"And you will never have to do that contraction ever again, and you will be one contraction closer to meeting your baby." Ohhhh💓💓 I love you for saying that, Nurse Zabe. It made me all giddy. ☺️
@@celesterodriguez1778 it's the most valid point I have heard in birthing 😂 I imagined the emergence of the baby's head and it made me want to cry lol.
It's not like any other pain you'll ever experience in life. Pain is normally the signal to your brain that you are injured in some way, and thus tends to trigger the fight or flight response. This can cause you to tense up during contractions. Tensing up those muscles can fight the work that the contractions are trying to do. You have to try to avoid the fight or flight response, to avoid tensing up during contractions. This set my entire frame of mind with my subsequent 3 babies. To avoid tensing up, low, guttural groaning prevents you from being ABLE to tense your pelvic muscles. To keep my brain from reacting, my mantra became "the more it hurts, the closer I am to meeting my baby." And when the time came, "PUSH THROUGH THE PAIN!" Oh. My. God. I wish someone had taught me this before I had my first! From 74 hours and a messed up epidural with my first, to a 9.5hr completely natural labor (never even poked by a single needle!) and water birth with #2, a 2.25hr labor and natural birth barely making it into a birth room at the closest hospital to us according to Google because we knew I wouldn't make it to the planned hospital 1.5hrs away with #3, and 57 minutes of natural labor before my 10+ pounder was born while standing after 24 hours of failing at induction of labor with #4. I asked for that induction because I just KNEW that it was going to be lightning fast. That mindset and guttural groaning got me through. I will say i begged for the epidural with #2 and #3, but we learned that if I start asking for the epidural... get ready to catch! 😂
@@Nurse_zabe Baby G arrived on 13th May, at 38+2 weeks, safe and sound, 7lbs 2oz. I can't tell you how helpful all your videos have been to me. We're on day 4 here and have had our share of the usual problems already, but this time round I felt more in control, less chaotic and frightened, and hugely better informed. Thanks again from the UK x x x
Conscious breathing helped me labor with no epidural. it helped make labor enjoyable! There I said it, labor was actually quite enjoyable! I took four deep breaths (for each contraction) with a washcloth and my choice of essential oil. It made the labor fly by and I really focused on the breathing and honestly before I knew it I felt pressure and was at a 10 and ready to push. By the time the epidural crossed my mind I was already at a 10 and in my head I thought "that's it? the transition phase is over?!" LOL. I swear by breathing. If I ever do labor again, breathing and a washcloth with some essential oil over my mouth and nose will be my go to.
I found you while pregnant with my first baby and you helped me ease my mind so so much and feel prepared to give birth in this crazy time. I had an amazing birth with my son who is now 6 weeks old! I still watch every video you put out because this knowledge is so valuable and I’ve fallen in love with your personality! Thank you so much for your help! ❤️
I was in labor for 12 hours today with my son. And your video helped me push through my contractions, and birth my son into the world. Thank you for all your videos, it really calmed me through having a baby during this global pandemic.
Just had my first baby 2 weeks ago. I went completely unmedicated and this video helped soooo much! The nurses said I was a pro at breathing through my contractions. Thank you❤
I'm so happy I found for channel. I'm at week 35 and getting ready for my first baby in the middle of a quarantine and you are teach so we'll and graciously that I'm praying I'll have nurses like you in the delivery room
It’s our natural tendency to tense up to pain. Pain is normally the signal to our body that something isn’t right. But the important thing to remember with the contractions are that they are pain with a purpose. Each one is a step closer to meeting your little one. 💗
@@jjtomlin1453 this is our FIRST baby, a little girl, after a previous loss 😍 we are very excited even though the timing isn't great with the pandemic. We're making the best of it!
