Wait, what? He’s no longer with us? I was hooked on his videos and haven’t watched for a while until now. I was just watching a video before this one and a guy was talking about losing a Nashville hotdog vender. I bet he was speaking of Shotgun Red. So sorry…..I can tell he was an awesome guy
I sure miss Steve's videos and his wonderful personality. I love going back and watching his old videos. Thank you, Steve, for all the great videos. May God bless you and we sure miss you, sir. ~Sam
I used to sell hot dogs at a local Farmer's Market. I steamed them to just short of splitting open, and they plumped up beautifully, and did not lose any flavour into water. However, if you do boil them, you can use the boiling water as a tasty soup base, or for boiling rice or pasta. I am writing this on March 28, 2020, in the midst of the worldwide Covid-19 crisis, so all my "Waste not, want not" instincts are in high gear.
Patricia Salisbury In twenty years we will be telling kid, grand kids, great grandkids about depression era cooking from the 2020s...... because the marxists are trying to destroy our economy....
7:40 😅 I'm trying real hard not to hear this as a double entendre . . . Always nice to see one of y'all's older videos pop up. He just had such love for cooking and his food experiences. He never fails to bring a smile to my face.
You’re such a kind thoughtful man that just brightens the day! Thank you for thinking about the little ones it’s scary when they start eating solid foods!
It's not so much the recipes that I tune in for, it's Steve's personality. Very sad to hear that he passed, but his videos help us honor his memory plus I love seeing him say hi, to Miss Sheila.
When I was a kid in the 1950’s there was a restaurant called Lum’s who steamed their hot dogs in beer. After hours they were plump and were incredibly tasty. Lum’s was a Florida chain of open air restaurants. The ones I went to were near my home on Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road Mall. Their sauerkraut had caraway seeds and was a great addition.
I didn't know he had passed either so long ago! Please never take his video's down. I still do his recipes as I see ones I haven't tried. I got hooked on him when I watched his Johnny Cake episode! I made them for myself and my grandsons. Thank you Shotgun Red! I hope you are still cooking in the big kitchen in the sky!
We will continue with Steve. He started this cooking show . We want his legacy to continue with all his hard work before he passed away. When he passed he had made 307 of these recipes. shotgunred.com
Made me some Gma Hall's dawgs tonight in a hotel room.......turned out perfection! Thanks for sharing old skool tips, and for the public service announcement for hot dog safety. 👍 Miss you lots Steve Hall. So grateful that you ladies are keeping this channel going. 😇
I made these today !! I can't believe that after 6 minutes they got huge I used these large 1/4lb Miller Hot Dogs and they were so plump and good. I used to stick them in the microwave never again!! Boiling for 6 minutes was awesome!!!
I worked at Steak n Shake . Wore skates. But we would have them in a steamer and they would be very fat and delicious. I’ll take chili, onion, mustard ,ketchup on mine. Ty
Can’t help but wonder how many “grandma’s” recipes and tricks have been lost to history. My grandma had the best turkey dressing and I fear I’ll never know how she did it! Great video Steve, grandma’s rule!!!
Once in awhile, I need to watch a video from Steve. Recently I lost another favorite, Daddy Jack. He was also a person I felt emotionally connected to. Besides the fact that I enjoy the recipes and the lessons learned (I always bake my roux in an oven now), they made me feel like I was a neighbor who just dropped by to visit. I wish I had videos of the people I loved who are no longer here. This is comforting. Thank you, Sheila, so much for keeping this channel. 😇
Thank you for watching! Steve always liked to cook with the viewers not for. He loved to cook. When your watching this channel we alway want you to feel at home here. This world in one big kitchen. We are all right around the kitchen table/ bar having a good time swapping stories and learning as we go. Since Steve’s not here we just do it our way. Hopefully it still has Steve’s feel still in it! 👩🍳👩🍳
That’s just awesome Steve. RIP brother. Sure do miss you. So glad Miss Sheila and Jen kept your cooking show going. Love watching you show old and new!
Steve is like that neighbor that's always there for you no matter what. Rain or shine...Steve is there. God bless Sheila and RIP Steve. Inspiring human beings from the grave. Love ya both.
Awesome great video. Where ever you are my friend. Don't feel bad. My mother use to cook them the same way. I never knew how she cooked them until just now. I truly miss you and your videos. RIP My friend. I'm sure God needed an awesome cook when he took you home.
This is the first video I watched from this channel today and I think, "This guy is cool, he's like the Bob Ross of cooking" so I go to check the comments to see what others thought and I find out he past away in 2018, now I'm sad because he seemed like such a nice guy. So even though I never got to watch this channel while he was alive and its been a few years, it only feels right to say, rest in peace and I wish your family and loved one the best.
