Great follow up video!!! I changed my pan to PPE after your last video as well as changing fluid to Amsoil signature fuel efficient (which is listed for ULV transmissions). My temperature never runs over 192, it also shifts much smoother than before.
My lZ0 trans temp would sit around 200 to 210. GM tech told me the trucks areo shutters were working against the trans cooler. His off the record advice because I live in FL was to remove the top two shutters... Truck now sits around 180 to 185 without much delay in heat up rate. It's something cheap to try that is completely reversible.
I towed from Milford Utah into Nevada thru Ely & Eureka yesterday towing my 7000k RV 150-170 up grades. PPE Pan, cooler and thermostat bypass and Triax Global synthetic ATF. Now camping at Spencer Hot Springs near Austin Nv.
Dude. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. 170 F is hot to your skin. Kinematic viscosity is tested at 100 C. Referring to AMSOIl tech specs, ATF doesn't flash until 234 C, 453 F. It's probable the OEM engineers pushed normal operating temperature for the transmission to 200 F. This likely reduces pumping losses and normalizes operation. Rejecting heat is a question of thermal power. Peak temperature is only a component of that. The extra mass adds dampening to temperature swings.
With only the PPE BYPASS installed as the only mod on the 10l80 lm2 . My question is, is the fluid level check procedure still between 167-176 degrees F. Or do I need to install the OEM valve to get the correct level. Any help thanks!
Is there a way to tune the bypass valve. Change springs or something like that to open sooner? My lm2 stayed at abot 185 on 1800 mile trip across south to The Carolina coast. Whats different between 22.5 and 23 lz0 on the trans cooler?
My question is when you installed the deep pan, did you remove the PPE bypass valve & go back to factory? I have the PPE trans cooler and the deep PPE transmission pan installed & my truck runs around 182°. I bought the PPE bypass valve but after rewatching your video, I’m concerned if I install it, the transmission may run too cool.
I have a 21' Lm2 and just recently started getting a low speed shudder at approx. 20 mph coming from a stop. Almost feels like a fish tugging on your bait at the end of a fishing pole.. Only at low speed under light load... Ever come across anyone else with this issue? I have a appointment this week, I'm thinking transmission related
Hey Demonworks, quick question. I have a 21 LM2, 15,000 miles on the dot and had a crank seal fail. Engine oil all over the skid plates and all around oil pan. Have you seen any crank seals fail? Also cold start, pulled oil fill cap off and saw what appears to be exhaust fumes coming out. Can that be normal with the EGR especially on a cold start or would that be considered excessive blowby? Thanks
Yea, front crank seal is common, there is also a plug in the front of the engine that could cause that as well. The fumes you are seeing is just standard blowby and nothing to worry about. Byproduct of the diesel engine design. Nothing to worry about unless it gets to a huge amount, which you would likely have a dead cylinder if that was the case.
You should always check the fluid at operating temp, but with the bypass valve that is tough to do. The fluid level rises with temperature so if you never get to high temps, it won't exceed the level that you set it at.
@@DemonWorks ok thanks. So if I fill it up cold so it dribbles out. Up to temp I should expect much more to come out when I open it back up? I’m being paranoid about getting the levels correct when putting on the new pan and doing fluid/filter. I don’t have the bypass right now.
I drove a new 2023 silverado with the diesel engine. But after hearing all the issues I wonder what the long term durability. Is all this stuff your doing void the warranty. I have driven a 6.0 F250 and loved the sound of the turbo. Love your channel new to your channel
Can you put a link up for that gauge you have installed on the left ? Thxs. Great video. I just installed the Ppe oil filter on my 2023 love the company.
here's some additional info on the gauge. i just installed the new stealth pod, not shown in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J3sYcwRxlhY.html
What kind of ambient temps are you subject to? My 23' never goes over 200 unless I'm hauling close to max tow capacity. I hauled my 20-yard dump trailer 60 miles today and it sat at 199 the whole trip. I'm just curious about the external factors.
I know, right? I'm honestly starting to think I have a bad bypass valve. Maybe it's not opening all of the way and creating a restriction / low flow. I will but a new one and install it after I make my big road trip coming up. Not towing, so I will be fine. I appreciate the kind words, the goal is to help share whatever I can to help whomever I can. Good news or bad news, i will share it!
We have a brand new GMC Sierra 1500 Denali and the transmission temp is always 190. Is that OK? My Ram 3500 dually has the Aisin transmission and it doesn’t go above 163 . Occasionally it does if it’s 90 degrees and I am towing 20,000 lbs or so.
your temps are good. Honestly, 160-210 is ok. My worry is if I am at 210 and then go to climb a grade and it shoots up uncontrollably. I would rather be in the 160/170's, personally.
Wow I just changed my tranny fluid and filter and I'm glad I did. Not sure I would want to go recommended intervals given what the fluid looked like. I think with these ULV fluids that towing a 7500lb travel trailer is extremely hard on the fluid and thus I will only go 50,000 km max on my changes not the 76,000 that GM recommends.
I am going to install the PPE pan and bypass valve in my 23 GMC 3.0. My question is how do I get all the old fluid out so I can get a full system of Amzoil?
It must be something with the differant powertrains, my 24 l5p runs at 158 all of the time and may hit 170 towing, now my 20 hd gas engine ran up in 200 for trans temp
Pretty painted pan increased fluid capacity by 4quarts… paired with the larger trans cooler, I think it’s a good combo, but I’ve only been doing this for 20 years.
125 max with bypass valve in place, well, 126. Now with the deep pan and stock bypass valve, back to 199, but I feel a little better about the temps now because I have the additional fluid . Long road trip coming up and will see what my temps end up at with an extended drive.
@tomkelly3896 If you have evidence and proof that it does nothing, I’d be interested in seeing that info. Please provide so you can help all of our educational efforts.
Oh well that’s a different comment than “does nothing”. Please post your evidence experience and results. Now you’re “saying deep pan extra fluid made no difference in temp” Made no different in temp? what about condition and longevity of fluid. What about takes longer to heat up? What about a stronger magnet on plug? If I have 4 quarts of oil and heat it up to 200° and then 8 quarts of oil and heat it up to 200°, I promise you the 8 quarts takes longer than 4 quarts to heat up to 200° All of these are factors in buying a larger pan with more fluids. Especially for those towing in in more difficult and harsh environments Refer to video time 6:33
I have the option to pull some shutters out if I want and the setup you mention should net me around 150 degrees based on some prior comments. You’re on the right track, I think.
im going to be adding a pan to my 22.5. I will also be changing the fluid to Amsoil. Im debating having the trans flushed with 20qts of Amsoil or draining the pan a few times. What do you think?
I have an rst Lm2 and it stayed at 198 constant. I live in Florida too. Once I did the ppe bypass valve delete and trans cooker I’m not at 130-160 way better temps tbh!
The engineers in my industry don’t know anything about what we actually do or how we do things all they know how to do is talk a big game because they read books from school still no real experience
