A short, but sweet video. If this place looks familiar, it's because it is, as I've filmed alarm videos here before, but this time, I'm filming as an inspector! As you can see, this is in a mall (whose name I will not mention in this video, but you can figure it out through my other videos). The parts of the mall that I filmed before had a mix of Wheelock MT4 signals and Edwards Genesis signals, but that setup is limited to one half of the mall. This half (the other half) has first generation Wheelock AS and ceiling-mount Exceder horn/strobes. As you can see, the ASs and Exceders do code-3. This surprised me quite a bit, as I had expected the ASs to be in continuous like the MT4s (which you can hear in the background in the beginning of the vid) but I guess when they did the upgrade (this part of the mall is the original part built in 1984, so these AS signals replaced older electromechanical signals) they also installed sync modules, which allow the ASs to put out code-3 (there's no coding option on the back of these signals; hooking them up to a sync module automatically has them doing code-3). Another thing that surprised me was that the Exceders were not in sync with the ASs. The area where the Exceders are is a lobby for what used to be a Lord & Taylor store (closed since last year when the company went bankrupt) and was redone in 2014, way after the mall upgrade was done, so it's not too unexpected that the Exceders and ASs aren't in sync, but you'd still think that they would have made it that way.
The way the mall's system is set up is that each store/retail space has its own fire alarm system and each system is set to trip the mall system should it activate (this is why the alarms at this mall go off so frequently). However the system has some serious issues, which I won't go into on here because our inspection is still incomplete. In the meantime, enjoy the vid!
P.S., the reason for the darkness and lack of people is because we did this test at 5:30 AM; well before sunrise and before the mall opened.
