I really don't understand why Swatting is even a thing. It's not a prank, it is fucking insane. The caller should go to prison no question. Their stupidity got an innocent man killed. It sickens me that they tried to shirk the blame too. Words cannot convey my disgust. The officer in question must be devastated. I can't imagine how the victim's family must feel.

Yeah, it's a pretty juvenile and immature thing to do, not to mention it's potentially deadly. Sort of like eating Tide-Pods... It's just a bad idea in general.

@DatGrunt
@DatGrunt 6 лет назад
The kind of country that takes serious threats...well...seriously? If someone calls and says they have people hostage, the police isn't going to waste time trying to figure out if it's true or not. They're sending in SWAT because if it happens to be real, they just wasted valuable minutes. In any case, the officer might have fucked up.
@bye6651
@bye6651 6 лет назад
Police generally do that type of shit to save lives, not rights. We wouldn't have this problem if people didn't do things, like take hostages. But there should always be positive identification of a threat. Make sure it is a threat, make sure if you shoot someone, they are a/the threat. Cop is definitely at fault.

Jacques Lapierre You want to know the country. Its called America. The retarded system where even though they clearly broke into your house, they have a itchy trigger finger just waiting to shoot you if you move a muscle. Its happened multiple times before.
@ScottAndNumbers
@ScottAndNumbers 6 лет назад
I don't want to get into a huge flame war here, but it isn't the officer's fault. People will kindly point blame on to him/her, especially the family of the deceased, which is entirely understandable, but the police were going off info that someone in the house had a gun and was holding people hostage. They were on edge as they should be because they didn't know it was false information. Police did their job, it just happened to not be needed and sadly someone was killed because of it. Personally, I hope this incident leads to something good. Possibly a lot harsher punishments for swatting.

For #7 the guy is 95% to blame. If you listen to the call he made he essentially told the police that the guy was crazy and trigger happy, just waiting to kill anyone who stops him. The SWAT team had that in mind when swatting, so essentially they thought any wrong move would be him going for a weapon and ready to kill people. When you realize that, you hate the guy more.

4. The exploit is that Since Intel processors use predictions, they run a loop, before it checks if it has to get out of the loop making it faster, since it can already run something, before it's even meant to be run (if it has to get out of the loop it just abandons the code and moves on). One genius taught it would be a good Idea to time that, which made programs, that shouldn't be able to access some things able to access the whole system, the current patch for it just removes this feature.

@OnionKnightRises
@OnionKnightRises 6 лет назад
Agreed. Even if he was successful, whatever the popular game is changes. He could become a pro Overwatch player, but for all we know Overwatch could stop being as popular in a couple years from now, what's popular is incredibly unpredictable. Once that happens, the kid has to find another game he's good at, and not every pro is going to be good enough at every competitive game to make enough money. It's an insanely unpredictable career path that was born from what was once just a hobby, exactly like RU-vid, and you can ask any popular RU-vidr that it wasn't always a consistent job.

Well, in the OWL he now has a contract that earns him good money. As long as he delivers as a player he's in a good place there. Of course its hard to tell if Overwatch can keep its position in e-sports but Blizzard certainly believes in it and supports it and even if Overwatch fails he could still switch to other games. Its a bit risky but he loves it so why not take the risk?

About the Intel chip flaws, meltdown and spectre: A handful of people have been talking about this for nearly 10 years now, but they couldn't bring it the attention in deserved. Google found out about it months ago and told Intel, who decided to release the news just now(for many reasons, mostly bad for the consumers). The CEO of Intel, who knew about the flaw, did some insider trading(strickly illegal) and sold as many of his stocks as he could just before the article came out. Selling high, then planning to buy low when the flaw became public knowledge and Intel's stock dropped, effectively making a shit ton of money.
@TipsyRiver
@TipsyRiver 6 лет назад
Oh and there's a Windows patch for the flaw already, but many people are saying the didn't get it. So if you didn't get the update the apst few days, you should definetely google it and install it yourself.

