Some Vikings were even shorter than 5'6", some were under five feet and most historians didn't know this is where the term munchkin came from. Germany was invaded once by the 'little people with big swords', they called them munchkins.

Fact 102: A Norse runestone unearthed in Scotland warned that the locals were insane and violent. That's right. The Scottish scared the Vikings. However, some clans do claim to have Viking descent.
@thevoicewithin9845
@thevoicewithin9845 4 года назад
I posted a previous comment you may find interesting; "I'm Scottish and most of us Scots have either Viking roots, Celtic roots or even both! There's a wee bit on the island of Islay, Scotland, where Vikings settled and lived beside the Scots. Trained with them and even taught them how to build long boats. They also had a little tiny island where the 'leaders' of the town would go and discuss political and lawful matters. The long boat building backfired though... when the English declared war against the Norsemen, they demanded that these Scots help build ships to counter the Vikings, so we Scots built similar but more manueverable boats that essentially helped slowly win back England and prevent further raids from the seas..." Shame really, we could have been BFF's! Imagine Vikings helping William Wallace and/or Robert the Bruce fight against England!? Yeah... those Anglo's knew exactly what they were doing haha

I grew up right next to (400m or so) the Rimol farm, where the thrall Tormod Kark killed his master Hákon jarl after King Olav Tryggvason issued a wanted dead warrant on the earl. The chieftain Einar Tambarskjelve (lit.: 'Shaking belly' 😂) also had a farm just down the road from where we lived. I used to walk past the site on my way to school. :) Einar Tambarskjelve was a master archer, and slagged off the king when he broke his bow 'cause it was too weak. A kneeling Tambarskjelve, as he's just fired an arrow, is on the coat of arms of the municipality of Melhus. :)

you didnt mention a few things so i will: The Norwegian Vikings mostly raided the British isles, The Danish raided the French and eastern Europe while the Swedish traveled through Russian rivers to the Byzantine Empire aswell as Italy (wich the Danes also raided). The name for Vikings in what is now Russia was actually "Rus" wich is where they got their name, so yes Swedish Vikings gave Russia their Name. The First Viking raid (that we have evidence of) actually occured in Finland by Swedish Vikings, this was a few years before Lindisfarne. The myth of Vikings putting their dead on ships and then pushed them into the water and set fire to the boats is well, a myth. Something similar happened tho, They often buried people in stone formations resembling boats and for some high ranking individuals they were buried in actual ships with their belongings such as slaves, horses or jewelry. Thats most of what i know that isnt mentioned in this video, i was incredibly happy when i saw this in my notifications. Great job as always

Another interesting note; The English word Tuesday is derived from Old English Tiwesdæg and Middle English Tewesday, meaning "Tīw's Day", the day of Tiw or Týr, the god of single combat, and law and justice in Norse mythology. Tiw was equated with Mars in the interpretatio germanica, and the name of the day is a translation of Latin dies Martis.

@@101Facts 101 facts about Norse mythology please? The Norsemen had one of the most interesting cultures and definitely the best religion ever. Please do that, also mention the berserker of Stamford Bridge and how he's definitely dining with Odin as I'm typing this. Yeah, the lone berserker holding back an entire army isn't a fact and neither is mythology, but still damn cool and interesting. You could make 101 facts about their religion and customs since back then it wasn't considered mythology. Like how Christmas is based on Yule and how they had orgies in the forest while high af at Uppsala(jk, idk I that's true but sounds like a fun thing to do). Having threesomes wasn't a wild thing though, especially for married couples. Now that's a fun fact.

Vikings were not only skilled hunters and warriors but caried a lucky charm with them when going into battle and plundering, yes, hidden in a pocket was a gerbil or hamster they would pet for good luck. If the warrior fell in battle the ruffled hamster would scurry away and hide from the 'hamster collector' on the battlefield denoting a Viking's luck has run out.

So Viking lands of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Faroe Islands (or would they go under Denmark?)

Nope They were all individual, except at some time periods. Thogh Iceland and the Faroe Islands were a part of Norway at the time

I'm from Sweden, where one of the last speakers of Old Norse lives. And no, Icelandic is not Old Norse. The thing i'm talking about is, at least here in Sweden, known as Ulum Dalska. Sorry, i don't know the English name for that language, but it's an dialect of Old Norse. One of the last ever, might even be the last known dialects of Old Norse. It's Old Norse mind you, as i've seen the oh so heads high Icelandic people getting annoyed and pissed off every time they hear about it. And Let's not forget that Leif Ericson was a Norweigan and his entire family too was Norweigan. And one of Ragnar Lodbroks sons went to Sweden, so i might share some of his dna. And also, the vikings did actually have sex with their female thralls, or slaves. They had sex with their slaves quite often and that's why people here in Scandinavia have genes from all over the world. Something i don't care about is that the vikings often had sex with female slaves when a jarl or king died, and that female slave often agreed to get so drunk of mead, that the men who wanted to show respect to their jarl or king, raped her, or at least had very, very rough sex with her. It was basically group sex they had with one single female slave. And i find the vikings way of execution quite amusing. Yeah, i have quite dark humor. I like the blood eagle, which is a way of execution, it was at least mentioned by the vikings when they were raiding and pillaging in England

@@AyeGee721 haha it is something to be rather proud of though. Maybe not so much the pillaging, even though pretty much everyone did it back then. But the fact that the Vikings were such formidable warriors and actually, most were just looking for land to settle on and farm. They were extremely successful and claimed a heck of land and discovered so many 'new' lands too! Plus their beliefs were pretty incredible, albeit, a bit strange lol I'm Scottish and most of us Scots have either Viking roots, Celtic roots or even both! There's a wee bit on the island of Islay, Scotland, where Vikings settled and lived beside the Scots. Trained with them and even taught them how to build long boats. This backfired though... when the English declared war against the Norsemen, they demanded that these Scots help build ships to counter the Vikings, so we built similar but more manueverable boats that essentially helped slowly win back England and prevent further raids from the seas.

To he Kensington stone shows Vikings were in the centre of North America. We know they enslaved the Irish who lived in Iceland. Their trading with Indian, for Ulfberht Sward, crucibal steel was part of the, then, lake covered, areas north of the Himalayas. Russia gained it's name from Vikings who traded in its rivers, and the Black sea. Their invasion of North Africa had them converting and receiving the south of Italy and Sicily, from the pope, even though the Arabs believed it was theirs. The Caspian sea helped their trade too. You missed much more. They were traders.

Ok so nobody have mentioned the descent of Knut (Cnut) look it up . It might surprise you...ok you probably won't so I'll tell you. His grandmother was polish princess - daughter of first know (non legendary) polish Prince Mieszko I WHO is said to establish Poland as a country by announcing country's baptism and make it Christina ( of course there were people there before that ) and other fact is about the burial because there are ancient burial grounds said to be Slavic ( and or Celtic and Nordic) where they berried people and put up a little mount and put stones on them and arrange smaller stones around them but some nobles where berried on the ships and burnt with all there belongings and that include a wife aswell ( burnt alive ) . I think that shows that people migrated and mingled around Europe all the bloody time. After all it is said we all come from Africa right?