I came across this video in 2020 when I had my 2nd baby and this really helped me I had my 3rd baby 2021 also used these tips to help me now 2023 I’m 36 weeks pregnant today and I’m here revisiting this video to prepare for my 4th unmedicated vaginal delivery you’ve helped me so much in each one of my pregnancies 💙💙💙💙
I’m 32 weeks with my first and am young and this is sooo informative and helpful thank you!! I’m most nervous for contractions and I’ll keep this in mind when the time comes! Please make more videos about preparing for labor, unless you already have some and I’ll look for them🤗
I hope this series never ends! A lot of childbirth educators refer to your "toolbox", but they never really say what that consists of. I love how you spell it out. I also hear birth compared to a "marathon" all the time. But imo a marathon is easier to prepare for, at least you can run. You can't practice labor! Listening to these videos builds my confidence in a natural delivery more than any book or class has.
You’re right, you can’t practice labor which definitely makes in more challenging to prepare for. But working on your toolbox can help you best prepare and give you tons of options for when things do start up! 💗
Had my baby almost a year ago, wish I would have found your videos then 😂. I still watch every single upload for any future babies. Thanks for making these ❤️
I can’t thank you enough for your videos overall! The education gave me the power to feel ready to start TTC and now with a 2 month old baby I feel so grateful 😊❤
I watch your channel all the time and I just came across this video thank you so much!!! I'm a FTM in October and there is no birthing classes available where I am because of covid. Thank you so much!!!
your videos are so helpful. I am due in April with my first, and your videos have really supported me in not worrying so much about labor/projecting my own fear about pain on the birthing experience. Thank you!
So I’ve watched your other videos, just because I’m one of those people who doesn’t want to drag things to the hospital if I don’t have to. So I did as you suggested and called the Labor and Delivery department to find out what the hospital provided, couldn’t get an answer. She kept saying I don’t know what your trying to ask. So I gave her an example, about providing the pads after baby is born. She said yes, we provide those. Great, what else does the hospital provide? She says, you have to bring your own clothes. (Yes...didn’t think the hospital was a mall.) I said ok but what is there. She said you have to bring your own car seat, we don’t provide that. (No shit, didn’t say that but thought it.) so I said well I’m not asking what I need to bring, I’m asking about what you provide at the hospital for mother’s. She said well we do have essential stuff. Great, can you tell me what that includes? Her response again was, I don’t understand what you’re asking. So I said I think I got it, thank you have a nice day. Just curious(this is a serious question), is there a way I should be phrasing that question? Am I missing a medical term that I should have said instead?
Just gave birth a couple days ago, just wanted to say how much the information in this video helped me through, what honestly was, the hardest labour I've had of 3.
Thanks Elizabeth for another great video! I really like the way you say to welcome and say goodbye to each contraction, I feel like especially saying goodbye would help you feel like you're one step closer to meeting your baby, like there's not a huge mountain in front of you where you're not making any progress. I'm definitely going to try and remember to do this when the time comes!
Yay another Nurse Zabe video!! I've been watching your videos all day they really help me feel more prepared and less scared for my first birth. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience ❤️ The more 'tools' the better! 😉
I’m not even pregnant but this video is helping me with my stress and anxiety 🤣 Pre-Nursing finals are in full stride.. thanks for the breathing exercises!
Did some practice breathing and my dogs are looking at me like "are you ok mommy?" Lol 🤣. I'm due in 6 weeks, so you are very helpful and positive 🥰✨ also my first baby 👣
Your videos are so nice and informative. And you're so soothing 😊 Also I love "I'm one contraction closer to meeting my baby". Great way to think of it.
To my eyes, this is the best video of breathing techniques. With my first I used breathing and meditation to cope with the pain. But you just gave me the whole toolbox of pain relief in my mind😍🥰🥳 thank you. My second will be here much better prepared and with less fear.
Thank you so much for this video and I can’t wait for the rest of your toolbox series! I’m a newer L&D nurse and so this info will be so helpful for me to support birthing people 😊
I hope they help! I’ve taken a couple of workshops that have been very helpful in supporting laboring women, particularly those laboring without an epidural. Unmedicated deliveries used to feel so overwhelming in the beginning of my nursing career!
Nurse Zabe yeah starting out in l&d things can feel like a lot but I feel like I’m in a good place to be able to use lots of techniques for labor support & coping. Our epidural rate is usually pretty low, 35% last year, so I want to have as much knowledge as I can to help support unmedicated deliveries 😊. We also have doulas that we partner with so if a mom requests one there is always one doula on call which is awesome, unfortunately it’s on hold right now though with COVID19.
