I had fun reminiscing my time well spent in these schools for which I have so much to be thankful...
I wouldn't want to exchange my experience in these schools for anything else.

Singapore has an education system that has many different paths for a young child to take. It is a “luxury “ compared to most countries but still affordable for her citizens. The problem is that some parents just have a mindset that their children must be a lawyer, doctor, engineer, accountant and nothing else. And the very same parents who think only branded schools and tuition and more tuition. Then the same parents blame the system. But they forgot they are part of the system too.

CoCo is an impressive young lady, clear-minded, objective and eloquent. We must commend your parents, they did a good job bringing you up so well. We respect your decision to move on to study in an overseas school in July instead of completing your IB in SOTA. With your positive attitude and drive, you will be successful whichever path you take. We wish you the very best for your future, and hope your family can become Singapore citizens.❤❤😊

Such an eloquent and well mannered young lady. Your parents made the right decision and most importantly, you have adapted and benefited from the style of education in terms of understanding responsibility and empathy. You will do well wherever you choose to further your studies. All the best to your future endeavors.

As an adult who barely survived our own education system, I'm still glad I went thru it. Some teachers & the system was really good in building my foundation for certain subjects and some not really. It's refreshing to hear the perspective from a foreigner about our own education system. All the best for your new school and thank you for being a part of Singapore.

As an adult, i can't help but think how mature you are for your age compared to back then when i was 16. Being so introspective, so mindful and aware of the values that you picked up and holding such intellectual and deep discussion with great confidence was not something i would have done when i was 16. And to top it up, taking ownership of your own learning journey and not wanting to conform to the majority mindset and limitations set in Singapore schools and choosing to venture out at this age. I am truly impressed and believe you have a wonderful future ahead of you! Thank you for doing this video and looking forward to see how your journey progress in time to come~

its life experiences that makes one mature, sgreans are way too sheltered for that. even 21yos can be more immature than her thinking wise
@darrenc2370
@darrenc2370 11 месяцев назад
@@renderz8435 it is no doubt life experiences makes one mature. But for the case of Coco, she has been in Singapore for most of her life, making her life no much different as any sgreans' life. So you might want to elaborate your point about this 'too sheltered' and how does it not affect her who is pretty much living a sgprean life.

as a singaporean who is currently studying in polytechnic, i really agree with what u said on completing projects for the sake of completion. so obviously already went thru psle and o'lvls, which was indeed stressful periods of time for people taking it, but many enjoyed their school life (esp friends) and i hope you did too. i chose a science course in poly, which piqued my interest initially, but now im so done with the continuous assignments that i feel burnt out. im glad that u made such a decision for yourself and hope all the best for ur future endeavours!

You know you are brought up in the educational system in Singapore when you list in pros and cons 😊. It helps make better decisions in life, and even when you question that decision later, you will know at that point in life, you know what you wanted. Good luck in your new school. I'm sure you will excel in your new environment because you seem so thoughtful and appreciative. When you have trained since young to take lots of pressure , you will find out that alot of things in life are manageable. The stress of life never goes away (that's the meaning of life) but you will know how to break it down and manage it.

Excellent presentation by a 15/16 yo. I am particularly impressed by your experience when learning about the Japanese Occupation in the local school. I have worked with the Americans and Japanese for many years, and I congratulate you for attaining such a good balance of creativity (of the former) and discipline (of the latter). Maybe that's what the Singaporean education (i.e. SOTA) is good for. Keep up the good work and wish you all the best for your further studies.

My daughter was one of the first batch of students from SOTA and I can relate how she, like you, struggled through her six years there. I bet your parents made the right choice sending you to a local primary school and that you have no regret about it. Through sheer determination in her final year at SOTA, my daughter managed a decent result for her IB Examination and get a place in NUS. Now she has a good stable job and is independent and confident of herself. Overall, I think SOTA is a very good school that hone your interest in arts as well as giving you an alternative for academic excellence. I am surprised that you made the decision to quit SOTA for an overseas school but I am sure you must have a good reason for doing so. Anyway, I subscribe to your channel, wishing you all the best and looking forward to more updates on your progress and future endeavours. Congratulations to your 200 subscribers, cheers!

Thank you for your well wishes!! Yes! Like I mentioned numerous times in this video, SOTA is a good school and there's so many things I gained from my time there :) And that is the reason why I still do feel a little hesitant in my decision to quit SOTA for an overseas school. Nevertheless, I will do my absolute best and make no regrets!!

I went to arts stream in a top school in SG (not SOTA). There are people I know who transferred out of the SG education system because it wasn't a good fit for them who are now doing really well in life. I am happy to hear that your daughter came out on the other side but that doesn't need to be everyone's journey. Ultimately from a career/results POV, it matters very little where you go to school or uni. What's important is that you enjoy your formative years and the experiences you have during it. You won't get your child & teen years back once you become an adult. From that perspective, I think @cocolelele is making the right decision.
@veekwok5611
@veekwok5611 11 месяцев назад
@@atatur123 I can see where you are coming from because my daughter had the same attitude during her teenage formative years. Maybe I am talking as a parent coming from an average income family. I must emphasized that I am not discouraging anyone who wish to study overseas especially if their parents could afford it. I am just somewhat surprised because Coco is already in her fourth year in SOTA and could have put in some efforts (I know it is stressful) for another 2 years and then study in an overseas university but I am sure she knows what is right for her. There is no doubt that there are pros of studying overseas. My daughter was lucky enough to successfully applied for the NUS Global Internship Programme and was able to enjoy working and studying in Shanghai for one full year. To her, that was the best experience and most enjoyable and fruitful time she had during her school years and had given her a head start when she graduated from NUS. Of course there are people who take different paths and are happy and successful. Even though I said SOTA is a good school, it is also true that some are not as successful and happy after they have graduated from their chosen overseas universities, especially if they pursued their passion in arts. Somehow, whether is it visual art, dance, music or theatre, Singapore just does not have good opportunities for these talented graduates.

Hi, Singaporean here. Just wanted to say that this video shows how you're a very articulate and insightful young lady, which is in itself a proof of the effects of the Singapore education system, as well as a huge credit to you for sticking through with it for these 10 years and reaping its rewards. Having said that, I also agree that when you realise why the system isn't right for you and open yourself up to better opportunities elsewhere, it can also be really beneficial and mind-broadening. Good on you for being so honest with yourself and knowing what's best for you. Wishing you all the very best in your next chapter in life! 💪

Hey Coco, thank you for sharing! I think you did a very good job! And was very well balanced despite studying in a heavily academic based singapore system. I agree with you that Singapore provides good foundation in education, but when it comes to higher learnings, creativity and innovation which is crucial for excellence, becomes limited because of its doctrinal system. It becomes a chore to study than fun to learning. It's never an easy decision to change paths while walking on familiar ones, as it takes a lot of courage and determination. Wish you all the best in your future learnings. You will do good!

Very eloquent analytical and mature . You sure are talented and have a bright future. Do remember Singapore and your childhood experiences. No place is ideal and has no problems or challenges of its own. We all try to adapt and overcome them..

Best of luck in your mission to find yourself, Coco. When you have found what it is you want in life, just remember that you do have the option of returning home to Singapore, or heading out there to take on the world. The choice is clearly yours, and I wish you well for the choice you choose to make.

Great job, Koko, you have done well in Singapore. You are so blessed to having supporting parents. Good to experience international school, go for it. As a Singaporean, I believe international schools are not so rigid and hope you gain a lot from it. Cheering for you. Btw, glad to hear the Singapore Pledge at the end ❤❤❤
