Great video today ! Lots of useful tips. I love to read also. I go to the church ' 5 dollars a bag' book sales where I can buy a paper bag filled with dozens of books ! One of my goals for 2024 is to learn how to make homemade bread and tomato sauce products.

Those are great goals! We had so many tomatoes last year from the CSA and friends (ours were all eaten by deer) and I cooked a bunch of them down into a pasta sauce. I need to learn to can but I just reused jars I had from other things and stored it in the fridge.

Thank you! I think knowing your priorities helps you spend money more mindfully and also having a budget helps you determine your priorities.

We put in some tomato plants in '23 and actually got some tomatoes that cost less than $5 each; those plants were tough as you name the condition and they suffered it. A game changer for us was to zip tie 6' tall dog kennel panels with gates on the end - for the deer, the dogs, and what turned to out to be a kid problem too. Our panels were collected over time from peoole getting rid of one to a few to a run. Some are rusted and not adequate to hold a dog, others are in pretty good condition.

That sounds like a great option. We're considering t posts and a mesh fencing. I'm hoping it's something that will last many seasons.

We often have Master Lists for projects/ to-do's, general buying, and even category buying. There is on limit to these Master Lists in terms ofmhig, small, many, cost, etc... We simply add to the end of the list then draw a straight line through what has been done. If a page has only a few items remaining, we write what is missing at the end and toss the page. From the Master List we select items to create an actual list; buying or projects. I aim to pick a mix of inexpensive or less time consuming items and more imvolved items. Sometimes we run an intermediate list of a good 20 items and then an actual list of 5 items drawn from the intermediate list. The mix of lists acknowledges those wants yet draws down on decision making and establishing priorities.

That's a great idea!

Our re-usable grocery bags have thier "home" behind the back seat of the truck. We leave them in the truck, wheel our groceries to the truck in the basket, and load the bags truck side.

Oh that's a neat idea. We keep ours by the door and I keep an extra one in my car all the time. You never know if you might need one while you're out!

In '22 we bought the smalledt and next size up , Walmart, Lifetime brand Yeti copies coolers. Long story short: they were a new product line, cheaper than today in general, the skus were attached to a cheaper yet product line, the manager was not nice to the other half nor his subordinate clerk, and the other half bought 2 for about 50% of what he had hoped to pay for 1 just as fast as he could; we adjusted the spending budget for this unplanned purchase. I looked on line summer '23 and the price for the smallest had climbed to $119. Knowing how well it works, if we dint aleady have one we would still, consider the $119 worth the savings it could provide. We use it to pack food for our multiple trips per month we are gone fir upto hours rathrr than eat out; real food of any type you would take out if the fridge in real food storage containers. Also, it enables us to grocery shop refridgerstion needing perishables at will.

Sounds like a good and useful purchase. Definitely makes sense to adjust the budget around something like that.