Funny story we had a cookout and went thru a ton of food Everyone had full bellies We forgot we had hotdogs on the charcoal grill they roasted slow and low for hours Amazingly they were not burnt and they were awesome Best grilled hotdog I ever had 😋
🤣best cooking show ever....miss you Steve! Thanks Sheila for keeping his memory alive! This show Always brings a smile to my face along with delicious 😋 recipes! ❤
Never tried it but I always wondered why I can never make good 🌭! You are sorely missed in these horrible times my friend! At least we can watch and forget about how bad things are.
This is just amazing! I, too, learned this trick by accident. In my case I'd left the kitchen without setting a timer and simply forgot how long they'd been boiling, so I shut the eye off and let the dogs sit in the cooling water for about 10 minutes. When I pulled them out I was like, "WOW...these things are huge!" And they were so tasty! Now I know whatever I did worked out like Steve is demonstrating here. Now I make all my hot dogs like this except for when we are griling outside. RIP Steve!
We had boiled hotdogs at my grandma's house every Sunday. They kept them on simmer all day after boiling them to your timeframe. They never split because of the low heat. I like my hotdogs boiled better than broiled in the oven or grilled on charcoal. Here recently I've wondered how they would turn out grilled after being boiled. I wind up eating whatever I see you cook. You had a talent for getting people to eat and putting them in a good mood. You should have been the 2016 president. Best wishes to you and your family 😁
I'm heartbroken to discover Steve's passing,I recently just found his channel,I feel like I have known him all my life,I just can't say anymore, but I will pray for him and all his loved ones
Thank you, this was so enjoyable. I love the excitement, giggles, and storytelling. Kind of reminds me of late night hosts on public access channels telling stories between old scary or sci-fi movies.
I just tried this. It works: 6.5 mins on boil. One tip: make sure there is PLENTY of water. Cover the dogs well at the start. You lose a lot of water to steam in a small pan boiling this long.
1 tbs. butter...2 tbs. franks hot sauce or similar. Melt in fry pan and toss in the dogs. Roll them around in the sauce. Then fry till you get the look of a campfire dog. The best.
When I was in the Air Force we used to get franks from a street vendor smothered in onions that were sauted in butter and smothered with ketchup...DEElicious!
I'm from the Midwest and I have never heard of mayonnaise on a hot dog. Ketchup?? oh yes !! Mayo...whaaaat ??? Now I'm going to have to try it. Steve has yet to steer me wrong. RIP Mr.Hall. U are sorely missed but I do enjoy watching ur shows from years passed. I find myself smiling watching ur show and excitement to try a new recipe !!
After watching an old Nashville Now episode and seeing Shotgun Red on it I was thinking about Steve today and decided to pop on his channel and watch an old video. I sure do miss him, but am thankful the channel is still around so we can watch what he left us.
Shotgun red I miss you I loved your cooking show you were funny and I love your recipes I'll cook hotdogs your grandma's way and no other way ever again they taste so yummy her way thank you so much for sharing your recipes Rest In Peace
Thanks for these vids man it’s April 7th 2020 my sons 5th bday, I made them for him tonight just like this after we went fishing. This virus has a grip on the world something fierce but the dogs and time with a 5 year old make you forget about all the crap. Funny thing how life works I didn’t watch this vid till almost 11 pm so what a cool coincidence I came across your video
I was raised in Foster care, and my foster Mom use to create the same type as your Grandma's, I had never figured out how she did it either. Until now.
@@CookingwithShotgunRed , my adopted daughter loves Hot Dogs, now that I figured out a way to fill her up using less HD's , I can save tons of money at the same time. lol ;)
I never knew this. I always nuke them lolol From now on this is the hotdog I'll be eating. Thank you Shotgun Red as always you are awesome and missed . Thank you Shila you're awesome .
I miss Steve so much. A tear popped in my eye when this popped up on my feed. So glad to have his videos and the new videos as well. However, no ketchup on a hot dog. No! I'm going to make my next batch of hot dogs like this.
Food in Heaven must be more fun now with Steve. Thank you Steve and Miss Sheila. I have tried all sorts of RU-vid methods for cooking hot dogs - cutting slits and cooking in butter, steaming with just a bit of water... Grandma Hall's method is the best by far!
Another good recipe is Hot legs. Brown some chicken legs in some butter. Place them standing up in a crockpot and coat all the legs very well with hot sauce and add some more to keep moist. Yum!
I just discovered myself that Steve passed away and I had just discovered his side a couple of months ago and absolutely adore it Oh Sheila I bet you miss your friend terribly blessings to you and Steve's family so so sorry to hear
No Way. He’s Gone ? 😪. I love his show. Such a great Teacher & Cook. Very Sad. I’m So Sorry for his Family He talked so kindly about his Grandmother. Love ❤️ Forever RIP
