Despite having seen several videos ( I must say all very beautiful ) on the ascension of the Grand Muveran, I had not found any that made me understand all the steps and directions to take...
So :
Giò Canepa present :
100% GRAND MUVERAN ( All the ascent step by step )
01:22 It's 11 AM on Sunday 28 August 2022, I arrive from Ovronaz having taken one of the first chairlifts of the morning to be here now, at Cabane Rambert 2580 mt. with a good margin of time available for my first contact with the Grand...
01:44 It would have been very useful to have a video that would make me better understand the type of climb, on RU-vid I found some good videos but none that met my expectations.
2:16 In the evaluation of mountaineering excursions, favorable conditions are assumed, i.e. good weather, good visibility, dry ground, fresh snow or snowfields in suitable conditions, etc.
02:35 This is the normal situation for several paths that lead to high-altitude huts.
Under these conditions it is not necessary to have equipment for mountaineering ascents.
02:54 However it goes without saying that in excursions like this, in case of precarious conditions, a minimum of equipment ( safety material for stringing, crampons and ice ax ) and basic knowledge on their use can be very useful.
03:29 There is a frequent misunderstanding that leads to delicate situations, which consists in assuming that the trekking it ends where the mountaineering ascents begin.
04:05 In reality a high-level hiking tour of difficulty ( T5, T6 ) is usually more demanding than a mountaineering excursion with degree of difficulty F.
04:38 A substantial difference compared to easy ascents is that with a T5 or T6 itinerary it is rarely, if ever, possible to ensure progression with ropes or similar aids.
05:16 so it is absolutely necessary to master the terrain on which you are, which presupposes a high level both technical and mental.
23:04 The Closet : Attack !
30:04 The Crack ( Cheminée )
33:01 Looking back to memorize where you passed is always good and right, especially if you meet Mrs. Fog...
35:56 Even this fog is coming, the weather report has not changed : GOOD WETHER with 2 suns in PM !
38:56 The Window on the long Traverse.
41:10 In the memory of Anselm Rosenmoller die here at 29 years old...
58:27 Another Window...
01:10:58 The Steps
01:14:50 Always the descent is the most delicate part of all climbing...
01:21:53 Exceptional view over the valais reaching the Leman lake.
01:22:02 A special effect NOT to be missed !
01:23:30 Thanks for watching !
01:23:54 Ciao !

Bravo Giorgio and a big time Thank you for this video. I was also looking for a video to show me what to expect for climbing the Grand Muveran. You did not get much feedback yet but this is very interesting and i would love to see a video like this for the Dent de Morcles from the Cabane de la Tourche and a video for Sommet des Diablerets from the Refuge de Pierredar. I am planning a hiking trip and climb those three summits. 🙂

Hello @PMan, Thanks for your comment. Indeed, when I climbed the Grand Muveran, I also couldn't find any videos that gave me a clear idea of what to expect, especially since I always hike alone and like to be well-prepared. In my videos, I always try to document the climbs as thoroughly as possible to show exactly where I've been, and I particularly enjoy capturing the descents because they offer more panoramic views. I've also set my sights on the Dent de Morcles. As for the Sommet des Diablerets, I would need to go with a group because of the glacier. By the way, there's another guy who hikes a lot in the Valais Alps named Xavier : www.youtube.com/@XavierTixa, you might find something useful on his channel for these two climbs. Happy hiking @PMan! I wish you the Best !

A queston why are there some blue, green and red paints along the way ? Are they 3 different routes like going to the top of Grand Muveran from 3 different places ?

No, it depends on the fact that the trail is not well-maintained, which is why there are various markers made with a brush and spray paint. Be sure to keep your eyes open because it’s easy to lose the trail.
