Just started watching your videos.(I've been through the first three)I'm thankful that someone is willing to teach this as there are no schools in my area that offer such. I was wondering what your view was on the future(or non-future) of being a cb tech or even just an electronic technician for that matter?
@TheRadioShop
@TheRadioShop 7 лет назад
Hi Mathew and I am pleased you watch these videos. I often wonder about the future in this type of repair. We are a dying breed I am afraid, This is why I do the videos I make and share them freely with the public. In hope that younger folks will get an interest in vintage repair. This world needs more techs willing to learn and keep the hobby alive.

Buddy, I'm sure you noticed the LED's give a harsh or spotlight effect. I've found that if you take some fine steel wool or very fine sand paper and scuff the lens up on the LED's. It gives a little better soft light bulb look. Good video. Thanks!
@TheRadioShop
@TheRadioShop 6 лет назад
Yes. These should not do that. They were wide angle low profile. I did have to go back and scuff them up after burn in. Thanks

The Radio Shop So this is when the old desoldering machine died on you. You definitely got your money's worth out of it. Now that you did this receiver you will probably be doing a lot more of them. It doesn't take long for word to spread. Will have to rename to something like The CRF Shop. ;-)

Hi Sir, Greetings from Prague, Czechoslovakia. Love your video something very relaxing and soothing to wathc right before bedtime. Question for your Sir? I own a Crf 330 one with the tape deck. Well, bout a month back the digital display started flickering and then last week it went out finally and has not come back on. Analog which i fixed with by changing that round spool gear works fine. I get the stationgs but I miss my red light. Can I ask you what that might be before I pull it apart, or carry this beast around the corner to the radio shop. Too bad you are not right around the corner I have another and I would drop it off with you. The guy here well he mainly only works on Czech, Russian and German stuff. His jaw dropped that day when I cam in the door with this. I'm probably the only one in the country with one of these. I hauled it over here from the Netherlands. Anyway hope you are well and I'll watch your video for the 4th time soon. Greetings from central Europe.

With the new leds there is a concentration of light in the centre with very little at the edges. Have you tried rubbing the leds with sandpaper to give a more diffuse light?
@TheRadioShop

The LED's used are defused lens. Sort of frosted on the ends. Owner was happy anyway.

Hi and thanks for the video! Few years later it may be a bit late to ask but, i purchased the exact same replacement gears you have and i cant just press it on without damaging the gear's teeth. Did you use some kind of tools to do that or did it just slide in nicely for you? 1:04:00

It takes a bit of work. Make sure you clean off any flashing on the gear. They will go on.

Beautiful radios, bad metals and plastics in Asian radios, another example is the Taiwan built Zenith. No comparison to the quality of the US D7000Y made by Zenith in Chicago, good work friend.

i dont know if it happened in recording or transcoding but there are a few pretty long sections that are a mess of artifacting. just thought you might want to make sure theres nothing weong with your camera.

The Radio Shop i did see that but this isnt a resolution issue. the majority of the video is completely watchable but sections auch as 1:30:00 are a mess.
@TheRadioShop
@TheRadioShop 7 лет назад
I understand what you are saying. The un-edited video is completely fine. Remember, parts of this video are 2 months old now. That is how long it took to repair this unit. The problem is my video editor can not handle a file this large. Makes it start producing artifacts like that you are seeing. Until I get a better editor I am going to keep the videos under an hour or so.

You have to be part electronics technician and part watchmaker to work on that radio Buddy. You also need patience of a saint. You have to wonder what Sony was thinking about when they designed that thing and what their intended market was. I think they only made it for two years and the price was over $2K. Great job on it. I now know enough to know that I don't want one. 73 Doug.
