(1021) Castle Weirdness Lock Picked

Vitaly sent in this lock to be picked that he calls castle weirdness.
Whipped videos highlight custom made locks sent to the LockLab as a challenge. They contain innovative modifications, unique security designs, and careful craftsmanship. Challenge lock design is difficult, to say the least, but many LockSporters excel in lock design and hand craftsmanship. Because there is such innovation among LockSporters, many manufacturers pay attention to the WHIPPED videos and incorporate the security techniques into their own locks.
There is only ONE RULE: The key must work. You are free to cover up the key to prevent me from seeing it until after I successfully pick (or fail to pick) the lock. I will make THREE 10-minute attempts (down from six 10-minute attempts in April 2018). If I fail to open it in that time, it will become a WHIPPED video. If you are interested in sending a challenge lock, please use this address:

They blew their r&d budget on the cylinder, and didn't have anything left over for engineering the shackle latching system.

The keyway kinda looks like an x-wing ! 😀 Great anti-pick measures in such a small lock It's a pity it can be bypassed so easily.
@JennyEverywhere

Looked more like a Space Invader to me.
@tobias6014
@tobias6014 7 лет назад
Maybe it's because I'm too young to love Space Invaders because I've played it in my youth and to old to think it's retro cool, but I still like to think it the keyway looks like an X-wing when you're looking straight from the front or back of it. Might still be a Space Invader, though. 😀

Could be a Starfury. I see what you mean, it could be the stern silhouette of an X-Wing. Or the side silhouette of a space invader. Sorry, I'm old.

@bosnianbill
@bosnianbill 7 лет назад
No, I have not gotten either of them open. I spend over an hour yesterday and got nothing from either of them. No false set, nothing. Feedback is non-existent.
@lokdoktor8506
@lokdoktor8506 7 лет назад
Ok i think the non-feedback is caused from the pins i made they are exactly the same diameter as the chambers so there is no binding order/they all bind together once tension is applied same as that kwikset.

If you don't have the key for this lock, and have not the faintest idea that it'll only require 1/8 turn to unlock it, how will you figure out what pick to use? I've observed that most of the locks you show, if not all, came to your possession as a set. Padlock 🔐 and keys 🔑 so more or less you already have manipulated the operations and have an idea how it operate. I'm actually impressed by your expertise.

I'm curious, what if you made the hasp of the lock larger on the outside (where people can attack it with bolt cutters/grinders) and slightly undersized where it goes into the lock body. Wouldn't it then be impossible to shim?

why have they put a lot of thought into the keyway and not the top? because the odd key shape is what impresses the customers and gets the sales done, they did not bother to go even the extra inch, don't mention miles.

Sure you can! Get the Madbob set or the Dangerfield Praxis. If I was able to order it with reasonable shipping to the Philippines, I'm sure you can get it shipped reasonably to Canada as well :D As for training locks, just salvage whatever old locks you have laying around, that's what I started with. Good luck! :)

Skauber hi skauber, thanks for the advice, right now I do have a collection of old padlocks, deadbolts, etc I practice with some improvised picks but any real quality sets are illegal in Canada unless ur a register locksmith, police, or along that line. Lots of places won't even ship here because it's the law. But thanks anyways!

Illegal to buy picks. Not illegal to pick your own locks...
@GranRey-0
@GranRey-0 7 лет назад
Here's what the law says since what you said appears to be a loop hole. So long as they're my locks...but it's worded in a way that makes it seem like you need a permit (but owning the lock trumps that?) "A person, other than an authorized person or an owner of a locking device, must not possess any instrument designed or adapted to open or bypass a locking device without using the key or combination unique to that locking device, including any of the following: (a) a key; (b) a pick; (c) a rocker key; (d) a vibrating pick tool." It doesn't say it's illegal to buy them, but the seller must keep the name/address of the recipient.
@mackam440
@mackam440 7 лет назад
Dale Stephanson Be very carefull as an 'Instrument designed or adapted to open or bypass' your own lock can be proven to do the same for other locks and thus make it illegal.

I know there are a lot of people saying it'd be way easier with a 1mm cutting disk and I'm quite willing to agree. However no one has mentioned one point and I think it's possibly quite important. Hardened steel chain has a fuck load of spring tension due to the way it's made. You'd have to be sooo careful not to allow the thin cutting disk to be jammed or caught when you're just about to cut through with the first cut. it could shatter the disk.
