Golden if you lived in the suburbs. The crime rate was much higher then, especially murder.. serial killers were literally all over the place. Its not as perfect as some of you choose to remember. And it wasn't a safe time to live, especially for people in the inner city.

@rjc7289
@rjc7289 Год назад
The 80's were a larger-than-life decade that I'm glad I got to live through during my pre-teen and teenage years. So many memories from that time that I will always cherish -- getting cool toys for x-mas like Transformers, Star Wars and A-Team action figures, hanging out with my cousins in the summertime and swimming in their pool, playing little league baseball, eating all kind of junk food like hot dogs, candy, soda, etc., playing video games in the local arcade and at home with my gaming systems, acting in the annual high school musical production, listening to so many cool rock and metal bands on my cassette player, and the list goes on and on. It was the last really joyous time in my life before the responsibilities, burdens and stresses of adulthood set in the following decade. It felt like getting the plug pulled on an awesome shindig, and everybody got a rude awakening that the good times were over. Anyone who's been through that transitional period between the exciting 80's and the dreary 90's will tell you it wasn't a pleasant transition. The Seattle grunge scene replaced the fun heavy metal bands, AIDS forced itself into the public sphere with the death of rock icon Freddie Mercury, and by-and-large, everything 80's was considered obsolete and out-of-touch with the serious, dull, dreary 90's. I kept flying the flag to support all things 80's, but people like me were few and far between. Granted, I got with the times like everyone else, but I liked what I liked, and a change in trends wasn't going to change that for me. There will never be another time as wonderful and fun as the 80's! Those of you who weren't fortunate enough to live through that time surely missed out on something special!
@raydeen2k
@raydeen2k 5 лет назад
The 80's gave us Personal Computers, The Sony Walkman, and The Safety Dance. And also Mr. Crazy Hair from A Flock of Seagulls, and the incredible band Haircut 100. I mean, up until that point, I had no idea where we were going from here.

Born in '74 here. But our country was like frozen in time. As a small kid streets were still paved with 'bold heads' as we call 'm. That was street paving from the early 1900s. Most houses dated back from the same time, very beautiful buildings. Old folks were sitting on a chair knitting and gossiping while the food was on the stove. You could still smell the post war smells in the street, or you could admire 50s architecture which was still prominent, the post modernism of the 60s and 70s. It was like a blend of 5 decades and all were still very visible. All that ended in the 90s after president Reagan indirectly ordered our country to destroy old buildings so our construction industry could expand. I was very very angry about that. I could not understand who in the bloody hell Americans think they are, and i was such a fan of American music and movies. It was the first time i realized they could be very dangerous.

It is so strange to hear how the 80's are talked about today. My wife and I grew up with the Duck and Cover drills in schools, Mr. Fred Rodgers was the first celebrity to kiss a child with AIDS on the head in front of reporters, and the fall of the Berlin Wall still brings tears of joy to my eye. Funny how it's history book stuff to the current youth and colored with nostalgia of those my age.

I'm a proud Eighties kid, so much so that when a local classic rock station started playing music I remembered being released in my teens, I quit listening to that station. You missed an important thing that happened back in 1983. Before the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), there was the Atari 2600, 5200, Colecovision, Odyssey and the Intellivision. The console market back then was flooded and what's worse is that theydidn't make games that were good. The prime example of this is the video game adaptation of E.T and the port of Pac-Man for theAtari 2600. It took two years for someone to fix the video game market and that was Nintendo that made the NES. BTW, I was born 2000. Pretty weird, huh?

The Shroud of Turin was carbon dated as 700+ years old. About ten years ago, it was discovered that the edge where the sample was taken was not part of the original shroud. The shroud has been handled so much through the years that seven hundred + years ago, it was mended with cloth of that same time period. This discovery began when a historical seamstress was restoring worn areas. She noted that the sewing method used was from the first century. The cloth was then examined and the added areas were noted for the first time. Since then, noninvasive techniques were done to date the shroud. ( no more cutting the cloth). Pollen was lifted that came from the first century. The original shroud photographer, who never quite accepted the date, was the one to tell one of the original scientists. That scientists agreed to meet him but told the photographer would not change his mind. Well, he was dumbfounded and yes, he did change his mind.

I loved the 90s cause they were so real. 80s, 70s, every era has a bit of an ideal to it but the 90s. The 90s were about raw human existence, not about style, not about egotistic design, it was just raw. It was cool. Coolest era. But don't get me wrong, I love the style and vibe of all the other good eras. Even the 40s! That's where the revolution started!

"On December the 19th, 1984, Maggie Thatcher signed a declaration to return leadership of Hong Kong....After gaining the territory at the end of the first opium war in 1942, Britain had control of the colony for over 150 years." That checks out. Pfft! It was only 142 years, which is....not even 150 years, much less more than 150 years, according to the actual dates.

Brother made an awesome word processor. I was the only kid that had one and it printed using an old school type writer. I would do the assignments for my typing class and made good money. I got away with it until the last week of school when I made a mistake. The whole class had the same mistake. I was ratted out, but still got an A for the year.
