Wish we could go back to locks like this. Surely LPL has upgraded his skills since these days, and there's plenty of high sec locks available around the world to pick and gut. More DOM cylinders like the twinstar, high sec FAB locks, a few EVVA cylinders, the new Assa/Ruko Twins/Tritons, or even some Fichet, Bricard or other 'exotic' high sec locks. There's so much to choose from, and LPL has the skills, it would be nice to see some really cool locking mechanisms featured again, rather than cheap commercial junk all the time. Still love the vids, but miss the old content for sure.

Agreed, there are some great pickers out there like Yabende and Retep Reyem picking the exotic high security locks, but LPL has such a great way about him I'd love to see him take a few down.

This and the MCM or MGM were brought to me curtsy of Wayne Winton. Very interesting guts. Glad you enjoyed it. I still need to find time to get to my half.

Lot of pins in your tray ;-) Interesting lock and very nicely picked. It must be a complex process to manufacture the lock. Don't know it that effort pays off security-wise.
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 8 лет назад
+Potti314 No, it doesn't really pay off for the effort IMO. But it would be nasty if they serrated those pins, added countermilling, etc.

Now those are pins my friend. I just love new inovations with what evilness that can be added to really any lock. lol Especially that master wafer with the serration on it. Haha if you have to master the lock then put as much security as possible with it. Cheers!

Thanks -- these are fun locks to pick. Challenging, but attainable.

Had DOM locks on our overseas dorm rooms when I was stationed in England long ago. They all had a super sexy key with smooth as butter operation, I love those locks.

I love the profile dimple cylinders with a horizontal key hole. Especially those made by DOM.

Hi Harry, Unusual lock, unusual pins, at least from where I come from. I like the fact you gut these Euro cylinders after expertly picking them. Excellent! I liked that spool master wafer - master wafers usually mean the lock is easier to pick - not this one! Great job! Regards, Brian.
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 8 лет назад
+Brian Hignett Thanks -- it's unusual here as well, and it's always fun to pick on something new (except for the Bilock... that's just frustrating right now ;-P ). As for the master wafers, I also thought that mini spool was very neat, but if you pick the lock right, it will never come into play. My theory on master wafers is that I don't mind finding them in the core after a pick. If I find them in the lock body, however, that means that I missed a shear line and would not have opened the lock absent the mastering.

+LockPickingLawyer Same thinking here. Good luck with the BiLock - you’ve got datagram’s PDF on beating them, right? (:

+Simon Klein I did, but it isn't much practical help for pickers... Right now, I'm taking the same approach that I took on similarly operating slider/sidebar locks, Like the EVVA DPI and the TuBAR. Step 1 - get each slider into any gate (false or true), Step 2 - differentiate between the false and true gates by feeling for locked up sliders (as opposed to ones with a tiny, tiny bit of play). Not sure if that will eventually bear fruit, but I think I'm getting closer. We will see.
@klepas
@klepas 8 лет назад
+LockPickingLawyer I haven't been able to do this with mine, but consider trying BB's learning technique: remove 1 sidebar entirely (and/or pins) and work up that way?
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 8 лет назад
+Simon Klein I can't do that without (minor) damage to the core. This is the QC variant of the lock, and everything is crimped/staked together. I would have to break the crimps to remove a sidebar.

I think the key pins are chiseled because the two shear lines are off center and would have to be rotated to the correct angle to follow the plug. picking wouldn't be a problem because the key pins will fall back down and the drivers are being held up by the cylinder edges. but with the key in, holding the pins up, if they weren't angled correctly they would dig into the lock body and seize.
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 7 лет назад
I'd have to go back and look, but I don't think it's possible to rotate the key pins... that's why they are tear drop shaped.

We had those locks on our dorm rooms when I was stationed in England, replacement key costs were insane. I loved Dom keys though, much less threatening than the Medeco's that inundated the base.

Picked up a Dom ix (w/key) mortice cylinder, still beyond my ability you make it look easy.

Don't worry... you will get there. These locks are not easy at all.

cool, I was always scared to play with this DOM, but out of the naughty box it will come :D ...... well right after the DOM Saturn that is - have you played with one?
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 8 лет назад
+vde This lock was odd... the first open took a little while, then after that, no open took more than 2-3 minutes... sometimes far less. I guess there's a learning curve on picking those narrow-ended pins. I've never touched a Saturn, so can't really speak to it
@solidus3168

Oh so YOU are the naughty box guy. I think you should try some of these again. I think you could pick them.
@jdrissel

Are those master disks on the pins with the narrowed driver pins? If so, check if the narrowed driver pins could catch in the holes on the other side of the cylinder... That would make the lock effectively un-bumpable, tricky to pick, and any such attempt would be evident since the lock would jam when bumped and if picked to the wrong shear line. Not only that, but it would be much harder to pick those tumblers to the correct shear line that to the one that would jam things... There is a recent patent for that feature, this could be prior art.
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 7 лет назад
I'm not sure that I totally follow your question, but I can say that I've picked quite a few of these, and I've never had a driver pin from one side catch a hole in the core from the other side. I hope that helps.

Great pick! I just bought one of those and look forward to picking it. I wonder if the master wafer in #8 really was a spooled one or rather two of them stacked and glued together by grease.

Question for you sir, I have those picks and apart from a polish up have you modded them any?? Also how do you choose which dimple pick to use,is it what ever fits??. Thanks in advance for your reply and as always great video😘😘👍🔓🍻🍻
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 8 лет назад
+Pick Beard The picks in this video are not modded. I do have a set of heavily modified Goso dimple picks that are currently out on loan. I taper the flag edges. Round every corner. Round out the shaft. Polish to mirror shine. The mods make a HUGE difference.

cool lock !! would those chiseled key pins interact with the key in some way ? or probably not because they don't turn?
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 8 лет назад
+Lukes Locks Thanks... They simply ride over the key in the normal manner one would expect in a dimple lock... no twisting is possible with the asymmetrical pin/chamber design.
