How he is Croatian legend when his father was Serbian and he born and grown up and make carier and went to NBA as Yugoslavian? Becouse of last two years of his life? When he supported natzi regime in Croatia? Ok. Than he is Croatian, or much precise - NewCroatian :)
@@MrQuixoticer Classic thinking of Serbian extremist based on lies, propaganda and myths.. yugoslavia is a non-existent country that had an expiration date until communist dictator died and afther that started to fall apart, because it was rotten regime.. And the only regime that caused war and big suffering is the Serbian criminal-chetnik-fasizm regime of your dictator Milosevic.. Michael Forever ~ even here; Jordan was like a Kryptonian playing against humans. Drazen shone a few times, which was a testament to his greatness. Rest well, Petrovic.
As a Petrović supporter, I fully agree. Jordan was and remains the unique player, dominating everybody. Petrović was very unique, too, and more than a phenomenon in terms of domination level considering his size, physique and rather medium athleticism for a point guard. A very creative scoring and especially shooting android.
and we should not forget, this was actually his rookie year.... and just because he was playing with no fear, with the talent and the work ethic he showed (he improved his body and athleticism this one year), i believe with time he would excel in this league. (and for sure... no mj comparisons)
Dražen Petrović was the second child of Jovan "Jole" Petrović, a police officer, and Biserka (née Mikulandra), a librarian. His father was born in a Serb family in Zagora, near Trebinje in Bosnia and Herzegovina. His mother was born in Bilice, near Šibenik, and was from a traditional conservative Croat family, devoutly Roman Catholic
Not sure he was better than Luca (Luca is technically probably the most sound player the world has ever seen, only behind Pistol Pete Maravich perhaps). Jordan was not just unhumanly athletic, but also smart and technically sound, however not technically more sound than Luka. I think that Dražen's biggest contrubution is that he awakened the belief by many Europeans to be able to compete with world's most elite basketball players the USA, yes! Dfažen was a better smiper than both of them.
@@zachvanwolf2123 Luka is just a very good player. Drazen, changed the way of Basketball in Europe and the rest of the world during the 80s. Unfortunately, he lived in a time when it was not usual that people from outside come to an NBA. If it was not like that he would be one of the greatest basketball players in the NBA history ever. For me, two players who played the most beautiful basketball to watch was Jordan and Petrovic.
Not really. Drazen played only two years in NBA effectively. Then, MJ played in incomparably better team that was feeding him with all balls. When situation was different, Drazen was the one who gave MJ cookies.
Milos Obrenovic I was talking about this game. MJ was great the first time he stepped on the NBA floor...he carried that sorry Chicago team for years. He made his team better. Not he had a great team. Smh..I know Drazen didn’t get to play for long and he was a great player but he was no MJ Stop it!! He did give MJ headaches though.
Not true. You would like it to be true but it's not. I can provide you with bunch of videos proving you're being subjective but the best proof is that MJ needed whole 7 years to win the first NBA championship. Yes, seven years!!! That much about your story of his sorry team. And Drazen played only two. So Drazen wasn't MJ, he was better. In two years he had beaten MJ in all shooting statistics. It's a fact. He didn't live enough for the other statistics, so I won't stop it and I am sorry you're American so I hurt your feelings.
Milos Obrenovic lol, you can’t hurt my feelings and I’m Jamaican ..Drazen was not better ..Shooting Stats mean nothing. MJ is the greatest scorer ever! Doesn’t matter how long it took MJ to win. Like I said ...he had no one. I’m a Bulls fan...he had Drug addicts and Alcoholics on his team. You seem to know nothing about “American Basketball” a team can’t put the ball in the hole for you. He did all his scoring. He didn’t need screens and off ball help like Drazen did to score. Yes the triangle offense help the rest of the team but MJ has always been an assassin. Look at his stats if you want to go there with this discussion. Lead the league in scoring how many times? Defensive player of the year and all defensive team how many times? The list goes on. Drazen was a better “shooter” at the time ..not better player..Stop being biased cause he was your countrymen. I’ve played for years and have met better shooters..the greater Athlete will always be better. You can not stop an athlete like MJ, Kobe, D Wade, AI, Tracy McGrady, KD and a few others form scoring period!! Larry Bird was a better shooter than Drazen but wasn’t very athletic that’s why MJ passed him too. I know the game ..I don’t get talking about other men..Sorry. You can have your opinion but most of the whole world and true Basketball players and fans know the truth.
Milos Obrenovic there’s no need for a back an forth because you’ll never win your argument with no sensible / Knowledgeable person. That’s just your opinion..which I respect but is no way a fact. R.I.P Drazen
I think it was Toni Kukoc who once said: " Drazen was very selfish player, but this wasn't his flaw." Petrovic is until today by far the best European player.
Drazen was and IMO the best Euro player ever to play in the NBA, but then again I'll argue that Jordan & Pippen + Rodman was probably the best 1, 2, 3, punch ever! For one you had the 2 best offensive + defensive players in Jordan & Pippen, then you had Dennis who was without a doubt the best pound for pound(215 lbs)rebounder ever, and defensive player who often had to guard players such as Shaq who weighed around 315 lbs when he played for the Lakers(an 100 lb advantage for Shaq), but Dennis would always win that battle!!!
