Precision rifle shooting, hunting scenarios, bolt guns or AR’s - Integrating a quality tripod purpose-built for shooting (which Vortex not coincidentally offers) into your system is like having a portable bench and third arm that never gets tired. How they attach to your rifle, positioning of the tripod’s legs, positioning of your legs, shooting techniques to optimize the platform, and more, Nick Laufenberg helps us cover some super interesting ground. Listen in only if you’re ok considering a new purchase.

How about a talk about different shooting positions while hunting. Shooting off tri pods, bi pods, sticks including walking sticks. Also off bags and prone.

Same here .. even kneeling or sitting, .. and standing free arm, with iron sights, .. they do not do so well, though I admit my old eyes no longer do so well with the iron sights . I am more of stalk closer, or sometimes even back off if to close for the bullet using.

Perfect example for why you're shooting the wrong handed gun , trigger hand stays on grip off hand works the bolt and mag changes, scope doping etc.. Left hand rifles for right hand shooters!

Could you guys do a 300 AAC to 350 Legend comparison? Basically for short range (200 yards or so) hunting and target applications?

If you use a bipod properly, it's very much like using a tripod. Most people don't use bipod properly, and don't grip rifles properly without either. Freehand, you grip and twist in one direction with one hand, and grip and twist in the opposite direction with the other, to provide a solid locked mounting of the gun. With a bipod, if right handed, use your left hand with the palm over the buttock, so your left elbow provides the third leg, and you can provide fine siighting adjustments with your left hand. Most people grip the foreend with their left hand, and don't have the sighting control - that's what I used to do, until the SAS Sniping instructor onn my Qualified Advvanced Marksman Course put me right. A great guy we swapped lots of tips with each other, with me showing him how to use ground slope to speed up target acquisition and fire rapidly and accurately either from left to right, or right to left, depending on the slope, etc. Sadly we lost him to an IED in Afghanistan. ☹

Is the barrel crooked on that rifle or is it just me?

The further back you mount the more your movements induce wobble- mount it further forwards and then your mistakes aren't as amplified.

I never understood why ball heads have 40 to 60mm arca clamps.....I see camera set ups that have 70, 90 and even 110mm wouldn't more surface contact hold the rifle even more securely? Is there a reason 50mm is the most popular?

Is a tripod stable enough to serve a platform for sighting in purposes? Or stick with bags and bipod? Something like a .22 rimfire set up that weighs 16 lbs 😂😂😂😂

I wouldn't see an issue if you get the right one. My tripod setup is rated for up to 55 pounds.

And if you don't have a bench and the ground is too muddy, the tripod comes in very handy to sight something in. There's people that also use tripods to brace handguns, like they do from a bench. I used to think of it as cheating, but the older I get, the more I like placing accurate shots, on coyote for instance.

All good but a left handed rifle for right handed person is better for tripod shooting! Try it,
