Jim Baird Adventurer - 11 Days Solo Wilderness Camping in the Arctic Watershed - Moose Lake & Campfire Cooking Walleye Fish! On a wild camping trip, after a bushwhack in the canoe through remote, wildlands creek, I finally reached a far-flung wilderness lake and the North French River by canoe, outfitting in tow. Finally in the river, the major portage was behind me. Now I solo whitewater and paddle the first rapids of the expedition alone in the wilderness. Northern Ontario fishing for Brook Trout and Walleye along the way caught me nothing which was concerning. Right as I reached Moose Lake, I experienced a great Moose sighting when I spooked a Cow and Calf Moose and watched them swim across the lake. Then, unsure if the fishing would be any good, I took some casts with my Mepps 4 and started catching Walleye, a lot of Walleye! I caught my limit quickly and it was time to find a campsite. While searching, I found an old hunting blind and a big double rainbow appeared overhead in the drizzling rain. Then it was time for an epic fish fry and I cleaned fish for a lot of over the fire cooking. A heavy thunderstorm caught me by surprise and soaked me. I set up a tarp in a panic and had to cook while sheltered under the tarp. I stayed up late into the night eating round after round of fresh fish. It was delicious.
On this trip, I'm prepared with proper outfitting, including trail tape and ready to canoe whitewater and portage. This film series is about bushcraft survival in the woods where I’m truly alone in the wild, exploring and fishing Northern Ontario by canoe. Beginning on a remote river I reach via a forest access road, I solo wilderness travel to reach the advanced level whitewater of the North French River. I then paddle on the Moose River, completing the trip some 330 kilometres later in the community of Moosonee where I catch the Ontario Northland Polar Bear Express train. On this adventure, I solo rapids, catch Walleye and Northern Pike, trek, paddle and camp. What’s better than catching wild fish for a catch and cook over the fire in the wilderness? I also find a remote, trapper’s cabin, run multiple whitewater rapids, undertake long, bushwhack portages and see a lot of wildlife including Moose sightings.

Cool that you saw moose at Moose Lake. Once when kayaking on Lake Huron we camped on Fox Island and had a fox run through camp, then we paddled past Eagle Island and an eagle flew over. When we paddled past Crooks Island we decided not to stop.

Jim. You are skilled beyond belief and take on challenges that are incredible. I've been a canoe fisherman for decades and I noticed that you do what most everyone does; reel in too much line, net the fish, then release line. Here's a handy tip; never reel in any more line than the length of your rod. You simply raise the rod and glide the fish into the net.
@JimBairdAdventurer

Hey Jim, I love your adventures ❣️. I wish I had the balls to go out there, (Alone!) and do what you & your brother do, and your brave wives💗 I live in Maine, and have gone camping here several times in my life, but never as a child. Years ago I was dating this man that took me camping, at Moose Lake in Maine! So beautiful, and frightening! We were looking for a cabin to stay at, but he wasn’t sure where his friend cabin was. While we were driving all through the woods, we stumbled on a herd of moose! The first time I ever saw moose, giant beastie❣️. The boyfriend (Mose) started beeping the horn! I was terrified, some of the moose we’re looking back! I know nothing of moose, but I know that was the wrong thing to do!😜 I was never so angry at a man! We’re no longer together, but we did find the cabin the next day. There was a snake skin on the bed, thank Hod I’m not afraid of snakes 🐍 Saw a Fisher, thought it was a large cat! And plenty of 🐻 poop, and dears on the way out💗 I still go camping, but with a smarter man, and we sleep in a 🏕, but at a State Park, we’re working ourselves to wild camping 😊 Stay safe, free & adventurous ❣️🙏🏾

I think God was rewarding you for going through all that shit to get there. Moose,rainbow an when you started catching those walleyes I thought I hope he doesn't throw them back! Those are my favorite. I could have eaten all of them too. When I was a kid and came to Canada my grandma would get all of us fishing license so we could keep more fish. She'd fry them all up an what was left over she'd rap them in paper towels and set them on the counter. I'd get up in the morning and eat fish and if I didn't eat them all I'd take them out in the boat because I always got hungry fishing. We ate fish every day. When you guys catch 1 fish for 2 people I think well dam I would have starved! I only weighed 106 pounds and I think I could eat 2 fish.
