I crashed a similar force, but in a different way: recovery tank VT-55 (winch power up to 100 tons). Around the loop strength of wire rope winch and pulley over 2-max power. My VT-55: V12, capacity 40 liters, 580 hp power, weight 45 tons, the consumption of 260-1150 liters diesel / 100km. about 1 hour of work, 350 liters of diesel and most importantly it was safe.
Looks like the right way to do that job. Don't use expensive stuff, and keep a safe distance. Somewhat like taking down a tree. Explosives are for those constructions that you can't take down any other way.
A lot of things happened in 2008. We had the recession, and I think my Grandad had a stroke that year. He died in 2016, _exactly_ 8 years after this video was uploaded.
Most of these tall silo's are being replaced by the "sausage" tubes that lay horizontal on the ground. They're easier to fill and unload and are air-tight.
I tore old stuff down on my farm and now years later, I regret it. There's just some things the younger generation will never get to see or esperiment.
Ha ha! I have a video of a silo almost the same...Taken down with a beam and a Cat 225 like this and it also dropped but did not fall over. I pushed it the rest of the way down. My beam was also on a set of dollies instead of chained directly to the bucket. But very very similar video!
@freethoughtmusic Nope it was old and crumbling so they took it down before a kid got crushed by it. This farm is over 2000 acres and will never be a subdivision its in the deed FYI
Think about how much grain has been through there in the past century. The number of meals it made. The families who ate it. The generations who grew up on it. I suppose it had to be done, but I always hate to see old buildings come down. Just one more piece of history lost to the pages of a history book, if that.
much cheaper and safer if dynamite was strategically placed. 10 stick of dyno is 50 bucks whole sale....the fuel that the track hoe uses cost way more not to mention wear and tear. still a cool vid though. : )
Just like cutting down a tree. I had to slide the cursor along to speed it up cuz the realtime process was too slow. Try 'time-lapse' next time. Works great for demo jobs!!!
Most likely was what's known as an attractive nuisance. An old timer standing as an sentinel to time passing isn't worth the death or injury of kids whose only crime other than trespassing was looking to have a little fun.
Proper amateurs... Apart from the risk of damage to the excavator, that is just stupid. All they need to do is to run a long steel cable round the silo, both ends onto a large caterpillar type bulldozer and pull. The thing would just collapse on the spot..
wait.... 9/11 physics suggests this should have collapsed in on its own footprint instantly. whoa! weird how it didnt just crumble and pancake down from that first drop. ;)
What do you mean, "Where's our food going to come from?" Where else....CHINA!!! Isn't that where we get everything else....and American companies give them out jobs too...
you are funny where is our food gonna come from. I am sitting in Kuwait right now. 3/4 of the food imported here to the markets is american food. Right down to the microwave egg rolls. You need to chill out!
