Unpopular opinion - but I like how they handled the pandemic :D I love that we've been pretty much been living a normal life in Beijing with minor inconveniences and a few hiccups (like the January outbreak) since May last year while the rest of the world stumbled from one lock-down to another...

When I first visited China in 1997, the first question that crossed my mind was: "Is this really a communist country?". Everything seems like a free country. And I have to admit, China is a safe country. Crime is rare, street food is more varied in every city, and we will always find something new. Even in the countryside though. My father said, you need 300 years, to be able to explore all of China. And I think that's the most appropriate metaphor to describe China.

Many years ago a Chinese woman at my job was leaving, I went to her going away party which was at a Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood in the US, it was without a doubt the best food I've ever had, not just best Chinese food, best all food any food I've ever had, none of the food served at her party was on the restaurant's menu, the restaurant made all of it especially for her party, I guess their regular menu catered to American taste for Chinese food, I like American Chinese food but it's not anything to have a fit over or write home about, this food was definitely "Have a fit over" food

and also just how much variety you can find but only using really basic seasoning (soy sauce, salt, sugar, rice wine, rice vinegar, are the main ones, a few dozen other popular more location specific ones like sichuan pepper, fermented tofu, shrimp paste, etc... or variants of the base 5. mushroom soy sauce, jaggery, Zhenjiang vinegar vs Red rice vinegar using red koji yeast, multipurpose Shaoxing yellow rice wine vs double distilled Erguotou for sichuan-style pickling, etc...)

American Chinese food seems to be sweet and heavy in taste after improvement? The most famous one should be "Zuo Zongtang Chicken". In fact, there is no such dish in China at all. What is more similar to this dish should be "pineapple goo-lo meat" or "pot-wrapped meat". American Chinese food is not strictly Chinese food.

I'm an American Asian. When I moved back to the Philippines seven years ago, I remember I was telling my friends that the Chinese in the US are poor and we in USA think little of them. Now I feel sorry for the people that lives in the bubble where I used to be in too. This is the reason people need to travel to get out of the bubble. Get out of ignorance. It will surely improve and benefit them. It came back to me when you mention the bubble concept. Now I am educating people as much as I can about China. When I'm able to fly there to China,I would definitely bring my whole family for a visit with me.

Living in China is a special experience in your life , After you go back UK, you may miss China a lot one day. Chinese people are friendly and having a peaceful life. Comparing with USA , Chinese no need worry about shooting, robbery, discrimination and political corrections. After working in USA, I have to say Chinese have more freedom than Americans . We can talk about everything in China freely but in USA or Europe, due to political corrections, we cannot talk everything freely. Chinese ladies can take a walk at middle night and travel alone any time . But in USA , I dare not go outside at night .

I am also a British living in China. To be fair, China is really a great place. What I love the most is the delicious food and the people. I really recommend Dongbei Food and Dongbei restaurant because Dongbei people are very friendly, amiable and sort of honest.( they may speak a bit loud but they are really nice people) Dongbei people sell stuff cheaper and cook the food with larger amount! Now I have loads of Dongbei friends and I love going to their restaurants. (takeaway is easy to get but I still kind of want to walk outside because the vibes there are fantastic) By the way, apps are really convenient in China. I haven't bring any money with me for like months and I can pay with apps on my phone anywhere from Luxury stores to small 'ditan's.

@@tomjohnston3393 What? Jail time?! No! People in China no matter chinese or not, will not be put in jail until they break the Criminal Law. Such as murder, Economic crime, drugs, has dangerous weapon..etc. Our internet Supervision knows almost all the channels on RU-vid.Including this channel and they knows what I did on it.Then what happen? Nothing! Because I'm not breaking the Criminal Law and I didn't.And this channel's owner didn't break the Criminal Law too. Like I said, personal VPN is not legal in china.But I still can use it to learn knowledge all of the world and watch other country's main media which is still saying China has no freedom,bla,bla,bla... :-) SO,the most important things in china is Not to Break the Criminal Law. Rember it,and people in china can do a lot of things. Excuse my pool english.

Hi Nico !!! I've Been Into China 3 Times : 15 Days in Guilin ( August 2017 ), 15 Days in Guilin ( November 2018 ) and 15 Days in Kunming, Lijiang & Tiger Leaping Gorge. I Am From England, and I Love China. Why ??? They Are Such a Great Country !!! As You Said, A Lot of Things Are So Much Easier There Than in The West. And Much Cheaper Than Here. The ONLY Reason Why I Did Not Move to Live There is The HEALTH SYSTEM....I Was Shocked When a Chinese Friend Told Me in Kunming, That If You Have a Broken Leg ( Let's Say ) and You Go To Hospital For Treatment....YOU HAVE TO PAY UPFRONT....If Not.... Go Home. The Chinese NHS is Just a Bloody Joke. Have Fun and Thank You for Your Channel !

but in China most of people are insured, you can get reimbursement from government or from insurance company if you buy business medical insurance from them.

Oh I saw you were having a meetup/dinner somewhere in Beijing with the other RU-vidrs! You were talking with Matt Galat (American) hopefully you could found out how to be in CGTN Travel channel! CGTN could use you and husband together to elevate their standards, bring more exciting content and expands the horizon 😁👍🏻 Best part is (Matt wouldn't tell you this), all your travel related expenses will be paid for 😁😁😁

How are Americans treated in China after Trump started tariffing Chinese imports?? I heard restaurants started putting up signs saying, "Dogs and Americans not allowed." 😐😐😐😐

What you heard are not the truth. People don’t care where are you from if you are good people. China medias don’t like American medias always release hate. It is not allowed in China release hate by the media platforms
@Nicofilms
@Nicofilms 3 года назад
There are loads of Americans in China and they don’t get treated any differently to anyone else. I’ve certainly not heard of signs like this. There was a point where some places banned foreigners in general at the beginning of COVID but this hasn’t been the case since.
