I've installed the PPE bypass on my 2021 LM2. The hottest temp I've ever seen was 193 while driving in heavy traffic in the Orlando area where I live. I usually see Temps in the 160's to low 180's range. I haven't seen a temp above 199 degrees since since removing the OEM bypass in favor of the PPE unit. I don't tow anything with the truck, I do load the bed with heavy objects from time to time.

I live in Florida. Average temp is about 60-70 in winter and summer is well above 90. I did both the trans cooler and bypass and my average temp is between 140-150 degrees now, I did not like the factor 198-210 trans temp degree especially being down here, definitely worth the money.

190 is way too hot for a transmission temperature I have seen thousands of transmission failures due to these kinds of high temperatures I’ve never seen a single transmission failure due to running them cold All of GM’s newer three-quarter ton trucks and up run at 143 to 155° transmission temperature using the same exact ULV transmission fluid as what’s used in the half ton 3.0L Duramax trucks

According to some guys' anecdote in a GM forum, it isn't an issue in the winter because the truck will close down the the grill shutters to get the trans temp to a reasonable operating temperature. I ordered one of these and will be see how it goes next week while we still have temps in the 30's where I'm at. Thought about just doing the larger trans cooler but that alone doesn't seem adequate and both seem overkill.

This is great content. I stumbled across the STL020 kit from Superior Transmission parts a while back and one vendor claims it's compatible with the 10L80 in the newer 2021's. Now that I see that the cooling packages different between the LM2s and LZ0s it probably won't fit my 2020. I liked the concept of it though because (temperature discussion aside) it maintains the safety protection of bypassing a plugged cooler which must be a feature of the stock bypass valve?

In the LZ0 trucks this ppe block eliminates the engine cooler or transmission heater this is what I’m calling it. Because of the 3 line setup on the factory valve block. This is why the fluid won’t heat up because the fluid is not going through the engine cooler/ heater
@DemonWorks
@DemonWorks Месяц назад
It actually doesn't eliminate anything in the cooler like what you are saying. It's still going through that cooler, it's just not circulating through it and looping at the bypass valve. The system would loop the fluid through multiple it's at 196 then allow some flow through the cooler. this just eliminated the multiple loops.

I’m looking at installing a lighter spring for the factory valve and see how that works. I want the fluid to heat up fast but keep the temperature around 150°
@kdougk3478
@kdougk3478 26 дней назад
Well the lighter spring in factory valve didn’t do much different maybe 5° less. Now it’s running around 190° that sucks and running the PPE block sucks too running at 120° and it takes forever to get there. The LM2 setup was perfect for this PPE block I guess GM found a way to fuck it up with this LZ0. If it had a different pill like a 140-150° in the factory valve it might work.

Have to admit I don’t know a whole lot about automatic transmissions, what is a good operating temp? Is there such a thing as too cool?
@DemonWorks
@DemonWorks Год назад
I haven't been able to find anything definitive on this specific transmission. The ford version calls for high temps, but even though this platform was built with Ford, I don't trust their side since their cars overheat the trans regularly on the track. I have always been under the teachings of the trans temp is typically 160-175. GM calls for 158 degrees when checking the fluid level So I feel that is the area of "good" up to 190 degrees. My prior LM2 trucks ran at 160-170 degrees. Stock 10 speed gas trucks have been shown to run in the 150-160's. So I would say operating above 150 is the minimum. Yes, it can be "too cold" and that is where I waited to install this until ambient temps picked up. i will monitor my temps over the coming weeks.
