Walter's Hot Dog Stand was founded by Walter Harrington and his wife, Rose, in 1919 in Mamaroneck, New York. In 1928, hoping to attract new customers, roadside businesses like Walter built a unique pagoda-style roof with ornamental dragons and lanterns covered in copper tiles. I cooked up my Walter's Hot Dogs using their techniques on my Wildfire Griddle to cook up this historic hot dog! wildfireoutdoorliving.com/gri...

Years ago we used to go to a place shopping. Nearby they had a little mon-n-pop restaurant. They had a unique bun for their hotdogs. It was a spit top. They would use a roller to butter the buns before putting them into a toaster made for toasting the hotdog buns. They had a homemade brown mustard as well. I've a decades-old recipe for a hotdog sauce (Chili) from another little place that served dogs way back in the 40s and 50s.

Thanks for the review. I grew up in Mamaroneck and attended the high school across the street from Walter's, so know and love their hot dogs, and use the same technique at home to get the better Maillard reaction and crispness. The double is my go-to as the ratio of dog to bun it even better, especially since the mix Walter's uses is more mild. Ex-residents will drive hours to eat there. Walter's also makes good fries and shakes. It was the place we all went to at halftime during Saturday afternoon football games. One helpful hint: the town's name is pronounced, "Ma-marrow-neck" and not "Marrow-neck" -- the name comes from an Indigenous word used for the area.

Wow, that's a pricy hot dog! I hope this video covers that cost and then some, for you. So, I noticed you were asking for requests. Years ago when we lived in Ohio, there was an area that tourists and locals alike frequented in late spring, summer, and early fall. Geneva on the Lake. Among other businesses located there, was a place called Eddies Grill. They made the most fantastic chili dogs, ever!!! (regular length and foot long). The buns were toasted on the grill and had a nice light 'crisp'. The hot dogs were deep-fried, and the "chili" was super good. There weren't beans in it, and the flavor was pretty unique. It reminded me of what it might taste like if one were to combine a good hot dog chili with sloppy joes. It has been a few decades since I've been in Ohio, but boy have I missed the days of Eddies Grill. I have tried to recreate the chili quite a few ties, but I just can't seem to get it right, and it isn't the same without that being on point. I guess it was his mothers' secret chili recipe. Any chance you might consider taking on The re-creation of an Eddies Grill footlong chili dog as a request? That would be super cool, especially if you nail it! Thank you for considering my request!
@jonsher7682
@jonsher7682 3 месяца назад
That's mostly shipping costs and markup. Walter's sells that same package of 12 uncooked hot dogs in a package for $7.99, so with GoldBelly, that gets marked up to $70+. At the stand, a single costs $3.75 and a double $5.65, so six double would cost $33.90, including six buns. I went to high school across the street in the 1980s -- don't recall the prices then but I'm certain it was well under $2 a hot dog.

Not everyone can get their mustard shipped to them where they live, a "close clone" gives people in those areas the ability to have the next best thing... Actually, in my video I stated that my mustard copycat was close in flavor, but added that their mustard sauce was "only $8 and some change" I don't that that is discouraging at all.
