to not let the urge be fully effective, but now I wish I had just stayed relaxed and had my husband catch the baby. I had a grumpy doctor come in and she gloved-up, and told me to put my knees up to my chin and push the baby out with my first push! Against my better judgement, I listened to her, and got a 3rd degree tear😭 The recovery was really difficult 😢

Just had my 1st baby 6 weeks ago. Went into spontaneous labor at 37w2d. Progressed super quickly... my baby was almost born en caul!! Water didn’t break till she was crowning. My doc was amazing and let baby naturally come down once I hit 10cm. (I was complete for a couple hours before pushing). Super cool to let the fetal ejection reflex do its thing! So glad I had an amazing doctor who let my body do things naturally instead of heavy medical intervention 💗 I wish more doctors let women listen to their bodies!!

When my mum was pregnant with me, she went past 43 weeks!! Oddly enough, her entire labour process was less than 1hr long though 🤔 Apparently she was screaming at the nurse for pain relief, the nurse took one look at her pelvis and said that there was no time for that, she needed to push!! That’s so sweet you brought oxytocin increasing exercises into this video! In a RU-vid appropriate way. Birth and sex both make oxytocin, uncomfortable fact because nobody likes thinking about babies being there for sex. However they can’t be separated, the birth is kind of the end of the sex act you had 40 weeks before. I cried watching this. Covid is kind of getting in the way of my “oxytocin increasing exercises” and TTC

For shivers you can also do a flat press with your thumb between the eyebrows. A couple of deep breaths by the mama, and the shivers are greatly reduced. I often teach this trick to support persons and mom will ask them to do it as they like for comfort. It's also great when I need to get an accurate blood pressure.

Thank you! I didn’t know there was a term “fetal ejection”. I always just called it a primal urge. My first was an emergency C-section and I never experienced labor but with my two VBACs when the urge to push hit it was totally primal. Both times I pushed twice and the baby was out. Both times the nurses didn’t believe I was in transition until they checked and the head was crowning and both time the doctor barley sat down before the baby was out. Thank you for teaching me several things in this video.I’ve been a Doula for about 18 years and still have so much to learn.

I recently gave birth on March 7th. It was my fifth baby and the first time I was able to do it without pitocin. Instead my nurse had the Dr break my water at 6 cm. Right after I went to the toilet and peed and upon getting up I immediately started having contractions back to back. 30 mins after breaking my water I went from a 6 to a 9 and maybe 20 mins after that baby was born. The urge to push is a struggle. I was waiting on the Dr to get to my room and my body literally just started pushing the baby out and I couldn’t control it. My water broke with my first on its own. All my others I needed my water broken by the Dr.

Hi friend! Nice to “see”you at such crazy times. Relaxes me to listen to you/learn. Baby 3 is 6 weeks old so we are staying home 24/7. Definitely feels good to laugh about the purple butt line aka PBL 😂 wish I knew!! I would have looked for it during my labor 😂 I had the shakes with baby 1&2 but not baby 3. You’re editing is getting fab and you look beautiful. ...(can you tell I’ve been home for days and days and days alone with 3 kids?)

I was told that pregnancy normally lasts between 9-10months which makes sense because if your last period was the end of the month and you get pregnant around the end of the next month they count it from your last period so even though you might of not been pregnant during that month well just under a month it is still counted that's pretty crazy

Hospitals make me so anxious as the only time I am in a hospital was visiting sick family or when I am sick so definitely going to plan on having a home birth if possible to release all the oxytocin, obviously with the guidance of a doula and midwife and talking to my OB.

I just gave birth to my first child on march 13th, I'm curious if you could touch on the topic of why some women don't dilate at all? After 26.5 hours of grueling labor i had to have a c-section because i never made it past 1cm.

I tell my patients sometimes when the body is working really hard decides it can only do one process at a time, and the one it can end immediately is digestion. Don't consume anything you don't want to taste again, and if you throw up, throwing up is involuntary pushing. Pay attention to the way your muscles contract while you're throwing up and try to mimic that when it's time to push.

It's a whole different vibe watching this video 4 months postpartum! I understand what you're explaining much more. My baby is the 5% born on his due date! I threw up explosively the night before I was admitted to L&D. I think the babies born in their sac is cool too!

Love your videos. I’m on my fourth pregnancy, this time with twins, and can attest to the throwing up, seriously it helps so much. I know I throw up, it will be time to push within the next 5-10 minutes. Also with my third my water never did break so he was born in his water. It looked pretty cool. I just wish more nurses would listen to mom’s in labor because it is so aggravating when they tell you not to push when it feels like you have zero control over it and the person supposed to be delivering stepped out of the room for a minute.

So awesome to know fetal ejection reflex. That is what my body does! My second came 10 minutes after I actually felt my contractions and my third wasn’t much longer. By the time I told the nurses I felt the need to push, they looked and her head was right there.

😊👍 I have three girls and am 37 weeks pregnant with my first boy. Both of my youngest two girls came very quickly. I only pushed my second girl once and she came out "flying" and my youngest girl, I didn't have to push at all. She birthed herself on the bed and it made all of the nurses rush in. 👶

I had the fetal ejection reflex with my second and it was amazing. It was such a relief as I was having a difficult time. And then as soon as that unstoppable urge cane. I no longer felt the contractions. Baby just came.
