Imagine if Beth Phoenix had come along 10 years later. Or better yet, 10 years earlier, in Japan. She was WAAAAAY too good for this era of women's wrestling.
I thought of Cherry the other day and JBL's hilarious line where he said if Cherry swapped her rollerskates for a skateboard then she could be Head of Talent Relations. JBL in 2006 was an awesome commentator.
@@HoV326 John Laurenitis was the head of talent relations and he used to come to the ring on a skateboard. JBL is basically saying that any random idiot could replace Laurenitis
Still is. It's not really something that can ever be recovered from. Would have been devastating for his co-workers to not only lose him but then to find out the horrific nature of what he did. RIP Nancy and Daniel.
2008 was the end of the ruthless agression era :( I got into WWE in late 2007 so I'll always have a soft spot for 2008 as the first full year of me being a wrestling fan.
@@jacksonloram7887 Same, I look back on it very fondly for that reason alone, but objectively there’s still a lot of good throughout the year. It’s just not Attitude Era or early Ruthless Aggression level
@@maxb4210 I'll go as far as to say it was the last good year of WWE. 2009 was only good because of the Punk/Hardy and Taker/HBK feuds but everything else was meh. After 2009 we began the guest host era
Could be my nostalgia glasses but I thought 08 was a pretty decent year, the rise of Jeff Hardy to the main event scene, Jericho vs Michaels feud, Edge vs Undertaker feud, I know the womens division was still at its low point but Beth Phoenix, Melina, Mccool, and Mickie James were highlights. Some really good ppvs like the Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, No Mercy, Unforgiven, and Armageddon
Here are some Batista vs khali Finlay swoggle vs boogymens Triple h vs jeff hardy(cause of the ending) Khali vs hornswoggle Women mania match That's all the matches I got
It's sad to see how Paul Wright went from being so agile with good booking as the Giant in WCW to becoming the Big Slow and being booked terribly in WWE.
Glad I was watching TNA in 2008 and I loved the Mini Royal rumble Match Mini Kane's entrance was pretty hilarious and I loved the Santa's little helpers match at Armageddon 2008 that match is iconic no matter how much people disagree.
I thought 08 was one of thee best years the WWE had in the “PG Era (08-20).” The RR was a classic show , No Way Out was a great B show , Wrestlemania 24 is imo a top 10 Mania , & Summerslam was very good . Edge v Rey / Edge v Taker were two great feuds on smack down , HBK & Y2J was feud of the year , and even Cena & Orton was prime at that point. I personally thought 08 was a very good year for WWE .
I take exception to the comments around the lines that Jillian Hall was not a strong wrestler. Jillian Hall was an amazing wrestler but like many was not given many opportunities to demonstrate her skills.
Fun times & that's what is missing today. :-/ Who would you have in a Mini wrestler RR? I'd have... Mini Miz Hornswoggle Mini Roman Mini Sami Mini KO Mini LA Knight Mini Bray Mini Cody R Mini Brock Mini American Bad Ass
I still don't understand WHERE they had gotten the mini Kane from?🤔 Still a complete MYSTERY!!! I miss Hornswoggle; along with mini Kane was ABSOLUTELY hilarious. Where & when did the WWE acquire the cameo stand-in "extra"?🤔🔥😂🥇😂🏆😂👍🏾💰👍🏾💯
Honky Tonk Man vs. Santino had to be a screwy joke match because it was the best way to do the match. Honky's whole gimmick was being an irritating coward who held the IC title hostage by exploiting DQ's & Countouts, then you have the fact he was older and couldn't go very long without showing his limitations so having him get screwed protected him while also doing the idea of being cowardly heels justice
Nah the little people rumble was so good. That was the one time we got to see hornswoggle fight ppl his size (in wwe Ik he wrestles for real now) that and the wee L C match were honestly really good giving the little people the spot light for a bit
@@jasonours6957 dude you really should. Little man’s got a lot of talent he faces tall ppl but he’s not a punch line for the matches. He actually puts on some good matches
Ughhh, I remember the women matches during this time. They were awful. Beth and Nattie were about the only 2 bright spots. I LOATHED KellyKelly and her lame a## screams. So, glad ladies wrestling has had a resurgence. At 45, I can remember what there was of ladies wrestling of the 80's, it was at least quality. They put on some good matches.
“It bares repeating but it shows how little respect WWE has towards its female performers.” Bruh they literally hosed Big Show down with a truck filled with shit.
@@SchmergDergen i wonder if channels like these meet fans in any way cause that would be my one question. “ why all the hate on how womens wrestling used to be”
If the Elimination Chamber has proven anything, Beth was in the right place at the worst time. A wrestler of her caliber could've instrumental in getting women's wrestling back to prominence. Sadly, she was around during the "I'm a perverted old man" phase of Vince's life. Hearing Adam comment about how all six men commented on the women themselves and not the wrestler pretty much told the story. Coincidentally, this is was at the time I effectively tuned out of watching the WWE. It was so rubbish that it wasn't worth it anymore.
I have been watching wrestling since the 70s, those matches weren't so bad in retrospect. I get it you feel bad for the ladies, but what your missing is 80% + of wrestling fans are male and we enjoy looking at good looking ladies unless you prefer dudes personal calls there. As for the mini rumble that was epic. I think I am going to stick to Simon.
I loved the mini royal rumble I thought it was a fun match for what it was with it not being serious except the great khali part I didn’t like that part
Sometimes I feel we drag Cena way more than he deserves, especially to satisfy the marks. But literally 2008 was a year in which he wasn't even in the main event spot and y'all are still bitching? He came back, lost all title matches, went on to feud with JBL and team up with Cryme Tyme, feuded with Batista, and only really got annoying when he got a title shot in Survivor Series. Otherwise he was nowhere near as present in the main event scene
Any match involving Triple H is a shoe in for these "Worst Matches of X" lists. He's probably the most boring wrestler ever to be pushed to the main event level.
After that years summerslam with both the intercontinental and women’s championship I really didn’t Beth should have won that match. I kind of clicked out after that match. Wasn’t the worst match but I just wasn’t feeling that result.
@@RU-vidr754-e9w TNA was actually better than WWE at this point in time until 2010 when Hogan and Bischoff were signed. Impact was never the same again even though the quality has gone up since then.
My gosh what utter garbage the womens division in WWE was until like 2015, constant non stop 2/3 minute matches even in PAY PER VIEWS! It was the definition of a toilet break which is such a massive shame to some of the women like Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, AJ Lee, Paige, Michelle McCool, Natalya etc. Also 2008 is when WWE started to become very very PG and cartoonish and cringey for the next like 4-ish years.
This guy seems to think that majority of folks are actually interested in women's wrestling. I skipped past all that crap back then in 2008 and I continue to skip past all of it now in the year 2023.
#10 - So for once, Jeff wasn't *actually* found unconscious in his hotel room due to his drug use. I guess the WWE wanted to give the fans an excuse that would _10000%_ believable. (Also please stop parroting that nonsense about 2008. In 2002, the economy hit the toilet. We all know why. Everyone too afraid to admit it. Things got a bit better but then got worse in 2008. Not as though there were booming economic times before that year.)