As far as a father pulling his son out of school to play Overwatch professionally, I'll say this. People DO drop out of school to work, and some of them do well. But usually it's not what they WANTED to do, and usually it doesn't turn out well for them in the end. What if his son doesn't become a really good player, or doesn't win the big prize money? What is he gonna do after he's gotten to the point of not being able to play games for a living anymore, assuming he every really reached that point in the first place? Sadly, most non e-sports jobs require at LEAST a GED to qualify. Well... the good ones. You can probably flip burgers someplace without one. This man needs to put his son back in school, or at least get him home tutoring (again, assuming he's doing well as a 'gamer for profit') as when he inevitably has to stop, he actually has something to fall back on, rather than nowhere to land.

What about the kid that gave the prank caller the wrong address? Don't forget him. He's at fault here as well. I'm not sure if there's a law that covers it, but it's along the lines of identity theft. After all he gave a "seemingly" fake address to a person that was verbally threatening him. He may not have known that the address was real, but the fact remains that he is still part of this equation. Who knows, maybe the next time he does this, he'll give the other person YOUR address. Both should be charged in connection to this travesty.

Hey Falcon, since you asked to know about the security flaws: The security exploits are called Spectre and Meltdown. They take advantage of speculative execution, your CPU guesses what instructions it will most probably have to do and executes some of those most probable ahead of time so your stuff would work faster. In theory someone can work their way back to company's sensitive information based on the executed calculations which were thrown away. Basically Meltdown involves operating system, it breaks the barriers between individual programs and the core of the operating system so one program can access more memory than it should. Spectre breaks barriers between programs so one program can see the memory used by another program. SciShow made a video on that titled „How Meltdown and Spectre Make Your Computer Vulnerable” so that's how I know xD

With the swatting and police officer thing I don't think it was all the officers fault. It was 100% the callers. If there was a real scenario where there is a bomb in a house or something like that and the police go in there on high alert. They say it takes half a second to end a life like that. Think of it like this. If your playing a horror game and your expecting something to jump out at you but don't know when then it does your going to jump. When a police officer is entering a building thinking someone has a gun and could very well end that cops life there heart starts to pump faster, there hands start to sweat. Its just part of the human body, and it don't matter who you are trained or not trained you get on edge. No one can think so fast (like half a second fast) when it comes to stuff like that so that leads to crap like this happening. Its the callers fault for making the call in the first place. As far as the officer was thinking is that he was entering a hostile building someone has a gun/bomb and one move could get him or the hostile killed. I don't think its really the cops fault unless he saw the guy for a long couple seconds then shot. The caller should 100% get a long jail time for this. He basically murdered a random civilian.
@TheArtofInternet
@TheArtofInternet 6 лет назад
Jak Storm you should read the whole story, he shot the guy when he went outside to see what all the noise was ( aka the swat team) he literally did nothing to alarm the police in anyway as he was outside in plain sight, the officer said he saw him reaching for his waist though, but still would you make a killing shot to someone who appeared to be reaching for their waist? With no proof of any sort of weapon or anything.

Mario mario yes and no, it's essentially him just not doing his job correctly. If I was in that situation I'd sure be scared as hell and potentially shoot when I'm not supposed to as well, but also probably miss as I'm crap with guns. The thing is these are people who are trained to act in a tactical and cool mannered way as a team, when facing danger. Does shooting a single individual when he's surrounded and in plain sight sound like a actual reasonable thing a trained swat member should do? I'd personally say no.

