Jacob Lambert's story is about finding support from those around you. Raised in an active Latter-Day Saint family, Jacob’s world view shifted when he began to figure out that he was gay at 16 years old.
Despite his awareness of his sexuality, Jacob felt inspired to serve a mission and attend BYU. Little by little, as he let people in he felt more comfortable and confident in his identity and eventually decided to come out on Instagram in June of 2021.
As his religious views began to shift, Jacob decided that part of living authentically and honestly would involve transferring out of BYU and being more open about his beliefs. Throughout his journey, Jacob decided to let people in and received mixed responses, but decided to listen most to those who loved him unconditionally.

Once again your guest is an extraordinarily thoughtful, honest, kind, and decent person Their stories uplift me. I am grateful for what you do. This comes from a non-Mormon, ex-Christian agnostic.

For years, I have encouraged people to not consider a “coming out” process, but a “letting in”process instead. We refer to coming out of a closet. A closet is a dark place. Shame is dark. We convey a message that we are walking out of darkness and shame. When we reframe that as letting people in, it allows us to take control, and is the extension of an invitation. Invitations are about joy and enlightenment. I’ve never heard anyone else publicly speak to this other than myself. I was quite happy to see it mentioned.

I have known you a long time now, Jacob. I am really proud of how you have navigated this journey, figuring out who you are and who you want to be in this world. You are a beautiful person, and I love you so much!

I look at the sign that says "Visitors Welcome" and say "Members are not welcome". Mormon no more. Thank you for sharing your story. I wish you all the happiness. Remember: You matter. You are more than enough. I love you❤

What a wonderful man. I have such mixed feelings about the members Jacob encountered. The roommates using 'gay' as an insult (in the 2020s ?!?!?) who stopped when Jacob confronted him, the supportive mission presidents, and intolerant Holland (how can the individual members often be so kind when the leadership is so, so...) Jacob's honesty and grace come through so well

Jacob clearly did his level best to stay within his church until he could stand it no more and left. Evidently he is strong and was able to take this life-changing, drastic decision and he makes it appear much easier than it could possibly have been for him. He hides most of the pain and anguish he must have felt for years. Given current retrograde trends across the US, and particularly those concerning LGBTQs, one can hardly be optimistic that LDS will change soon. Meanwhile, testimonies such as Jacob’s are an essential lifeline for those tortured souls facing alone the battle between their essence and their religious beliefs.

Wow! Thankfully I joined the Catholic Church! My parish has an official LGBTQ+ ministry with $10k/year for outreach, education, etc.

I was beyond impressed by this characterful young man, although the subject, LDS, is foreign to me.

I enjoyed this episode and Jacob is a very nice young man. How long did he take to accept that he was gay after he realized that he was gay? What was that part of his journey like?

I'm totally enjoying your podcast/RU-vid channel. I grew up in Salt Lake City, from 3 to 16 years old. We were one of the 5 😀 non-Morman families in the state at the time. It's fascinating to me how deeply I relate to these videos. The LDS culture affected me pretty significantly, even though I was absorbing it from the outside, as a future gay guy.

Religion has caused more pain, suffering & death, second only to all governments, And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.
