Dr. Greg Prince sits down with Latter Gay Stories for a unique one-on-one discussion about the actions and unintended consequences of the LDS Church's history with LGBT people and their allies.
In this episode we thoroughly discuss topics including:
- Why the LDS Church has doubled down against homosexuality.
- Is there a genetic component (born this way) to homosexuality?
- Policy vs. Doctrine: does LDS doctrine change?
- What was the impact of the November 2015 Policy on Mormonism?
- What does modern day scripture say about homosexuality?
- Q and A session from Latter Gay Stories listeners
- and so much more!
Kyle Ashworth and Greg Prince take a deep dive into the history of LDS tradition, history, and the messaging behind a topic that could be the most polarizing subject in the history of the Church.

Dr. Gregory Prince is an historian, author, and researcher who earned his graduate degree in pathology (PhD) at UCLA. He pursued a four-decade career in pediatric infectious disease research, pioneering the world's most current treatment for RSV (infant pneumonia). His love of history led him to write four books: “Power on High: The Development of Mormon Priesthood,” “David O. McKay and the Rise of Modern Mormonism,” “Leonard Arrington and the Writing of Mormon History,” and "Gay Rights and the Mormon Church: Intended Actions, Unintended Consequences."

“What does that tell your scientific brain?” Kyle, this was one of many great questions you asked Greg Prince. I’ve asked myself this many times in the last year or so while learning more about church history along with the events discusses in this interview. Now I too feel like I’m looking at a vase that has been superglued together trying to make it last. Greg Prince you have been a tremendous help through this process. You have continued to be an honest historian like Arrington, Quinn and few others. Keep up the great work: Kyle your podcast are very well done and you are also a great example of how we can be honest, hold our heads High and move forward with faith. Even if that faith looks different than it ever has before.

HIs book, "David O. McKay and the Rise of Modern Mormonism" is just wonderful reading -- one of the very best on LDS theologies.

Thank you for the trans and intersex inclusion in the discussion. It is critical to understand the unique situation that transgender and intersex people have within the context of the church. It is more critical to understand the unique situation that the church finds itself within the historic context of transgender and intersex people.

Kyle, great discussion with an intelligent, insightful author. Could you please provide the name of the book Greg co-authored that discusses homosexuality and the Bible? He briefly mentioned it during the interview.

One of my daughters (who experiences same-sex attraction), recently, gave a Church-sponsored presentation at the Church's Women Conference at BYU regarding same-sex attraction. Very enlightening!

Interesting speaker, but notice that neither men want to ask Heavenly Father any questions. In fact, both men are kindly but doggedly opposed to actual asking and real revelation. They want people to read into texts the tenets of the new (and false) religion of political correctness.

Since Mormonism is a religion obsessed with authority and stewardship, I would argue the men that should be asking Heavenly Father a lot more detailed and open-minded questions is those that claim to be prophets, seers, and revelators of the Mormon church. I would argue that their performance, especially in the last decade, shows that they haven't been asking questions and / or they are not very good at receiving answers.