I'm sorry but Falcon is talking out of his ass when it comes to the SWATTER story. I watched the body camera footage released from the shooting and it was a tragic accident. The victim came out of his house while the Police Department was clearly setting up a perimeter around the house and securing the angles. He caught the Officers off guard and put his hands up upon being told too but for some tragic reason he dropped his hands bellow his hips. The first shot didn't fire until he, the victim, quickly raised his hands back up. It seems like an insignificant motion in hindsight but there are stacks on stacks of textbook cases in which a individual walks out; raises their hands, and then for some stupid reason drops their hands and opens fires with a gun at their waistband. Hell, there is body camera footage released last week of a teenager who complied with police throughout the bulk of the traffic stop only to suddenly turn and try to shoot an Officer with a gun he had hidden in his waistband. This also doesn't go into the instances of people who have ambushed Officers for no reason. One of the more chilling videos I've ever seen was a man who walks right up to a Cop and says, "Hi." before unloading a clip into the cop for no damn reason. They have a legitimate reason to fear when someone quickly lowers a hand near the waistband and quickly raises it back up. The victim just tragically made that motion in his confusion on what was going on. I'm sure the Cop was devastated after what happened when they realized they shot and killed an innocent for a prank call. However, calling him out and laying all the blame on the Officer when the incident would have never happened had individual 1 never called the SWATTER, and the SWATTER had never called the 911 center claiming to have killed an individual while holding hostages after he had poured gasoline throughout the house with the intent to set it on fire; Then the man would be alive right now. The Swatter and the Sour Loser put the Officer in a high stress situation and someone innocent, not realizing what was going on, came outside and got shot because of their prank. Hell, even RU-vid's Favorite Copyright Attorney Leonard French said the shoot was a tragic accident and no fault could be laid on the cop after he watched the Body Cam footage and listened to the 911 tape. Something I highly suggest you guys do because I'm assured you'll come to the same conclusion.

Okay, I am not even going to read all that. While defending the cop, can you explain why things like this doesn't happen in my country? Why police does not kill people in my country or almost any other western country? Cops shooting innocent people dead is only US problem in the west. This fenomenom doesn't exist in rest of the civilized world so there definitely is something wrong with your cops. Had someone made false accusation of someone else in my country, nobody would have died. Hell, not even once would have been shot.
@washout7595
@washout7595 6 лет назад
First of all, I do address that in my first statement, "Had you bothered to read all that." Secondly, I refuse to believe that this is "solely" a problem in the United States. True, statistics show it happens more here, but if we're going to play the statistics game then we need to look at all the facts. Based on documented residents the United States has a population thirty times larger than that of Europe. Based on a quick search I did to confirm, US has 620+ Million to Europe's 23 Million. As you scale up population density you too then scale up crime and drug related problems of which, I'm ashamed to say, America has a really massive problem right now. With drug related crimes you also see an increase in violence against citizens and Officers. We have also seen in America an increase on assaults of Police Officers. Physical assaults, people attempting to draw firearms on them, and people taking citizens for hostages with various implements. We also have a John Wayne syndrome in the US in which there are a lot of people who think they can aim a gun at Police and not be shot for presenting a clear threat to the Citizens and Officers. As I stated in the first post, "You didn't bother to read." Assaults and crimes against Police Officers are on the rise in the United States. Hell, even where I live we've had people stand in front of our Dispatch center and call out Police officers wanting to fight. People call 911 and tell our Dispatchers, "Send the Cops to my place. They won't come. I'll whip all their asses." but those incidents have more to do with our massive mental health crisis then drugs or the aforementioned John Wayne syndrome. America has problems but our problems stem from ourselves literally shooting ourselves in the foot repeatedly. For example I mentioned early on, "Documented." America's population is most assuredly well beyond 620+ million. I would argue we are more along the lines of 700+ million and as I said earlier the larger the population density the more statistically, mental health issues, drug, and violent crime problems you have. With higher crime the more you can statistically expect Officer involved incidents. You can argue global statistics all you want but you also have to remember that population density plays a major factor and something almost every News agency plays down in order to spread the narrative they want to spread. I'm going to end this by restating what I said in my prior post. Watch the Bodycam footage and listen to the 911 tapes. The SWATTER contacted that Dispatch and said (Paraphrased.), "I have killed my Father. I think he's dead. I have my Mother and Sisters hostage. I've poured gasoline throughout the home. I'm going/may set the house on fire." While the Police were setting up the perimeter around the house believing they had a gunman who had already killed one individual, and statistically if someone has already killed one then they are more likely to fire on police or kill other hostages because "they already crossed that line." The Victim tragically walks out of his house without any porch light so that he was in the dark. He raises his hands above his head, for some tragic reason drops them bellow his waist, and raises them back up in a motion that Law Enforcement is trained to perceive as a quick draw motion, but we now know he was simply putting his hands back up above his head. The Officer not knowing that, being told this was a hostage situation with an armed gunman who had already killed one, took the shot and accidentally killed an innocent victim. The SWATTER and the Kid who contacted the SWATTER are at fault for his Death. The Officer was reacting to a perceived threat presented by the SWATTER. This was a tragedy but taking any blame away from the SWATTER and the other Kid lessens the severity of their part they played and must be punished for to set the precedent that needs to be set in the case for SWATTERs to hopefully deter them from this prank.

