I am so glad you mentioned a resource for why not to have pigs near your garden. Not only have I raised pigs for many many years, but I moved to TX from CA where E coli is a major problem. Over years the big farmers learned it was the feral hogs running through their crops and pooping that was causing the problem. We heard about it in 4H, FFA and from Ag. agencies and it was common practice never have your hogs around your food crops and always downstream from your water source. There are very specific reasons their poop is really bad which we learned also. New homesteaders should know this just to safeguard their families. I'm so proud of you for looking for scientific resources and not just any source. Thank you for sharing!!

"How to have a green thumb without an aching back" by 1960s organic gardening guru Ruth Stout. BEST gardening book ever! Made me a gardener since my first reading in that era and I'm still an organic gardener today as I near my 80th birthday. Ruth Stout gardened well into her 90s and was able to do so because of her methods. No nonsense. Straight forward. Full of humor. Find a copy for yourself, and any of her other gardening books, if you can! You won't regret it!

Thank you so much for sharing your favorite books with us! 💚 That's really helpful to navigate through the abundance of literature which can sometimes be very difficult.🙃 In addition to that, I would be really interested in your methods for planning your garden or growing a particular vegetable in detail for example. Meaning for one vegetable you show us through one season: how you plan your beds and the neighborplants, how you prep the beds, when you sow and transplant your this vegetable, how you support them growing and harvest them and maybe some ideas how you preserve them. I know that's a lot of work to do and I understand if that's too much to ask for, but it would be definitely super helpful and interesting especially according to the size of your garden 😊 I hope you understand my comment because I'm not a native English speaker 🙈 Thank you very much for all of your amazing videos which I do love the most! 💚 Lots of love from Germany! all of these books sound great! i just ordered the pest and insect guide because that's what I'm struggling with lately. Great rec's! I can share one book that without a doubt, is the most comprehensive soil guide, amendment techniques, etc..."True Living Organics" By The Rev; it's not necessarily about growing "vegetables" lol....but definitely worth a look regardless of whether or not you intend to grow pot. I go back to it again and again for a resource whether I'm diagnosing a leaf color issue/needs fertilizer, possibilities of soil contamination. Emphasis on living soil, myco life. It has loads of info that is applicable to growing anything.

If you want to grow your own wheat, I honestly don't know what to recommend for harvesting. I know that there are some Asian countries that have combines with a really small footprint, but I imagine it's really expensive. If you want to harvest by hand though, the RU-vidr Vegetable Academy made a budget home thresher that was pretty intriguing

I really like Will Bonsall's book. It's a next-level gardening book. Once you have the vegetables mastered, he takes you to the next step. He has such great interplanting ideas: like pole beans on sunflowers. And as a vegetarian, it's so awesome to read a homesteading book that isn't all about raising animals. I found the Holistic Orchard to be frustratingly short on direct step-by-step advice. I have read the whole thing, and I still feel like I don't know anything to solve my problems in my fruit trees.

Also I like to give advice about preserving food, it is that if not having salt for that it is fine. But if with salt, it is better not to consume too much as it contain much salt and we all know this is not healthy, especially for people have high blood pressure. Yea, just a reminder.

When you said compost isn't idela to grow in I became more deeply confused as I watch Charles Dowding channel and all he does is "No DIg Gardening" in compost only, with incredible results.
