Bringing 12 centurions is actually kinda smart. almost nobody brings them to a tournament people might not know how to play against them. also if you split the devestator centurions with las cannons into squads of 3 you would be able to play the objectives even more and have them in different locations. Your choice of inferno pistols actually makes a lot of sense with kayvaan shrike giving the squad lone operative. they are unlikely to be shot and will often charge first meaning the inferno pistols are just more damage, the storm shields are great in every other case a really really cool use of them.
I don't know if splitting them for objective play is worth it. They aren't good at that anyways and it makes Strike from the Shadows and Guerrilla Tactics just worse on them.
In a game I played my opponent dropped Kayvaan Shrike in my back line feeling totally safe. I then used Typhus’ Eater Plague to snipe him from 18” away. I lost the game but it felt good have this one moment.
I’m glad you had a great time, and I love seeing your sportsmanship! You hear so many horror stories about tournaments but you’re exactly my favorite type of 40K player
Great job Paul! Very excited to see you win with an, uh.. off-meta list! My game group mates dont feel confident if their army isn't some meta list. You're helping to bring out the fun in this hobby!
Great job going 2-1, that's way better than I ever did at my local tournaments. And wow, that techmarine is REALLY great. Such a good job on that paint job.
The Screaming Ravens did their task: they showed how surprising a sudden TWELVE CENTURION SIEGE can be. Yeah it folds to heavy armor and being out of position, but that's just par for the course with Raven Guard stuff. The fact that it held up against 4 c'tan is amazing
Holy shii... I love my centurians and am the centurian guy at the shop but not even I would field a dozen in one list! That is either the best thing ever or the most madcap!
The other thing that's good with C'tan would be your Shrike Bomb with Melta pistols, because Meltas additional damage is applied *after* the damage is halved IIRC. It's why Sisters of Battle into Necrons was considered a poor matchup for Necrons. So if they're in Melta range, you're doing a minimum of 3 damage to them that, sure they can roll their Feel No Pain on but you're going to get at least some damage through.
I think you did a great job Paul! I cant comment too hard on your tactics since I don't play 40K much, but I can at least say that your "remixed" list definitely looks better, and I'd like to see another video covering your experiences playing it another tournament. But that's only after you've gotten around to playing more AoS. Those rats and Stormcast won't finish themselves. Also, WELL DONE BROTHER! To hear you recpunt the tale of the Sixth Secret Snafu Shuffle was quite the experience! I only wish I couldve been there myself to see such a historic moment! You do your Primarch proud.
I would love to go to a weird tournament. I imagine nearly all of them being a sort of "power-game-off", which is more like esports and I'm just not as interested. But I guess they can be wacky as well. I would love that. Congrats on getting to go and doing so well
Meltas into C'Tans is goo to bemuse you don't hale the melta bonus. So if its like meta 2, the exa 2 is not halved. I wrecked a C"tn with a Knight Errant (Melta 6 on the big gun) Modifiers in Rules Commentary - apply division modifiers before applying multiplication modifiers, before applying addition and then subtraction modifiers. So you roll say a 4 with melta 2, the modifiers are 1/2 (C'Taa) +2 (melta) the 1/2 is applied first so damage goes from 4 to 2, thyen add the meta next so it gets the full 2 from that
It’s on theme, if the enemy doesn’t understand what you’re doing they are going to make mistakes or leave something exposed because when they expect You to do something else. Very Screaming Raven.
I'll comment before I start the video or read a single comment, I hope you do swell mr Paul and I look forward to be taken on a emotional journey. Edit1 5,30 in you could swap the homefield Incursors for normal Intercessors, htye got Sticky and if the opponent tries to secret mission you you can run them out of the DZ to stop it.
something else to consider (i believe this was clarified this in an FAQ at some point), i think GW has specified that damage modifiers follow PEMDAS as far as sequencing goes, meaning that those vanvets' inferno pistols could've potentially shredded (lol) those c'tan. the d3 damage would've been halved, but the +2 damage for being in melta range would not, meaning each successful hit would've dealt 3-4 damage to those bad boys
on a similar note to the point at the end of the video, i played a tournament game once against "the magnificent 7:" the 4 c'tan, a monolith, a giant necron walker, and a lone royal warden. it sounds absolutely terrifying to play against (and it was, lol), but my opponent was fantastic all the way through and i had a great time with that game. might be my favorite game played in recent memory
I’m glad you enjoyed your first tournament! they are a blast, but a lot of times get a super negative stigma from the larger casual scene due to a few bad actors. I think you played well, and your list is solid. I would agree that you would want to consider maybe just 1-2 5 man squads of jump boys to go do actions so your kayvaan blob can get stuck in more. additonally, the terrain, while fun and flavorful, definitely isn’t as balanced as the official GW layouts. this isn’t a bad thing! but you described a few scinarios where it worked against the players, so keep that in mind when analyzing these games. the tournament layouts are boring, but are balanced and were official releases for a reason. hope to see more battle reports from you!