@@sampetersen4210 Dirk is the most successful player in the NBA, but the best European players were Dražen Petrović and Arvydas Sabonis. Right next to them is Toni Kukoč, and then Nowitzki. If it weren't for Dražen Petrović, Vlade Divac, Toni Kukoč and Arvydas Sabonis, there wouldn't be Nowitzki, Stojaković, the Gasol brothers, Antetokounmpo, Dončić, Jokić, etc.
Tell me when Michael Jordan and Pippen stopped Petrovic.Petrovic helped Nets to play on NBA finals. That was very important for Nets and every player on Nets loved Drazen Petrovic as type and as player.
Jordan and Pippen where doubling Drazen ... you know you are good - when you have two of the best guards guarding you !!!! But those referees gave Jordan 10-12 points for free ... C`mon man!!!
Para os aficionados do esporte e do Basquete e quem teve a oportunidade de assistir ao vivo este jogo - isso porque cada jogo era um show à parte -, deve ter sido um privilégio único no mundo dos esportes. Sensacional. Show
Scottie Pippen, I really enjoyed watching him, especially at Portland as a veteran player. I loved his versatility, like 15 pts, 6 rb, 6 ast, 3 blck, 4 stls. Powerful and graceful at the same time. Great dunks. Corner 3pts. So smart in def. One of the best in setting up trap for offensive foul. Legend. Also to compare players from a different eras is not possible in my opinion. Except maybe MJ. Though, honestly, todays baskedball is totally different sport. Totally. Todays guards are big and strong as PF's from that era. And centers are quick and skillful at ball handling like guards. And everybody shoot 3's. But who knows, with todays science, training etc. someone talented and hard willed like Dražen would shoot 3's better than Curry. And MJ would score 50 on average. Who knows.
Jordan fist-bumping a fellow baller! Respect! Rip Draz... Go up there and show the other basketball players in Paradise things even the Lord himself has never seen! We love you and we miss you, Drazen!
the best basketball player of all time, the legend Dražen Petrović, if he was alive, I would surely be the best in the world. a big loss for basketball lovers, unfortunately
Brothers and Sisters I am Croatian and German.Jordan was the best ever.He is the Pele of Baskettball.Jordan is over NBA.Dražen was a very very good player,he plays with the heart,he was a very very hard worker. He plays Basketball 12 until 15 hours a day.Dražen is for me one of the 300 Best players in the World.Mj is absolute the best player in the History.God bless Dražen and Mj an the whole world.
What an achievement for Drazen Petrovic, one of the greatest Europeans to play the game, to be compared to Mike, of course not able to match but all the same great for Drazen.
The fail of Portland TrailLosers and Rick Adelman knows no bounds, they had in their roster a man who was the best player in the world outside the NBA, who would score 40, 50, 60 points in Europe in the biggest competitions and 30+ with the Yugoslavian national team (one of the top 2 teams in the world at the time along with the Soviet Union), a man who could easily be a dominating starter in any team in the NBA (the Bulls included), a man who was a natural leader, and so on. Yet they would bench this man for 45 minutes every night so that the likes of Terry Porter and some other random players could play. No wonder Portland won sh*t and they never will. Their fail and incompetence will echo for centuries to come.
If Drazen never got killed in that car accident he would have been Michael's number one nemes. He was catching up to Michael Jordan style of play and would have eventually equaled him to the point to where they would have traded Drazen to the Bulls so he can team up with him and not embarrass Micheal by playing against him.
@amando90 Im a Nets fan, and a huge Drazen fan....But lets be clear..Drazen was not surpassing MJ no way no how...Just stop the insanity, Ive been watching NBA since 1985
@@analyticalinsight Dräzen was on his way to equal Michael, but due to his unfortunate death we will never kno how better he would have been. If so, the Leag wudve made a big trade to have had Dräzen join the Bulls.
Yes, hard to follow the logic of the Blazers coach, especially since Dražen's stats looked so efficient and elite. But instead he was allowed to play only for about 14 mins a game, and even less so in the consecutive season. Despite having an eff. FG percentage higher than Michael Jordan's (well above 50%), and hitting threes well above 40%, he wasn't even shooting from the arch excessively, in contrast to today's game. Man, what a miscalculation by that coach and management!

Stick him to closely he'll blow by you and slash to the rim. That's a lost art nowadays. Last player to play that way was Kobe
I may be making a most controversial comment here, but watch how awkwardly petrovic shot 3s. Even coming from real his training reveals the shortcomings of European players compared to native Americans, at least in the 90s. A great basketball player, petrovic, but his athleticism was never great. Still 2nd best European nbaer after Dirk.
What? Petrović was a career 44% 3 pt shooter in the NBA. It is irrelevant how his shot looked, the only thing yhat matters is that it went in. Both Petrović and Nikola Jokić are better than Dirk and it is not close.
