What’s the secret to long-range shooting? The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind. Literally. Much of the challenge, variability, frustration and skill regarding long-range shooting relates to wind. Gravity is a constant, wind is not. Ironically, the “F-ing wind”, as we like to call it is probably one of main the things that keeps us coming back to the range to get better at shooting. A viscous cycle really. Tune in to this long-winded 10-min talk for tips and tricks on how you can make better wind calls.

New to your excellent podcast. Episode suggestion if you have not already done it. Each of the hosts bring to the table their first hunting rifle, and their other current favorite hunting or target rifle. Discuss cartridges and why you like each rifle. Thanks.

Mirage is the most accurate other than rain angle. The Eagleman technique for reading wind.

I can't believe this video has been out for over a year now, and I'm the only one commenting. A Mirage is NOT just an "optical illusion" When you see the Mirage you are seeing the actual heat rising and how the wind is moving it. It's NOT an "illusion", it's real. Lastly you need to be working to have a Mastery of the wind for accurate wind calls. That means you need to work to get comfortable shooting in the worst of the worst conditions WITHOUT waiting for the Lull. Sometimes you only have a moment to make the shot, so waiting on the lull could take way to long to settle down.

Unless your shooting a really long way or its really howling wind is not such a big deal. Iv seen dudes way over compensate for it alot. At distances of out to 400 yards with most decent hunting calibres would be like 20in adjustment in a 20mph right angle wind direction. Practice makes perfect IMO. Shoot in the wind and see for your self. If I'm holding off a critter for drop or wind I'm stopping and rethinking things and getting closer.
