@J G Could you elaborate on that? That stuff fascinates me. I know US military helmets are bulletproof but after impact can leave an indent so big that you can get brain damage. I worked for a bulletproof helmet manufacturer here in Austria. They are made from titanium and won't budge as hard as steel does, saving the wearer from brain trauma. Is it something similar with motorcycle helmets?
@@BEN-ys6gu are you asking if a bullet hitting a helmet is the same as the gun firing the bullet being attached to the helmet? If so, no; a gun is far heavier than a bullet, and moves considerably less. As a simple comparison, an uncontrolled firearm could kick maybe 6 feet through the air when fired, but the bullet can travel miles. Also, the gun being significantly larger means the energy is spread over a much larger object, so a bullet hitting a helmet will impart far more energy to a much smaller area that a handgun that was sent flying.
@Samuel Prince Wirting lkie tihs "wroks" too, but I tinhk yol'ul fnid it dsitacrtnig, or am I wnorg? Aynnoe who has a sutdeid porgarmimng can tlel you taht it deos not wrok "tcehinalcly" at all.
I haven't seen him open a lock with canned/compressed air. Anything's possible with LPL. A pneumatic rake perhaps(canned air with a modded WD-40 straw, sorta like sewer pipes and their strategically placed holes.).
But he has had Deviant Ollam on the channel before, who has opened locked doors with a can of compressed air. Have a look at his "I'll let myself in" talk
I do think the idea of having the wheels stop instead of labeling them is smart, so getting the key requires constant attention while someone is opening it (not just peeking at the combination once in the right moment). Too bad it was implemented with a flawed mechanism...
a) you can count the clicks back to the top b) why would you bother breaching this lock a 2nd time? would the owner be dumb enough to reuse it once they found out the stuff it was protecting was stolen?
@@pierrecurie I'm pretty sure they mean with this lock it's harder to surreptitiously watch someone who knows the combination put it in to find out yourself compared with a normal combination lock where you can just look at the end result, but yes you could in fact walk over and count the clicks back up to the top to determine the numbers.
pierrecurie Counting clicks might be harder than you think... you might hear a total of 12 clicks, but allocating then between 4 wheels might be tough. This exact point is actually discussed in the locks patent application. 👍
I was in a laundromat on vacation, bored out of my mind waiting for the laundry, when I saw a small modern lock that seemed like it might operate on exactly this mechanism. It was locking some kind of fuse/switch box. I had just been on a LPL binge before my trip, so even though I didn't have much experience with locks, I got it into my head that maybe I could play around with it since traffic was extremely low and there were no cameras. Using the techniques I picked up from LPL, I had the thing open in less than 2 minutes without tools! I have undeniably learned something from this channel. Naturally, I put the lock right back on and scrambled it! Too bad the lock wasn't tougher, because I went back to being bored very quickly. Made me wish that there were at least some false gates...
Unless they even the playing field and out right say the challenge was to pick the lock or solve the puzzle, methinks picking would be against the rules of Survivor.
This is one of those locks where the actual security of it isn't what's fascinating, just the mechanism and design. It's simple but very novel. I like this one a lot.
I'd honestly really enjoy a lock like this for when I'm at work. I might not need insurence on my snacks, but when there's dodgy lighting in the locker room everything helps.
This kind of content is awesome!!! I've been playing with bad locks since I was a kid and have been able to pick combination locks like this by feel since I was 10. It makes me laugh and worry about my safety when relying on locks for doors and equipment. I stay as far away from number combo locks as much as I can
Major respect to ya!! I love vids that are all one cut 😂 Idk ig it just makes it seem like he actually tries for his videos unlike all the other RU-vidrs
Came across one of those a while ago. The whole number of clicks concept blew my mind. 🤯Hahaha. Awesome to see one in such good shape. And thanks for all the info on it!
Sesamee 4-digit combination locks, _e.g.,_ their model K436, stop at "0000" when the wheels are rotated backwards, allowing one to open them in the dark by counting clicks when the wheels are rotated forward. The similar-looking Master Lock copies of the Sesamee design lack this useful feature, so they can only be opened with adequate lighting.
This reminds me of my first bike* lock. I left the combination sticker on it becouse I rearenged and rotated some of the disks. Never remembered the right combination becouse it was faster to open if you pull and blindly rotate to a gate. And it was good fun looking at someone that is trying to put the combination.
Just made my first video picking a master lock tough under fire. You might be able to shoot it but it can be picked in a few seconds. Thanks for your videos I truly enjoy them and have learned a lot from you.
@@miniwaern in this case, it asbolutely does. Imagine he rumbling about for 9 minutes and on the 10th minute he actually got to do what hes supposed to (rig it open)?
I remember being a kid in the 90s doing the same thing on those cheap combination chain bike locks. Some kids used to swap locks around on the bike rack. Some just stole them. I just learned to get a better lock. First locks i ever picked... good ol days
Cool. Basically the same as those cheap modern 4 digit bicycle chain locks. I used to pick them for fun when I was a kid then put them all back on different bikes, or pop the retainer out and rearrange the numbers and put it back on. Or if feeling particulate evil, get a bunch of em pop the retainers and mix and match numbers before putting em all back on random bikes. It was fun watching other kids at the bike rack when class let out.
Reminds me of my old bike lock, if you pulled on the chain it had the exact same thing of being able to feel the wheels click into place. First two were really easy to feel, third was a bit tricky but still there, and well, you knew you'd gotten the fourth one 'cause the lock opened then.
I have 2 Master locks. The look like brass luggage locks with 3 number combination. It resembles a 627D but with only 3 dials. They are much harder than one would expect to open by feel.
i know im about a year late but one thing you could do is get little gears that fit in there, and cut out notches that match the lug on the brass bolt used to unlock the shackle, this would allow a 100% custom setup, meaning you could even set it between clicks if you wanted to be a bit cheeky, this also allows the use of false gates
That's actually a pretty cool design. Needed better tolerances and/or false gates to make it at least a "little" trickier to brute force, but I like the idea.
Hey LockPickingLawyer. Love your vids. So much that I’m getting a lock picking starter set for my birthday. Just came to your latest video to find your Amazon affiliate link for your recommended kit and... you don’t have one? How come?
You said in past videos that you are in Maryland. Check out the band Angel du$t. They are from Baltimore im pretty sure. I love your channel. Show local music some love!
I have a combination lock that I can open behind my back, as the shackle clicks out when the dial falls into either a true or false gate, however the true gates make it move out more, and the are spaced false (3 clicks) true (3 clicks) false (4 clicks), so you don't even have to look at it
This kind of lock could be shielded with a rectangular metal tube, which leaves very little room for tensioning and manipulation at the same time. Since it's not necessary to see the dials, good covering is possible.
Could you please make a video how drill protection works in action? I'm interested how rods and ball bearing defeat drilling, but lack necessary equipment. My guess is dulling the drill bit, but how effective are they? Is in place hard rod enough or does it need to be lose and rotate? Thank you for the content!
This is kind of neat. There have been lots of times that I would have wanted to open a combination lock at night without having to stuff a dirty flashlight in my mouth.
