First thing I do when buying shoes with leather soles, is to have sole protectors glued on by a cobbler who really knows his job. They stop the slipping and it's easier and cheaper to replace them instead of the whole sole. Sole protectors also increase water resistance.

I bought these boots and I thought about sole protectors but it turns out that due to the greasy nature of butyl treated soles protectors are not an option.

Agree with this approach. I find leather soles with vibram sole protectors to be the best way to ensure longevity. The vibram protectors can be replaced every couple of years for around $30 and all wear is incurred by them. Thus, you could go 20 years without ever resoling, just replace the protectors. On rubber vibram soles or Dainite, etc, especially if the stitching goes through the sole, there’s far more damage to the uppers and welt when resoling. Thus, a leather sole with protectors will always last longer and frankly, never require a resole if the protectors are replaced before wearing out.

It will void the warranty, which means the manufacturer won’t do a resole. So if the manufacturer offers add-ons, go with that.

@@dalepellerin If you want rubber soles then buy boots with rubber soles. Leather soles let the earths energy get through to your body. That is the main reason to buy leather soled boots, other than for dancing.

I know this isn’t exactly the point of these videos, but… Don’t forget to mention laces. That’s one place a lot of companies cheap out and lace wear can tell a lot. Nothing is worse than a great pair of shoes that you have to sub out proper laces to.

Cut open kickstarter darling "Thursday Boots". It would be interesting to see where they cut corners on starter boots. Most of your boot autopsies are for expensive boots. Maybe contrast them with some boots from Walmart.

Ive worked my property in a pair of these, fixing barbed wire fence, cutting trees, etc. These boots are tough as nails and comfortable. Worth every penny.

I love Ariats! I had a pair for 11 years and they still look and function good as new and another pair I wore for 3 years as a kid and then gave to my mom after I grew out of them, she's been wearing them now for another 11 years so now they're 14 years old and still going strong!

I think this video setup will work nicely! I’m excited to see the common projects video! I was wondering if maybe you could do a video talking about boot soles some time; the different types and the durability/uses of each type. There’s certain types of soles that I can’t find much information on online, like crepe soles, and it’d be interesting to see your take on what the “best” sole is!

I like the shorter video. I see the Honda Express in the video, I won one of those in a contest about 1980, cool little scooter, a bit small for me but still a lot of fun. My regular ride was a 1,000 cc Gold Wing at the time, quite a difference.

Don't forget about the welt leather! A lot of shoes in the 200-400 dollar range are cheaping out by using fiberboard for the welt

Did they fit true to size? I bought a pair but I’m not sure if I got the right size? I’ve never worn a pair of boots with laces. I can fit my finger behind my heel, which is about a half an inch, but I don’t know that much room should be there for a boot with laces. I Hesitant that if I return them to get a half size down they will end up being too small

I bought a pair of these and I like them, maybe not more than other boots I have but they’re very nice esp with the 25% off coupon they were running when the video came out. They have a distinctly different style than most boots you get these days, definitely more of a western style lace up than a work boot style. Still nice but be aware. The leather sole is very very stiff and slippery though so be aware.

Hey you should keep the orange shatterboards on the wall behind you. That half-shoe has a million times more visual impact than those boots there. To my naive eyes, you have two chelsea boots there. Replace one with the shoe that generates troll volume.

Next you should cut open a pair of Koio white leather sneakers, and compare them to the common projects. I'm certain that they're just as good if not better, but they're quite a bit less expensive (Because obviously Common Projects is a name brand)

These seem like a good alternative to a high top sneaker as an everyday piece of footwear for someone doesn't just want some fabric glued to a chunk of rubber. Most of what's out there is sneakers / athletic shoes, work boots, and dress shoes. Not a lot of alternatives to sneakers / athletic shoes that aren't specific to either a formal setting or manual labor, a boot like this or maybe a good chukka or Chelsea seems like that alternative.

Those are a good looking boot ! I like your idea of giving us your experience of wearing the boot followed by the deconstruct video . I will be watching to see how these are made as I'm now thinking these may be my next pair of boots. BTW enjoyed the video tour of your shop on Stock & Barrel channel the other night . Correct me if I’m wrong, but the bison leather being thinner doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not as strong. Assuming we are comparing it to equally thick cowhide, the bison leather is anywhere from 2 to 4 times as strong.

What if you established a planned "wear course" for the footwear? For example, wear them for X hours at work, then have some sort of routine going on specific on and offroad paths. If you incorporate it as an exercise routine it'll be a nice health benefit too. Maybe incorporate some water and drying iterations

I have been looking for a replacement for my 22year old bill hide Justin Laceups. I loved them!!! Hopefully, these will do the trick. Another 20 years will take me to 93 . 😄🎅. Guess not 😔. They do not make an 11.5 EE…..so sad

I love Ariat boots! I have a pair that are about 14 years old and that I never was good about taking care of but they're still very much wearable despite how rough they look now. I won't buy anything else for the barn or riding.

Is bison leather generally "tougher" than cowhide? If so, the thickness on the upper may not matter that much, and still offer the same durability as 6 or 8oz cowhide leather

Have you considered reviewing anything from Corcoran? I'm particularly interested in what you think of the classic WWII style paratrooper jump boots. My understanding is that they're still constructed much the same as they were in the 40s, so it'd be interesting to see.

Would like to know if your ankle felt supported or if there was too much "give" or softness. And the geneneral time frame or mile marker before the shoe/boot felt broken in, to you. How often do you feel that particular shoe could go without being treated or condditioned? Or maybe if it needed any leather treatment during the first 100 miles. Maybe this will be in tomorrows video, how does bison leather stack up against regular cow or is there too many variables re: quality of the hide to determine? Great video.

Be nice to hear more about how comfortable they were, especially since you were walking on concrete how much shock absorbance there is or if it feels like you're walking on a slab of wood, maybe mention the benefits of each types of sole ie leather vs rubber, also duno if you are you going to mention it on your cutting vid but the difference in how supple the bison leather is compared to cow or how easily it broke in. Real interesting though
