Everybody was an ass, in the show, thats why they are the best in what they do. Derek was the best neurosurgeon of the show, you don't get that far withour being an arrogant ass. Same goes for Mark, and Preston and the rest. But Derek put his family always ahead when it came to it. While Mer was becoming stubborn in season 11.
