Dear Friends,Please don't let dogs eat grapes, their system cannot handle them and fermentation takes place in their bodies and shut their kidneys down. I didn't believe it either, but it is true. Please take care of yourselves and congratulations on 100 wonderful videos. Thank you so much.
It's really interesting and great to hear Julie speaking Portuguese. It must be a great feeling starting to connect with the community on all levels including verbally.
I've discovered this series through the recommended "Year one" and "Year two" videos, both were super interesting, great summary of all the progress being made. At first I thought that I'd only stick for few more episodes. Well, it's episode 100 and I'm still here, and I haven't missed a single episode since :D
Great video! Just as a heads up, the foam insulation will shrink over time so your floor will start to bow without supports in the floor. People walking on that foam will break it down quickly. Having the insulation between the gaps in a subfloor alleviates this issue. Hopefully this doesn't cause issues for you all down the line!
This foam is old, it has already shrunk (if it was going to shrink at all, that is very dependent on the specific type of foam). If people were walking on it directly, I agree it would crush, but with the plywood spreading the load it would take 6-8 people standing on one board to exert a pressure equivalent to poking your fingertip into the foam as hard as you can. I think the floor will last longer than other parts of this trailer 😂
This is my favorite video yet! It shows a cohesive and cooperative Group working together for their common goals and helping their neighbors with grape harvest. Best of all they celebrated together. Congratulations on your 100th posting. 🎉❤💯
As a Portuguese that's left the country a few years ago, I love seeing these videos. Moments like the one at Antonio's place make me tear up with saudade :)
You could invite people that teach english in portugal an ask them to do the opposite and teach everyone some portguese. I love how you got to be part of the community. We need groups like you showing that we can live in harmony with nature, with local cultures and with each other! I love everthing about your projects. Once i become a millionaire i will help you restore portugal! Vinho é Portugal!
It's a great local community, and seeing everyone having a go at helping out is great to see. The modern world has its strengths, but at times, those hints of the old ways show what the world has lost to gain that progress. I'm very pleased that the mighty algorithm chose to show me your world. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
awesome job! With a digester that size I'm going to guess if optimal conditions are met you should be getting a couple hours of cooking gas a day out of that which is huge! Massive upgrade to the camp, and it was REALLY cool to see Fabio and the amazing work he's doing as well!
Been here since the beginning. Technically even way before during PP when the idea first came to mind. I really liked the idea of building a self sufficient sustainable community somewhere on a land and have enjoyed the journey a lot. What I have learned form viewing is, that it's not as shiny as one might dream it up, it's a lot of dirty work (of which we only see parts or timelapses) and not as idealisticly possible as one might imagine. Still, I love what you're doing and hope you will continue doing so. :) Keep it up!
I enjoyed seeing the abundance of the ripe grapes, and the wine making as well. The biodigesting process is quite interesting. Nice work on the trailer. Congratulations on the big 100th!!
Welcome to the team Ingrid! One of the best part of the project is helping the community around you, so you can enjoy some marvellous organic food and wine ❤
Awwww 🩷😍😍😍 First of all, Congratulations on your 100th episode! Can't wait to see the progress of the new home. I'm very happy to have seen a fellow paulista helping you all in such a nice project, the bio-gas producer! It was lovely to see all of you helping the neighbors, picking grapes and then having a beautiful and heartwarming celebration! One of the things I like a lot about all of you is that you are always helping your neighbors, that is the beautiful spirit of community ❤️ All the best
Congratulations on your 100th video! It was so exciting to see you making your first bio-digestor. Great to see you diligently using the vacuum nozzle to capture all the little bits of plastic drilling waste so it doesn't go into the environment.. The pig trailer is transformed - as usual, everything you all do is with great attention to detail. Beautiful to see the results of all your hard work. I smiled right along with you as you celebrated the end of the grape harvest. Great neighbours - communal living at its' best.
Your good relations to the neighbours are such an important part of the whole project. So nice to see you're having a good impact on the community! And a very rewarding at that judging by the local wine!
Congratz on the 100th video. I love the diversity of topics, the people, the pace and the atmosphere. Every monday after I get home from my desk job I enjoy watching your videos. It also makes me a bit sad to be at the other end, watching a screen and ironically getting to see commercials of cars, soft drinks and other mass productions. More importantly, your work is inspiring! Keep it up.
Great episode! Make sure to regularly check the digestion system for leaks - you don't want to have methane escaping into the atmosphere: it's a potent GHG.