I love looking forward to when you post! I dont have a baby yet. But I've been so nervous because I've gotten kidney stones since I was 18 and I'm turning 26th this june 13th. I wanted kids a few years ago honestly but we want a child soon but it just makes me so nervous. But I love how soothing you are I could listen to you all day and all your info! Love ya girl!🥰🥰🥰
These are so useful. It helps me understand and practice different parts of what I’ve been learning about labor in my prenatal yoga classes. Thank you!
I was here 3.5 years ago when I had to "wing" my way through my first baby because of lockdowns and such. Ended up having her at home completely unplanned and this did wonders, so now I'm due with my second I am back for a refresher and to help with the anxiety
Thank you soooooo much for these tips! My daughter is one week today and during 16 hours of labor and 3 hours of pushing she was out! During that time I used controlled breathing, I used your “that contraction is over with, you never have to do that contraction again” over and over. So thank you so much for the guidance and the concentration that I needed. 💕💕
So I just watched parts of this video even though I'm not pregnant right now. 🤣 Because I love your videos and fully intend to be pregnant again! I know I breathed through my contractions giving birth last year because I did it without meds, but I don't remember much of labor... What I DID remember was that low moaning noise. Apparently that's all I remember from labor. 🤣
So glad you posted this! Just past my due date yesterday... going in for an US & NST today. I have my last MW appt on Thursday - hoping baby arrives before then! So nervous :( my baby boy was born 1 day before his due date. This little girl is stubborn LOL. I will definitely practice these breathing techniques 💕 thank you again.
Super informative video I'm due on September with my first daughter... so anxious knowing I have to wear mask during labor and delivery because of the pandemic Maybe a little practice will help Thank you so much Sending love from France. 😘😘😘
Watching this video after 9 months been posted and I'm now 32 weeks of my first pregnancy. I've watch your videos a lot (still watching a few more) and it helps me a lot from preparing a hospital bags, what I'd epidural, everything about normal labor and C-section labor, breathing technic, etc. It helps me a lot especially during this pandemic where the hospital at my country doesn't provide any breathing classes at the moment. Thank you for all the guides ❤️
38w2d with my rainbow baby (first baby was stillborn at 22w5d after PPROM at 19w1d). Finally starting to look forward to Labor after spending most of my pregnancy waiting with baited breath to see if things would be okay. Will definitely keep these breathing tips in mind when the time comes. Unbelievably eager to hear this little one’s first cry.
My dad does panting breath when he's exercising. He picked it up when he was with my mom in lamaze class. Been using it for over 30 years and loves it.
I wish I would have taken a birthing class or watched videos... my contractions were sooo bad and I didn’t know how to breathe through them so I begged for an epidural lol. I got to the hospital at 9 cm and was miserable. I luckily had great labor nurses who helped keep me focused on breathing and distraction, even during pushing 💓💓💓
I didn't do any of this with my first .. And wish I would have .. Might have made it threw alot more lol not to mention how funny u are but so helpful .. Might just re watch this during labor
Thank you so much for these breathing tips. With my first, I took a class and learned all about these breathing techniques and relaxation techniques. They helped so much! With my second I thought “Oh, I’ve done this once before I don’t need to review anything” and the pain was so much worse, because I was out of practice I think. Now I’m expecting twins and wanted to take another class, but quarantine prevented that! So glad I have something to reference in how to breath and relax through the contractions! Thanks again!
My first was medicated and I didn’t feel anything. My second was less than 2 hours and I was so freaked out I wasn’t conscious of much lol. My third will be here in July so I’m doing what I can to prepare for I medicated next time.
I was planning on trying to get pregnant this summer, since me and my husband are finally in a financial situation where we can afford a baby. However I don't know if it's smart becouse of the covid19 situation...... anyways, your videos have helped me alot with all kinds of pregnancy questions and fears so thank you ☺️
I'm due with my first in July and will probably have to wear a mask during labor and delivery due to the pandemic. Any insight on how this could affect my breathing? Are there certain breathing and/or pain management techniques that are easier to do with a mask on? Thanks!
