DID YOU KNOW 👀I have a second YT channel! Make sure to subscribe to this Toad Two channel to get replays of CSII livestreams, edited monthly streaming highlights, & other tidbits like a "for dummies" breakdown of electricity & water in CSII that posts today. Over the holidays there will likely be fewer big videos from me on the main channel, so subscribing here can fill plenty of that void: www.youtube.com/@ToadTwo 💙🐸

@@ToadieZzz Another fantastic packed video with some great tips thanks, I don't know where you get the time. My favourite one was the ` (Tilda key) to toggle the info icons off and on, sometimes you just don't want them flashing to get your attention. I find the camera controls to both take caps and videos a bit frightening. Maybe you could do a video on that?

I do want to share one nightmare story for cranking parking prices to max everywhere. By setting all parking to $50, it eventually made my Household Wealth go down (didn't notice until it was hitting rock bottom). This in turn made it so that all my Commercial zones had Not Enough Customers, because none of my cims could pay for it, which created a death spiral of no jobs, no money, no employment, etc.

I refuse to believe the game simulates the citizens money this deeply
@SineN0mine3
@SineN0mine3 Месяц назад
@@paulosantana9607 it's fair enough to be skeptical, but all the dev diaries on the topic suggest that this is pretty how the simulation is intended to work. Parking is one of the few factors which affect the cim's wealth besides taxes so it's pretty reasonable to expect that over pricing it has at least some effect on the economy. I doubt that its complex or deep as they have implied at times, but it seems unlikely that there isn't at least something like what they're describing. The simulation doesn't always produce the outcomes you might expect but it's obviously doing *something* since it's not difficult to build a city that has problems as well as one that doesn't.

while it is true that you can ignore low density residential completely, it takes a very long time for them to start moving in, while at the same time high density low rent residential wont be constructed if there isnt enough demand for it. so the best way i've found to force the transition is to delete all of the highway connections, disable the rail station/subway/airport/seaport buildings, then zone a bunch of high density low rent residential or medium density row houses (preferably both) and finally delete a bunch of low density residential zones. this will force the people already in the city to invest on whatever is available, but they will eventually go bankrupt if they cannot sustain it, so low rent apartments are crucial to keep this in check until they can finish high level education to sustain themselves with office/industrial jobs. additionally its a good idea to have at least a little bit of industrial since once they level up to max they can import a massive amount of resources to cushion your commercial sector, this will ensure that even if your imports are coming in waves instead of a constant stream it wont crash the economy whenever your commercial buildings run out of stock. building more map connections with freeways also helps create a more constant stream of imports which should be carefully regulated since they can also artificially congest your road infrastructure if you dont have your residential districts enforce a truck/lorry ban. while rail/seaport infrastructure are the most capable of bringing in vast amounts of resources, they come in waves and are largely unreliable for the most part, theoretically you can build more train yards to create a steady stream of imports by rail but unless your existing trains are already close to full storage capacity it really isnt worth it. another thing to note is that if you build too much industry, you'll quickly find yourself in a position where you're producing waaaaaaay too much trash, which is very difficult to combat with incinerators/recycling centers. its best not to go overboard with industry even if its a quick early game way to earn money since it will hurt in the long run. for now with the current build you can just delete the landfill to make all the accumulated trash magically disappear, but later versions of the game will definitely remove this. it is confirmed as a bug, not a feature. in the topic of rail infrastructure, while it does seem practical to have passenger rail on the same network as cargo rail, it should be limited to cross country connections or connections to distant parts of your map, its not practical to build passenger rail infrastructure within various parts of your city since it takes up too much space and isnt meant to shuttle people across short distances. its often a good idea to plan your passenger rail sparsely and then supplement it with subway infrastructure (which can be built above ground and below ground) to support the thoroughflow of the city interior. while passenger rail stations can act as the inflow of people from other regions of your map or immigrants/tourists from other maps. also sewage isnt really a big problem as long as you can find (or make) a river with a fast enough flow rate, since fast moving rivers can apparently clean the sewage before it stagnates like what we're used to seeing. if you cant find any river to do this trick on then you can wait until you have hydropower tech and then build one to block off a large source of water, then create a spillway to control the outflow while creating an artificial fast flowing river to wash away your sewage. until you get there however you can just export your sewage. and finally i think that people should start getting used to respecting the topography of the map they're playing in instead of just flattening everything. sooner or later that terraform tool is going to cost money to use, so its best not to get comfortable with it. and on maps with especially steep topography with rivers, its just not practical to flatten everything when that river could spill right in your city just because you were careless. its a good idea to get used to the slope tool if you want a smoother area to build your city without making it totally flat.

