Awesome review Bill! Thanks for showing off my picks. I think the one you called the "breach" is the mid rise, and the deep hook is "Extendo Gem" on my site. Glad you are enjoying them!

Those look great! I think I'll need a couple of .013s for my DOMs. Those have really nasty keyways.

ScottySez. Good work! It says a lot when Bill gives your workmanship a good review. Your picks do look really slick, I may have to order some just to add to the collection.

Better do it fast because he states on his website that he already has a delay in making them and he is doing it first come, first server. Would be really nice if he made a really nice set of Hooks, Rakes and Tension Tools for Bill to do an official review and give-away.

the hole was just for looks only, I actually put it in there so I wouldn't mix it up with others. 5 was under cut at well. 6 I has a screw break off so I just went with it. the partial spring was in 3 for the center pin

I've got one of those .013 hooks along with a Houdoo and a mini hook and rake set all from Scott at Rare Element lock picks, he does some great work and the hook allows you to easily pick right between the warding.

Man you are growing so fast lately. Congratulations on your growth rate. And on those. 013 picks... The shotgun is also a great defeat for the schlage keyways. Happy Pickin!!!

pin 3 was actually meant for a bit larger pick. I did not think about Bill using a super thin one. You should notice on the key, there is a small track in the 6-5-& 4 that was meant for the dimple to slide in then drop down in the hole. with a standard pick it would cause the inner pin to be pushed up and caught in the counter milling and Grove. but oh well back to the drawing board. Right now I'm doing everything by hand since I lost most everything in a house fire a few months ago.
@caveman123ization
@caveman123ization 7 лет назад
I think you still did a great job with the lock. Bill got a little lucky; there was a lot of thought and effort put into it. Wish you the best in recovering from the fire.
@userPrehistoricman

How does it happen that locks that have had so much attention can be that easy to pick? Or maybe not easy... just fast?
@whitesmotoadv
@whitesmotoadv 7 лет назад
Prehistoricman I think he just got lucky with the custom picks. I designed this around .015 to .020 picks which would have activated the pin in pin which would have prevented the opening. But it's all good, more knowledge for my next lock which should be very interesting
@ExStaticBass
@ExStaticBass 7 лет назад
To me that looked like electrical solder in the bottom of the bible on pin 6. That would explain why things were sticking at that point. I would imagine that if that is in fact solder it would have wicked up the inner sides following the flux thus narrowing the opening a bit.

You are my Idol. You taught me how to pick and you're constantly making me a better lock picker with every video you put out.. Im picking a bunch of different locks now and 3 months ago I couldn't pick a cheap $2 Chinese lock. For god'd sake I couldn't even pick a Master No.3! Anyway, keep up the good work! Stay safe stay legal!

Bill because of some of the recent vids you've posted I have made changes to my everday carry set. I've added a couple of .015 and .018 picks to the four .025 picks I was carrying. I have a Schlage that easily accepts a .025 pick but also have one that does not. That's why I added the thinner picks. My doctor found a medication that helps with the tremor in my hands so I'm back to picking. The thin picks are really helpful.

This is a good challenge lock but it proves my theory iv'e been experimenting for weeks now if you thread chambers in a challenge lock it actually makes it easier to pick to understand my point the pins get stuck at the shearline when they are picked but great picking bill as always. :)
@pincoya44
@pincoya44 7 лет назад
look at the way pin 3 interfaces with the key... if you were to make a copy of the key on a standard key cutting machine, the copy would not open the lock because of pin 3.

bought a cheap brand padlock with the intention of having something easier than my abus padlocks to practice on. The packaging let me see the key so I knew it was 4-pin. lo and behold, it had exactly that kind of keeway and I have not been able to pick it yet :C

Hey Bill have you ever thought of using a small piece of metal say from the bottom edge of a key to infill some of the space at the bottom of the keyway. It would only have to fill to the bottom warding then you won't slip off it ?

Hole in the key must be for training your eyes before picking. ;-) Guess it's worth a try buying .013s feeler gauge to try how it works. But I'll probably wait with that until I can open a Ruko 600 series with Euro slimline picks without bending those, and that might take some time. - Keep on picking. Strawberry fields foreveeeer. :-)

When you mentioned "rare" elements, I expected niobium steel. A few kilograms that makes my tuck hundreds lighter by making the steel body thinner but just as tough. (Unlike the aluminum Ford 150s)

What would be a good kit for really easy, practical picking? I like the idea of learning to pick locks, but I dont have the time to really learn, so I'll have to be content with picking masterlocks and the like. I was thinking like a city and bogota, a thin knife, anything I can use to get into a lock as quickly as possible. Suggestions?
@pb222221
@pb222221 7 лет назад
Those keyways acutally kinda negate some of the security of the low cut 1 2 3 pins. less chance of accidentally bumping them while setting the back pins.

Would it make a difference if the thinner picks were made out of a sturdier material like titanium?
@DanBai123

Kithanalane I think titanium is stronger but also more brittle so it's not a common choice for a pick material. though I have seen it done

Hello. I'm sure you get this all the time but i just want to know. I'm wanting to get into picking and after watching your videos I'm quite sure i found a good pice together set. Do you feel .025 sparrows; standard hook, steep hook, offset hybrid, half diamond, twin peek, city rake, and their 2 pic. Heavy bar tension wrench is a good beginner set? Or should I add any, wait on a few, change any out for a different pic. I'm looking to keep it under $65. I would love some feed back. Thank you for your time.
@bosnianbill
@bosnianbill 7 лет назад
It would be a lot cheaper to just buy a ready-made kit that includes almost all of that stuff, then get the ones that are not included separately. You could easily get the Sparrows tuxedo kit and still have enough of your budget left over to get the heavy bar.

So I thought, as I'm waiting for my Southord set to arrive, I'd buy one or 2 cheap padlocks, so I went to the local locksmiths, and damn if I said the wrong thing !! I asked him what easy pick-able padlocks do you have ? Well fuck me, you should have seen his face ! Why would you want to know that he replied ? Personally I didn't think my question was that unreasonable, if your buying a padlock obviously you want one that's hard to pick..correct ? SO I said.. I have a new hobby, lock picking. To which he replied .. mate you need to get out more. So I said "I intend to once I have learned how to pick locks". Now I wear a suit and tie for work , drive a nice car, I don't think I look like your average tea-leaf. So I was surprised by his attitude. I got some rambling back like "Are you serious", and "Why the fuck would you want to learn that"? Oh and "best leaving that to the professionals". And at that point I realized that I had discovered "Early Man" still roaming the earth using a locksmiths as his cave dwelling. Now I need to add a bit of perspective here, this was the locksmith I called regularly to get into server cabinets, hard drive caddies/ bays, backup server plates and Cambridge locks, as these keys are often lost by the owners There's a couple of guys in vans, that normally turn up, so I hadn't met this dude before. At £129 + VAT a call out they had had some good business from me over the years.. not anymore I'd like to add. I looked up at one of the Zone 4 pin's and said they are crap mate I got into one of them with an improvised paper clip pick. I haven't of course never seen one before in my life ! :) Jesus ! I thought he was going to explode ! I'm 6" 2' play in the 2nd row at my amateur rugby club, so I wasn't intimidated by this guy. I made a mock scan of the shop and said tbh mate you don't have a single challenge lock in the place as far as I can see. I looked him square in the face and asked him "whats the difference between this shop and your sister ? , Simple I aint coming in this shop again ! (no I didn't but I thought it would sound funny lol) And left.. Now soon I hope I will be pocketing the cash for opening the various (lost key) locks I regularly come across, well that's the plan anyway.
