I wish I knew this lady 29 years ago, when I was first diagnosed with R.A. My journey has been long and very difficult, without support. I learnt to rely a lot on myself, my inner strength. I used alternative medicine along with conventional to deal with the pain. I exercise stretch and meditate to manage my pain now. Thank you Dr Furlan for having this lady as your guest. And thank you for all the work you do for us, improving our lives.

I lived with horrible chronic back pain for 20 years. I looked in vain for a program like this , that tackles the challenges that arise. It would have helped tremendously! My chronic pain caused multiple secondary problems, like caring for my children and marital difficulties, depression, and loss of my sunny personality. Thank you for what you do!!!! God bless you!

Why are there not chronic pain support groups like AA? The love and support of others who understand would be a blessing, lead by someone like this wonderful lady!
@DrAndreaFurlan
@DrAndreaFurlan Год назад
Actually there are! Most groups are organized by people who conquered pain and now want to coach and mentor others. Most groups are online, but there are also many in person.

My chronic pain and headaches and nasal problems and arthritis and muscle pain and knee pain all went away at one time. I switched to eating only vegetables, fruits and potatoes and legumes and greens. In 1 day I already saw results. In 3 days to 5 days, I felt like a new person. I've been eating this way every day for two years. I'm a senior citizen. My pain, headaches, arthritis, mind fogginess, has not been who I am anymore for these past two years. And I'm going to keep on keeping on because my food is my medicine. I'm plant powered and happier than ever. I sing daily now. I sing " it's a terrific life". My own tune. My husband couldn't be happier for me. I wanted to share my success story with anyone who's reading this. Let these foods be your medicine too. Let us all know your success stories! It doesn't take long to see the remarkable results! ( No salt, no oil, no sugar, no white flour, no processed foods, no fried foods! )

If you’re always in pain, because your nerves are being crushed, it limits and wrecks your life. Being mindful and meditating brings it to my attention. And you’d need mad skills and intimate knowledge of CBT and a psychiatrist license to help most people like me.

‘Sucks’ is a mild word to use about fibromyalgia . Living in hell is what I’d say. I have no friends or family to support me. Nobody wants to know, so they avoid you. I’ve had my siblings say to me that they don’t want to be around me if I’m I’ll; they just want me to be the funny girl I used to be. When I couldn’t keep that up, they stopped speaking to me, literally . Even my doctors don’t want to hear anymore . When you’ve been Ill for over 20 years, people are as sick of it as you are.

I would have been interested in getting a more substantial discussion on the practice, perhaps through discussing specific cases, to know if there is anything more here than managing your thoughts, talking to others, and having a support network. And are there any cross cultural, phenomenological or transpersonal psychological elements acknowledged/incorporated in the practice? If yes, a substantial discussion on that would be interesting.

This essential aspect of helping patients with chronic pain ie fibromyalgia is virtually non-existent in the UK...patients might, if lucky, be referred to a mind-body specialist but not for the number of sessions that would truly help the patient....Dr Sarno's books are a great resource...
