I have the same sanding discs - they, along with a Rikon sander (nuts... I wish I'd thought of using my drill!) have been a real game changer. Best CNC accessories I've bought near the end of my first year CNCing!

For those of us who live in close proximity to neighbors I would absolutely recommend you consider a proper enclosure. When designed well it can drastically decrease the noise pollution that your machine creates, especially the more higher pitch resonances. As a bonus feature, you will also contain more mess that your dust extraction system fails to collect plus you will be safer in case your work piece explodes or a large bit comes flying out of your spindle at 16K rpms. If shopping for a good quiet vacuum the Dewalt StealthSonic is about the best value out there at under 70 DBA for under $200, my local Lowes store sells them
@joshuabray37
@joshuabray37 Год назад
They are EXPENSIVE, but the Festool dust extractors are fairly quiet too… I recommend a VFD spindle too. They are pretty quiet. You can carry on a conversation without yelling, while standing next to it. With the extractor and VFD, I can’t hear the CNC in the next room (and for sure can’t hear it outside my garage)… I do agree that an enclosure would be good too.

Another good video, Damien. I have the controller and I don't think I'd be able to live without it. It's very convenient for moving the machine around very quickly.

Appreciate the information Damien! My journeyman just arrived and I’m getting ready to start setting it up soon. There’s a lot of expense to factor outside of “just” the CNC.

that there is. Can't wait to see what you make! Make sure to send pictures. My CNC is the most fun "investment" I've ever made!

Got it set up and running! Thoughts on Carveco Maker? Got a free year with the CNC. Tried Easel and carbide create (free versions) and they didn’t impress. Carveco has been good so far. Learning how clueless i am lol! Lesson one - i thought dust collection was a luxury. It’s a necessity. Especially when surfacing a spoilboard.

@@scottdraughn2077 I've never used Carveco Maker. If you give it a shot, I'd love to hear what you think.

I have a cheap harbor freight air powered 2" dual action orbital sander that uses the sanding discs that you had on your list. The sander is so much nicer, if you have an air compressor, for sanding than the drill. It works great on small trays.

Good luck! I have no experience with other CNC's, other than a small Genmitsu, so I can't really compare them, but I love my Onefinity.

I really want one. Just can't afford it right now. I've been looking into a laser too. Same. I guess I could buy a cheap $175 laser. Also I'm learning.
@flakk1989

Definitely a great machine. For hold-downs, I've been using the ca glue method and a 23g pin nailer for quite some time. My go-to is the nailer at least 90% of the time. Much more affordable than ca glue. Oh yeah, get the controller. You will not use the screen ever again to move your machine!
@SothpawDesigns
@SothpawDesigns Год назад
Yup, I’m gonna get the controller. Don’t really know why I haven’t already. Everyone tells me it’s so much easier to use
@SothpawDesigns
@SothpawDesigns Год назад
The nailer is a good idea. Don’t know why I hadn’t thought about that. And you’re right, the tape and glue gets expensive, and time consuming with larger projects

FYI I use an Xbox controller with cable and it works but some time I have drifting problems so I always disconnect it when I moved to requested place.

good video,I would have mention the cost $ of the items, gives a better idea and it doesn't take much longer, and it's on the title of the video .
@SothpawDesigns
@SothpawDesigns Год назад
I thought about that, but with the inflation craziness these days, the prices would be obsolete in no time. Instead, I provided links for each, which shows up to date pricing.
@thepennystalkerchannel5160
@thepennystalkerchannel5160 Год назад
@@SothpawDesigns well the prices are changing but that Will actually make it a time stamp of how much things cost at the moment of making the video, or what you paid, I mean this videos are going to be forever and is nice to know what was going on in this particular era. I like when they add up the prices/cost along with the sound of the cash register.
@SothpawDesigns
@SothpawDesigns Год назад
True, but I'm not trying to make a time stamp, my hope is to make something that is informative and relevant outside of the immediate time it's posted. I considered doing what you suggested when I was first making this, but decided against it for that reason. Since these videos will remain online indefinitely, I feel that they should be relevant indefinitely. I appreciate your feedback though.
@SothpawDesigns
@SothpawDesigns Год назад
It may be a good idea in the future to do both though. To include the prices, but also include links so that viewers can see current prices, and to remind folks of that. Good ideas.
