An additional tip would be to think about body position on the bike. The smaller you can make the front aerial space aka your body the less drag you'll have from the wind, hence the reason people on TT bikes go a lot fast than anyone on a road bike. When altering a position, make sure that it is comfortable, as you'll have to lay down the power for 20mins/4hs depending on your goal. A small change I made last year was moving from 440mm to 380mm bars.
And remember, there are so many metrics involved which affect the numbers; wind speed & direction, road conditions, weather, temperature, traffic, how you feel, who you're riding with etc. So don't be disheartened if the average goes down every so often. Unless you ride in an indoor Velodrome, the conditions will always change. In terms of losing weight, I used to carry everything and the kitchen sink! See what you're carrying and see if anything could be removed. I still carry more than most, but a vastly reduced loadout than before. No longer wear a bag on club rides.
@@clouddot1462 same, you just take it slow, piece by piece. Believe me, I carried loads of tools, spares, extra layers of clothing, power bank, first aid kit, food, gels etc That was a handlebar bag and small satchel bag and jersey pockets full of stuff. Now it's just a handlebar bag and jersey pockets. Don't think I'll go less than that
@@HanOfGod13 have you been looking in my bag? I carry more or less the same things. I now have limited myself to a handlebar bag, but now it’s become a game of tetris, getting everything to fit is exhausting! I’ll try that. Leave something behind *internal panic*
All very good points, Han! Thank you for sharing. I remember the conversations that we had about what to carry on the bike. You are right, if you can streamline the amount of "things" that you carry then that will help massively as well. If I go for a ride with you and Shazna then We will be able to survive for days!! 😁
Very good tips. It was nice of you to show the picture of the Taj Mahal. Please note that it is not a temple. It is a Tomb. It was built by an Muslim emperor in India for his beloved on her death. Later he too was buried in it. His name was Shah Jahan and her name was Mumtaz.
@@shyamfootprints972 It's a good question, it would be an interesting video for sure. Maybe I should come up with a test and try it out. With clipless, you can pull on the upstroke so it's got to be at least 30% (I'm guessing). Plus the fact that you have constant foot position so you can get your position spot on. Clipless shoes are also stiffer and help transfer your power better to the bike 🤔
the bike industry would have us believe a 12,000 pound/dollar/euro bike is the answer, but the bottom line is power to weight ratio: reduce excess mass (fat) and increase power by working muscles. When those can no longer be improved then the expensive bike, deep section wheels, OSPW (no, not really!) will start to make a difference. But also, just get the bike you like/can afford/love to ride. If that's a 12 grand bike and you can afford it then that's the bike for you! Just don't get it nicked...