Wash Out im pretty sure im the only one who actually bothered to read both of your arguments and i must say you did your research and seem to have more knowledge on this subject than that of the ones who react to this topic purely on impulse and opinion, also i can guarantee that the cops in Europe shoot and kill people because it's in human nature to ensure our own individual survival no matter the cost. We, as humans, kill threats/presumed threats to ourselves and our community because we are programmed to, we may be at the top of the food chain but the top can always fall

The US has a population of 620 million?!!!! And Europe is 23 Million?!!!! Sorry but no no no no! The US population is 323 Million, Europe is 740 million+. I am not comment about the rest of your comment and whether or not I agree, but considering a lot of your argument depends on "population density" (which Europe's population is 5x denser than the US) then you may want to consider a good majority of it.

Probably the weirdest thing in gaming FOR ME was the fact that Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness was listed a PS+ Cross-Buy between PS4 and Vita on Sony’s website, only for gamers to go to the PS Store on the day the Freebies were released and find that the Vita Version was free... but the PS4 version was only discounted. Albeit, they corrected this mistake a couple of days after the fact.

from what I understand from the CPU security issue, that they cache data, and that that cached data was easily accessed. But included in that data were things like passwords and keystrokes you used. But the CPU recalls that cache, which makes the computer faster. locking it down, which is what they intend on doing with the fix, will actually slow down your processor.

I think it's probably because the diamond industry is private. I remember watching long time ago a report and info about this industry. Basicly they mine more than they sell, but keep everythig and only give the market a small amount. High demand and artificially low supply makes them expensive. Plus since nearly the whole industry is owned by a few, there is barely to 0 competition, which again allowes them to set prices they want. Also if I am not mistaken, Hollywood was payed to include diamond rings in movies etc. aka setting a new trend: Diamond rings for marriage! Good marketing I guess, as we see it worked.

@Gameranx About number 4 - its a precedence issue. The flaw in the CPUs is...actually is the primary function of the chip. The chips start trying to figure out the next command in the series of incoming ones. And it was REALLY good at doing that. The exploit allows the hacker/whoever to send fake commands to spoof that function. And the reason the fix slows down computers is because it shuts that function down and/or slows it down to check the incoming functions. That's how my warcraft guildmate explained it, and he is a techie that works in what is basically a data center so... :P gonna believe him.

Hey about #4 the exploit is a huge one that affects all modern processors, cellphones and pc, its called spectre. The other exploit is called meltdown that affects mainly Intel chips spectre takes advantage of speculative execution, basically predictive processing in processors to get access to data a program is not supposed to meltdown has to do with how your computer shares memory around and effectivly "melts" the barrier between the 2 here are a few more videos on the subject ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sNgiYM8e5iE.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I5mRwzVvFGE.html

to be completely frank, neither exploit is a simple task to use. for specter, you spend hours hoping to get a few bits, not bytes but bits, of data. by the time hackers figure out how to effectively use these problems, they will be patched and will have less effect. both Microsoft and apple have implemented fixes in their OS's in the last 6 months since intel informed them for spectre.

Giving away an Xbox is probably a promotional stunt to get people to buy their product.