If CO had you as their PR person, the game would be selling more. A lot of people don't know about these tidbits of information, but they are crucial to understanding the game. That's why most of the people think that the game is undercooked and doesn't have enough features. Small things like bulldozing tip, moving the road while turning off snapping, different relations and positions of network elements mean a lot and suddenly game looks a lot more intelligent and worth playing. Thank you for the tips. If I may suggest shorter videos (=< 10 mins.). You can make more of them and people won't lose focus and/or forget about the tips at the end of the video. This was fun. I made it all the way through without tapping the forward button a single time. Regarding tip#78, if you also toggle "Snap to zoning cell length" to on, it won't mess up your grid. In fact, the best way to extend a grid is to have those three options selected when you click the road beginning, then to untoggle "Snap to grid" so that you don't accidentally snap onto a misaligned grid. Of course different width roads will screw you over every time, but eh; that's paths are for blocking zoning. ;)

Did not know about the "additional" electric node to external city. Good to know. In one city I have the small coal plant and a gas powered plant, plus a couple windmills I started with and it's always been capped out. You mention how you can bump parking fees to the roof and they will still use it. I believe the regular parking lots are listed as Leisure, since they show up in that info view. But the underground and above ground parking are not. I also noticed when dropping the fees on those 2 down to 0 and increased the others all the way, and they still will not park in the under/above ground, but will even cause traffic jams to get into the regular parking lots. They are looking at them as leisure spots. Spent an hour the other day trying to fix traffic until I realized it was the parking lots. Wondered if this was a bug. Spending all those points for the under/above parking and it doesn't get used. I also wondered about the exporting of goods. At one point one of my cities was maxed in the green for abundance, but I was not exporting anything. The trains were always empty, but in one info view it would list how much there really was being exported. So idk if one part is broke or what. It still wasn't much. Along with poo, idk how but I'm always making money with trash. As if I'm importing it from outside? You mentioned increasing tax on cars... After the update I had this really weird issue with Lumber, which went from making over 25 million, to instantly and spontaneously losing over 45 mil. I thought it was a bug, but after it leveled out, the same thing happened the next day with pharma. It quickly went from making 45 mil to costing me 94 mil. While it was doing that, I decreased the taxes to -10 and it went from - to + income. Then as it leveled out (and started losing again) I increased it back up to 15% and it was back to normal. Granted this city just hit 80k yesterday, so it's making a lot now. Pharma then Lumber are my biggest money makers. Concrete is a close 3rd at 15-20 mil. And a pointer for making additional nodes on a road, like the bus stop thing you were talking about, turning off all snapping works much better. Obv still using the straight road tool and double click.

RE: Tip 53: If you MAX ZOOM IN on the arrow over the water, you'll notice two of the points of the triangle have less pixels, they're kind of flattened, the one point that is perfectly done is the true direction of the water. But it is as they say, pretty still and not-moving.

Yes you can have your city massively indutrialized, which is a great start, idealy how cities truly grow. This keeps costs down by not needing a ton of expensive schools, but you can change this later by adjusting tax rates. I'm at roughly 100k pop with over 200 mil, exporting twice as much as imports. I now cant build enough schools for the influx to office space now after adjusting tax to bring in office buildings. This actually goes in proper build of large buildings for cities, where as allot of people try to go for skyscrapers way to early in city size.

The parking fee part is kinda realistic, especially here in Europe. We have outrageous fees for parking in city centers yet people choose to bring their cars because some of us just have to for one reason or another, Im one of them. For me it's all about saving time when doing my erands, it's more than worth it to pay for expensive parking rather than waiting for public transportation every time I need to get to another part of the city. Don't get me wrong, public transport in Europe is great, but cars are still just more convenient and faster in many smaller cities. Take my home city Lund in Sweden as an example. Driving from my house to my parents takes around 5min, but it takes 30min by buss due to the simple fact that we live at opposite ends of the same buss route.

Great advice here. I got to 100k without ever zoning low density. I stalled a bit at that point, mostly because the simulation slowed to a halt. Do you know what exactly drives residential demand? The only thing I can tell seems to be job availability.

I generally recommend completely ignoring the demand metrics. Look the the employment statistics instead -- if you have lots of jobs available, people will move in.

Regarding tip #79 at 21:44 : Divided roads and 2-way tram roads don't need the nubbin to get the tram to reverse; it just works! Unfortunately, pedestrian roads are not considered divided roads.

I really should've included this in the video. 🤦Will make it more clear in the next one!

In Scotland we say "Roon-aboot" not "Round about". Could be Canadian you are doing though so either way is fine i guess but just wanted to offer the option XD

At 19:43, only because you asked: Think of it when your partner has reached depths you couldn't have imagined. It is not just "Oh" face but fact: "Deep Oh"

Wow, I feel like I just drank from a Canadian fire hose for 27 minutes and 59 seconds. Subscribed! By any chance do you have a version that goes a little slower and describes how to do some of the things in more detail? I'm old and have also enjoyed years and years of drug and alcohol abuse. Thanks for the great video!

Hey, can relate with harder years in the past. I don't have a version of this that's slower, but you can slow things down in the video player! Not quite the same, I know. Once bug fixes etc. are finalised I am hoping to get a very even-paced down-to-basics tutorial for the entire game out. Just a bit of a waiting game. Don't ever hesitate to come by a livestream either here or on Twitch and poke me with questions real-time!
