Amazing, John! Been waiting ages on this one! A masterclass in how to evolve one musical idea across many variations. Excellent! (Can share this in a couple of groups that may be interested, with pemission!)
That’d be awesome, Ciaran, thanks! Yes, I doubt there are many people searching for resident evil piano variations 😂. And thank you very much for your kind words!
I played RE2 OG to death when I was teenager so it immediately brought back memories hearing the music. Loved RE2 Remake too but it was interesting how much the OG score could actually add to the game when it was selected, pretty cool that they made it an option. Amazing how "bright" some of your variations are considering how dark the atmosphere is in the original. Would say the 11th variation is my favourite, still gave me nostalgia while also sounding new and different.
Thanks! Yes, I wanted to try to get as much variety into the variations as possible. I was the same as you; I got RE2 the day it was released in the UK. And it, plus the original RE were and are still a couple of my favourite video games ever. Never played the remake!
Hey JW, I just wanted to stop in and recommend Equus by Ne Obliviscaris for a reaction! It's one of their latest songs and I have been obsessed lately. Much respect sir.
Loved it - kept changing which I enjoyed the most - although not the most impressive I think 11 was my favourite for a sense of urgency and unsettling. I wonder how many takes this all took!...
Thanks, man. I actually got a few of them on my first take, as I did a lot of practice before filming. But didn’t get them all on the same day. And had to retake some from scratch because the footage was too shaky when I watched it back. That was fun. 🙄 My piano was slightly touching the desk that the camera was mounted to, so it didn’t appreciate the more bravura / fortissimo sections!
Very cool John! Theme and 12 Variations is always a fantastic way to flesh out a really cool theme, brilliant! Did you end up composing exclusively on piano? Or did you use Sibelius or something like that? Cheers!
Thank you, Kevin! I started working on this before I got my first 100 subscribers! I’ve been at it on and off for several years. So glad to finally get it all finished. The sheet music was finished months ago!
Thanks, Kevin! It was composed mainly by sitting at the piano and scoring it on musescore at the same time. Then, I’d often take the work I’d created by that process and edit and rework the score alone on my laptop. Some of the reworking involved changing key signatures, the order of the set, expression/articulation markings etc.
@@JWSoundworks2 Definitely need to look into Musescore then. It's funny I began writing a theme and variations back in music school and basically everything about music creation went away after leaving school. Making a significant switch to creating instead of consuming and it is so much more rewarding 🤘 Got any awesome new stuff in the works?
Hey I've noticed that you've mentioned The Dear Hunter before but I haven't seen any reactions from you, have you reacted to them before and I'm just missing the videos?
@@KPGuitarStudios I have a pile of original instrumental tracks in various stages of completion. I have a guitar cover of a non guitar-based song finished that I need to film the video for. And I have several classical piano pieces I’m practicing. Also hoping to get back into the Analysis videos soon.
@@JWSoundworks2 Hot damn! Lots in the hopper. I know the feeling! Your content is always good stuff, take your time, do it up how you want it to present and I'm sure it will be well received :)