Honestly I’ve been impressed by the strength and resilience of moms during this time breathing and pushing with masks on. It might be helpful to practice a bit at home. At my facility (and this might totally be different at yours) patients and support people are only required to wear a mask if a care provider (nurse or doctor) is present. So our patients enjoy some mask-free time too!
I'm sure I probably did a mix of all of these at some point, but the only "conscious" thing I did during labor was get through it, lol😂 I breathed, moaned, swayed, screamed...but made it through without meds so whatever works for you. I kinda knew it would be like that going in. Also having a good mindset helps too. I told myself there wasn't an alternative so I had to get baby out without medication.
I’m 36 weeks today with my 3rd baby and I’m still getting nervous!! 😬 I’m gonna watch this whole series and soak it in lol I need all the advice I can get right now.
Could you do another video that talks you through this during a contraction? Like no intro etc so that those of us who will be birthing without a partner could just press play at the start of each contraction? I know they all last different amounts of time and it's also important to practice first, but I think it could be helpful 💚
I hope you didn't actually "have to" labor with a mask on. I told my team they'd have to staple it on my face if they expect me - or any laboring mother - to wear a mask. That's absolutely ridiculous. They can take extra measures to protect themselves and the environment. Labor is hard enough.
I was just thinking about this like how to do this the smart way I guess I’m 32 weeks and nervous and scared all that picking up my meditation hopefully that will help
Could you maybe do some research on the makena injections and give us a video? I was doing some research tonight and found some that didn’t make sense to me. I read that it’s been the standard of care for 16 years and now studies are showing that it doesn’t make a difference.
Having extreme anxiety over worrying about how bad it will hurt during labor i go in saturday for another induction cuz i had one yesterday but my cervix wasnt opening butit did soften. And im like panic attacking over that i wont be able to handle it. Im Gunna do the medications but im still terrified over contractions im trying to figure out how to not have anxiety :(
Hello I'm watching like everyyy video you make haha. It is so helpfull, because it is my first pregnancy. But today i heard that my placenta is in front of my belly. I dont know if it is over my opening or not, because I still have to go to my SEO. But is it always so that you have to have a c-section?
If the placenta is covering your cervix, placenta previa, a cesarean birth is required for the safety of mom and baby. An anterior placenta, that is located on the front of the uterus and does not cover the cervix, does not. Hope you get some more information soon!
Hello nurse Zabe and all mamas here!I just delivered big boy and I was thinking on you Zabe during my contractions I used lot of your advices❤shower, partners prrssure on back and I had also gas and was amazing😊 all mamas ya you can do it
Question, have you ever been a nurse to a mama who has had past sexual trauma? If you have what was your experience? I am expecting my first baby in 5 weeks (if he doesn’t decide to come before the due date) but the entirety of my pregnancy I have had severe anxiety with anything to do with going to the doctor, being checked. (Though I trust my doctor and the nurses at the office now. They’ve really been amazing.) but I worry about labor and delivery, that I won’t be listened to or that they will be insensitive. I know (obviously) labor and delivery kinda puts the spotlight on your lady bits but a BIG part of my Birth Preferences is that I do not want males or students present and I need nurses that will respect my privacy and do what they can to protect it, so I can feel safe and comfortable enough to labor and deliver my baby without extreme anxiety. I also added that I would appreciate if they asked permission before checking me or touching me.
First off, I am so, so sorry that you’ve experienced past sexual trauma. I have cared for other mamas with similar experiences. Things they have found helpful (and you might too): having a birth plan stating your preferences (limited exams and only with permission, no male doctors, students etc.), making sure your birth partner will advocate for you and get each new nurse up to speed, laboring in your own comfortable clothes and robe, laboring in the bathroom for extra privacy, pushing with your legs covered by a sheet, pushing in different positions where you feel less exposed (squatting, on your side, with the birthing bar), having an epidural for less sensation, not having an epidural to feel more “in control”. There is no wrong way for you to labor, only what works best for you. Wishing you a calm, supported and respectful birth. 💗💗
I am a professional singer and I'm really worried about damaging my voice during labor. I want to be good a breathing but making the guttural noises is what I'm worried about.
