If you can not tell, this video was filmed back when black Friday 2021 happened and I just got around to editing it in July of 2022. It is a solid little device for emails, web browsing, and content consumption.
FYI, the reason why the design looks good is because this is a turnkey reference design from Intel. A ton of engineering efforts went into it, so these factories just take the reference and copy it as is.
My mom bought me this last night. It's a nice lil laptop. I initially wanted a bigger laptop but this was perfect for when I travel because I can slide it into my purse. I'm moving to Japan in June and this will be perfect on the plane.
I got one at Walmart two days ago. It was the blue one and it was $199. It came with windows 11 on it. I love it. I never had a 2 in 1 laptop before and it's perfect for me. Great review.
I have a co-worker who has this exact model and it seems like the "F" key is stuck. Not always, but the majority of the time. The weird thing is, if I go into the BIOS, it doesn't happen (for example, if I go to set a BIOS password). How hard is it to replace the keyboard on these (I am an IT tech)? The physical key itself feels fine and definitely doesn't feel like it's sticking.
really good video. I have another question.... some keys don't work on mine... would it be the keyboard? - btw I bought 2 of these when they first came out ... his and hers
Got a closeup of the M.2 pads? Anybody tried adding the plug? With 500GB drives at $50, this could be handy as a tiny media server, or just a way to review and back up photos in the field.
the laptop is easily opened just remove the screws on bottom and you have instant access to battery, motherboard, etc the battery is replaceable just unplug and screw off the protective shield battery model is NV-3978115-2S 5500mAh 4.18Wh 4-cell lithium-polymer battery, 8.7V
Got one and the battery was losing charge on the charger. Wouldn't hardly charge past 43%, and the battery life drained in seconds. I charged it for a few hours. Did a reset and I guess it died when it was reinstalling windows. Now it's stuck in a boot loop and I cannot figure out how to get it into recovery mode.
Since the hard drive and motherboard is basically one unit, how can I go about recovering the hard drive? Got this for my wife and one of our puppies destroyed it while we were at work. Doesn’t turn on despite being fully charged. Any help with this?
did you check the mini HDMI on them? mine don't seem to work. I bought 2 of these... mine are Green and Purple :) have them for about 2 years... my wife's one is great. i dropped mine early on and I cracked it
I recently setup windows 10 on my Gateway GWTC116-2BL. However, after the installation facing audio problem in Built-in Stereo Speakers. Sound icon showing "No audio output device is installed". tried to install different audio software but not working. However, when i connect to Bluetooth speaker i can hear sound. Dont know what the problem is. Any solution?
I wanted to see if the RAM was upgradable on this model since I got it as a gift a few years ago. It’s a shame it’s not but this video was very informative nonetheless! Thank you!
What are the RAM specs to this? I know it's 4gb lddr4, but i want the specifications on it. Is the ram upgradable? 1 stick? or is there two slots? If o what is the exact model number for them so I can upgrade mine?
Very nice and valuable video.. Great job.. Can you please advise if actually someone with relevant knowledge can change /upgrade storage to a an M.2 nvnm...?.. As I really need the additional storage.. Many thanks in advance.
There is no M.2 slot inside. The 64gb storage that this device comes with is all you get unfortunately. Thankfully there is a USB-3.0 port on the left side, so that should allow pretty decent speeds when using an external SSD/HDD.
The Asus L210M which is very similiar to this one (minus touchscreen but has usb c) does have an m2 slot. I slapped a cheap nvme in and it became my work computer, does everything office related pretty snappy.
Bought 2 of these for my business, out of the box and factory wrapper, battery was completely bad on one of them! Wouldn't take a charge, the second you unplugged the cord, BAM it went black. The other one seems to be working ok. So, is the battery easily replaceable once you get the back cover off?? I'd rather replace it than send it back (a hassle). Idc if it costs $100 for a replacement battery, I got these super cheap on black friday. Thanks for any info!
I got the exact same one but black for $200 it won’t turn on wanna get it repaired but I already know that it’ll cost basically as much as the laptop itself
Greetings, I have that same laptop and I have problems with the touch screen driver, could you make a copy of the drivers for them and share the links?
@@monserratgutierrez4872 Hello, unfortunately they did not give me an answer, I visited many RU-vid channels and I asked the same question, some answered me but did not help me solve my problem. :(
@@monserratgutierrez4872 I had no choice but to forget about the touch and use it as a normal laptop. Very sad not even the manufacturer answered me. :(
@@MrLink129 how r thos laptops thinking to get one for my self but wonder if its good enough to download system software update for my ps5 just need a laptop i have a usb, pls reply back
@@MrLink129 oh im not thinking to play ps5 on it but found out it can play xbox on it lol its a pretty good lil laptop but only gonna use it for transfering files to my ps5 for updates or if my ps5 gets stuck on safe mode.
Damn man , I got this laptop for a very very good price 50% off basically and I was sitting here wanting to embark on a new project and just maybe throwing a slightly better CPU a little bit more ram and if it was even possible But guess I can’t :( … no full size 4090 fir the little laptop 😢
Depends on if you're fine with streaming games or actually installing and playing. I play Xbox gamepass on it just fine, it runs smooth and no lag. But the minute i tried playing one of my games installed from Steam, it was pure trash lol
I guess old games like Counter Strike or Half Life can run decently, also retro console emulators. Don't think it can handle recent heavy games but maybe it can do lighter 2d ones like Hollow Knight.
Being a closet geek, from the beginning, I always hated this brand but bought it one day when I had to have a computer because it was the cheapest thing there. WOW!!! It has been dropped, dragged, and had a glass of water spilt on it, and like a Timex, after drying out, it keeps on ticking!!! Blazing fast, it has been the most reliable, dependable laptop I've ever owned! It has a cracked screen now from one of the drops, but didn't loose a pixel! Buy it! You won't be sorry!
Unlock the CPU Install your favorite lightweight Linux distro/desktop environment (Get an external Wi-Fi card 🥴) And you've got an extremely inexpensive daily driver with cartoonishly long battery life.
Running in S MODE meaning you cannot install *A*N*Y*T*H*I*N*G* except friom the microsoft store and the only way to remove S mode now is ti boot to reovovery, open a command line, run regedit, open the correct hive file, edit the correct entry and .... yea that is BULLSHIT. I wiped my machine and put linux mint on it and now once again I OWN MY LAPTOP,
This is about all Gateway make anymore, I use to like them, but this computer is just awful. Sorry to be the bad guy but if you go to watch something, and try to open more than 2 tabs is will just freeze. It's snappy if you're NOT using google chrome, which takes up all it's resources. The touch screen is not very good, the track pad works, then freezes, as does the whole unit. So if you're thinking it's going to be quick for all that you do. Especially on sale for $99, do the math. You certainly get what you pay for. Read the real reviews of people coming from a "real" laptop. You'll see what I mean. Also the speakers aren't even nearly as loud as my Iphone, and with Bluetooth it cuts out quite a bit as well.**
you can use it for streaming games onto yes but not native game playing the network adapter is not very fast (wireless n) and there is no ethernet port I recommend buying usb network adapter or usb ethernet adapter for stable Internet connection
Works great for cloud gaming. Not a very good game machine for installed games though. The very tiny emmc storage is a very big problem unless streaming stuff. The non upgradable storage is the biggest weakness for these laptops! You can add a SD card but they are just not good enough for much more than file storage. It doesn't have 5ghz wifi but that is easily fixed by a cheap 5ghz usb dongle.
SD cards would be fine if this didn't have the cheapest possible card reader. Maxes at 25mb/s read 20 mb/s write. A good flash drive in the 3.0 port is much faster