I just have to say, going to get that insulation from the scrapyard, then laying it down on the floor like that, using the scrap plywood over top, is genius. Many tens of thousands of Americans live in mobile home trailers which would benefit greatly from that kind of floor insulation. It makes me wonder if there are any scrap yards in America as well organized as the one you go to there in Portugal. Every one of the 50 states here is really like its' own country in many ways.
always looking forward to new updates, thanks! Sidenote: Exercise caution when recycling/reusing old insulation, they used to put all kinds of cancerous crap into it to ensure inflammability
Happy 100th! I enjoy watching how you repurpose materials for your projects. Recycling materials for many individuals just means separated items in bins. You folks are opening the eyes of the world to other possibilities. We'll done.
Que lindo! Very special 100th video! It was super cool to see the collaboration with instituto favela da paz! And also the big sense of community created with the neighbors. Beautiful! 💚
Great video, various projects, so interesting. I loved the cooperation with the locals, and the support you get and give. Well done the people from Brazil , I can see further tie up with them snd yourselves.
Great job on reaching 100 videos. Loved Ingrid and her biscuit-snatching silliness (I was wondering when will you introduce her to us). Happy to see the bio-methanation setup. Kudos again.
Learning from some Brazilian experts on inexpensive bio gas generation model. More work on the pig house floor using recycled materials. Helping the neighbors pick grapes. Celebrating the wine picking and 100 video episode.
I have been following Dave since the precious plastic project. You have done a great work. Congratulations on your 100th project kamp video. I think you have become a community that documents the sustainable life in the best way in the world. Keep up the great work. Continue to be hope and light to the world.
i love how you help your nebours it would have taken a week for him to do on his own. so sweet of you. i want the same community in my part of the world, but here we tend to keep to ourself, even our nebours
Congratulations on the 100th episode and thank you for taking us on this amazing journey! If I'm ever brave enough to make some free time I'll send in an application to help out ;)
Great video! 👏👏👏👍 1) same biogas principle works on poop factory as well (y'all will have to think of something for the smell though. 2) Charcoal can be made from Mimosa logs. These can be used for cooking & heating. It is quite simple to make a smokless burner (lots of plans on the internet) + charcoal made from wood gives very less smoke as compared to the stone one. 3) Additionally, the leaves & chips & bark from mimosa can be turned into green manure for plants. (a) dig a trench system ie. 4 - 5 trenches parallel to each other. (b) fill up the first one with leaves & bark & green waste etc. (c) intermittently pour some mud also just a fine covering. (d) once the trench is full, top it off with some mud. (e) dig a hole towards one end of the trench & put 1kg of live earthworms @ the bottom, fill up the hole and seal it off. (f) now soak it with water completely & cover it with tarp. (g) check frequently for moisture level "keep it moist - always" (h) now goto trench no2 & start filling that up. (i) keep checking #1 to see if the earthworms are visible on the top. (j) if yes! then cut the wall to the adjoining #2 on the opposite side 6" to 1' wide all the way down, from where the earthworms had been put @ first. they'll migrate to #2 on there own in a week ir so; and now you have #1 ready, filled with A grade manure (quite costly also). Once all trenches are done, a channel can be dug leading back to #1. Keep the cycle going! A trench of the size of 4" wide × 12" long × 3" deep should take a couple of months to turn with 1+ kg of earthworms. Might have to replenish the worm count from time to time based on how long it's taking them to eat through compared to first cycle.
NICE WORK! you may wish to put some kind of cover or blanket over the digester tank to try and stabilize the temperature over winter. also make sure you are piping your gas through a scrubber filled of steel wool. the gas will naturally contain hydrogen sulphide which is corrosive and will eat your metallic fittings over time. a length of 12cm pipe packed with steel wool, cap on each end and an inlet and outlet is all thats needed. better to have it eat the more reactive steel wool instead. also make sure to put a drainage point on the scrubber as it will likely condensate water inside and fill up over time.
Happy 100th episode! I love watching your channel and have picked up a few ideas for making my own home a little more eco friendly. It’s been a real privilege watching you all learn and grow individually and as a collective. I wish you success in your endeavors and will enjoy seeing all the progress every Monday. Thank you for the great content!
Congratulations on 100 videos! This is a huge milestone. I've been watching since the beginning and I look forward to it every Monday morning. Here's to another 100 videos!
I hope Chester didn't get sick from eating all those grapes. I've been told that grapes are one of the foods that are toxic for dogs, leading to kidney failure.
For future builds, duct tape works well as an air sealer in the short term but will turn brittle over ~5 years and start cracking. Foil tapes work better for air sealing.
Parabens instituto Favela da Paz!!! Trabalho impecavel!!! Fiquei emocionada de ver a obra mais elaborada do projeto ser projetada por Brasileiros!! Ainda mais no ep 100!!! aaaa q feliz
Congratulations on this wonderful project. You are a group of people who are leaders for a better world. I use your videos to educate my children and to learn alternatives to a poorly globalized society. We live about 250 km away and I would love to visit you in the future. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for teaching us so many things. MOOD, STRENGTH AND LIFE