Your first game the models of your opponent look really nice. Seeing his deployment I kinda knew he was done turn one. If your terrain in deployment sucks don’t force yourself to deploy everything. Double dorns can be a menace if you rapid ingress one turn 2. Mechanized infantry cannot do funnels. Very textbook w and you used real world strategy to win too. That’s soldiering.
Cool video. Was wondering where u got the hammer on the jumpack guy? At 2.54 in the video. Is there a special place i can buy one i think it looks really cool.
You’ve inspired me to make my own raven guard inspired successor chapter it’s even gonna be called the red ravens or the blue ravens I think red raven sounds better the only way you know that they have been there is the fact that there’s a lot of red and dead whatever
Hopefully you get the admech treatment of them binning the stupid twin weapons equalling twin linked rather than 2 shots. Because god damn that's rough
The Shrike bomb is acutally really smart. I kinda slept on the inferno pistols VanVets. Also making your own LoneOp char out of a smash captain is a really smart move. The fact that you combined it with 12 centurions is just the cherry on top. A bit of a question though: What do you transport in the Stormraven? I know you mention dropping a brutalis out of it, but do you do also ferry around some of the assault centurions, right? You are not making the walk all the way, right?
@@PaulIsBadAtStuff Awesome! Thank you for the response, I hope you had fun playing these games and I look forward to hearing of more Screaming Raven games.
I have a list in the making called IMPERIAL FIST ASSAULT GROUP wish contains the following: Tor garadon leading 6 eradicators 18 ASSAULT CENTURIONS 12 DEVASTATOR CENTURION and combiwepon lieutenant for the home objective
Also, and people please correct me if I’m wrong, but it you have say D6+1 halved and you roll a 4, you do 2 damage +1 so 3 total. The plus damage is not affected by that, the same way if you shoot Magnus with his 0 damage thing you can still do damage
Shout out to my fellow Chapter Homebrewer. Making it so there are more than 6 or 7 colors in the army worldwide. Also, I'm working on a Firestorm Assault Force Blood Angels list so much respect for the off meta play.
Sometimes, the greatest 'meta' thing you can do is bring something no one expects. Wish we could have played to see whose luck was worse 😛. Maybe see you at another one?
Wonder what would have happened if Paul had to deal with Angron and the world eaters? Other than that thought nice work at putting fear of centurions into the Guard and Necrons.
@@scrubgrunt5105 Angron has 16 wounds at toughness 11 and he has a +2 save and 4 up involn he can have a +6 feel no pain with blessings of Khorne... And he can resurrect if you roll three sixes
just started the video and wanted to say that I think the reason you went 2-1 is because you had somewhat of a skew list. Centurions are tough and with the raven guard detachment it makes them weirdly maneuverable (keep in mind that you cant "make a normal move up to 6"" if 6" is more than the unit's movement characteristic). They're custodes Terminator statlines (but slightly slower, less attacks, and no invuln) but with more weapons and better melee weapons. Assuming you ran 2x3 devastator and 2x3 assault, you're slow but you always have stealth and cover when outside 12", so now it's harder to hit you and shoot you off the board as you lumber forward. Not including the stormraven dishing out bolters to cut chaff down like nothing and zip around the board. Anyways, they arent run because they're slow and skilled players would know those threat ranges and move accordingly, sacrificing the shooting of a big gun to take down the centurions if they have to. However against casual players you dont know what they do because no one ever plays them. Casual players are more likely to focus on what's in their front lines rather than the death star moving up the board and will kick ass in T3 and take the game home.
always best to play the units you want, not the ones that are good. when lord kroak came out, he actually made me win a price on a tournament! one was given out for winner, one for best painted army and one for the person that didnt win a single game guess what i got!
this looks like a lot of fun how would one go about learning the rules my introvert ahh doesnt want to talk to people to find someone who plays the ttrpg
What have you done...? I take 6 Centurions in Vanguard Spearhead, and thanks to this, GW will notice that they're actually quite good and nerf them into the ground (again)!
