Personally I think all of the people saying that D1 was better are thinking about the atmosphere that's the story created, and more end-of-the-world survivors type feeling, like we were actually trying to protect the last remnants of humanity, along with the armor sets have any more rugged and utilitarian look to them

I have fond memories of the resource loops. My now-husband and I met through Destiny PVP sweats and grinding resource loops together for hours so that we’d have enough resources to upgrade weapons and armor was a big part of how we got to know each other. D1 had its charms and fond memories, but the QOL and overall improvements we now see in D2 are leaps and bounds above what D1 could possibly offer. And yet, there were some ROI visual flares and effects that for some reason D2 has not been able to recapture.

@fatherofrose4027 they probably WOULD be better. But the fact we haven't gotten the reprised raid ornaments, chroma glows, or armor effects such as Wrath's SIVA effects makes me think that the D2 engine is so radically different as to make them unfeasible.
@alter6243
@alter6243 10 месяцев назад
@@GhostRydr1172I don’t really believe that. Look at Nessus concept art for Destiny 2 and you’ll see it was originally planned to have SIVA. Destiny 2 being in development while Rise of Iron was being finished and shipped out really makes me doubt that the assets don’t exist in the game or that the engine could have changed to a point where those assets were unusable. Bungie knows they can’t bring back the Devil Splicers so they’d have to create a new SIVA variant for one of the enemy races. They don’t want to do that. Just look at the Light Hive or Stasis Fallen for example. Outside of bosses and mini-bosses, the rank and file enemies are basically the same.

I definitely enjoy the dark and moody lighting, along with the more serious and somber tone of D1 to the nightmare inducing comedic cringe of Lightfall. I also really appreciate how special exotics felt in D1. When I finally got Hawkmoon I was so incredibly excited, and now exotics feel so... mundane. I just pull them off of the season pass, or do a lost sector and in 15 minutes I am done. This excludes the raid/dungeon exotics, but yeah I really miss that super exciting feeling that the rarity of exotics brought to the table in D1. That being said, I fired up D1 last week to see how the two compare and man alive... I did not have a good time. Even aside from the horrific FoV and low framerate, Destiny 2's movement and character control are so, so much better. It's sort of hard to watch actually. It's just... slow, plodding, and boring. D2's gunplay also feels much better to me, and going back really makes me aware of the fact that, despite some very big management/business-level problems that D2 certainly has, the core gameplay experience is absolutely an improvement over D1 and we have a shit ton of cool guns to play around with. I am also going to put forth a hot take and say that, even in its current state... D2 PvP is WAY better than D1 PvP.

Facts. D1 PvP was superior, and far more balanced. The stats didn't quite make sense but sense this was Bungie's first attempt at using stats, I think that that was why. In D1 I feel like it was very similar to Halo, in that you could cross map on Rusted Wastelands with Thorn but it was incredibly inefficient due to Zoom actually inhibiting your accuracy and having true engagement ranges that didn't encroach on each other. Likewise with Scouts, they feasted but close-midrange they'd get dunked on by HCs and Autos.
@hairytoad2194

@martinprovo2389 that's spot on. I don't understand how bungie made things in D1 so balanced compare to the bullshit now. Towards the end D1 was going down cause of the whole special ammo boxes but that was it. Maybe it's because I loathe the most recent metas, being pusle rifles and sitting in the back, but it's crazy to think that the last good meta we had was the 120 HC meta. And that shit was wild too.

Except for the addition of mantling and not going to orbit for every activity, we can now confirm D1 was the better game. A game I enjoyed grinding because you had to do it for powering up your character and weapons. Now, you can craft them. A vault of 60 meant you actually had to use what you had which made us better players. I'll give you self res Warlocks, but they were fun and I never mained any Warlock because they're all crutches. Of course there are plenty of changes I liked in D2, but a lot of them could have been fixed like special ammo economies and sniper rifles in PvP.

D1 was much closer to being balanced and good than d2, at least in recent years. D2 obviously has a lot of quality-of-life upgrades but that says nothing about the game itself. The quality of life upgrades would have come to d1 if Bungie continued to support it. Overall most things mentioned in the video can either be classified as quality-of-life issue. This doesn't mean that d1 was a better game but this video can basically be summarized as: d2 is better because d2 is newer The pvp in d1 feels like a barebones mode compared to d2. It feels like d1 is much closer to a 70/30 ration of gunplay/abilities.

It feels like d1 is much closer to a 70/30 ration of gunplay/abilities. Take off your rose tinted glasses lmao PvP in D1 was ability/special weapon spam central (just like D2 now, who would have thought). One-shot nades (fusion, magnetic, flux), 1 shot shoulder charge, 1 shot weapons. Hell, the main complain about D1 PvP was how primary gunfights didn't matter enough, which in turn led to D2 being dogshit at launch in an attempt to please the PvP crowd

@@Chadagon_of_the_Swolen_Order Fixing the ability spam in d1 would have been easy. give stickies the d2 treatment - easy fix; revert the special economy changes - shoulder charge is no longer a problem ( especially because shoulder charge is much less potent in d1 than it is in d2) - easy fix; compare that do d2 where night stalkers can be invisible 24/7, dawn-blades can float 24/7, and titan can create cover out of thin air and have a shoulder charger that is 10 times better than in d1, the list goes on... abilities in d2 are so potent and have so much uptime it's ridiculous.

The Vex mythoclast meta....When the hard mode vog came out literally PVP was unplayable for weeks, thing could 2/3 tap you it was insane. In tandem with that even trying to do hard mode VOG was a nightmare because of the lack of the light system at the time. LFGs had "MUST BE LEVEL 30" when you literally needed gear from the hard mode VOG to begin with. Thats another thing as well, before the taken king there was NO LIGHT LEVEL, you had to get to level 30 with your gear and NOTHING got to level 30 except for the hard mode raid. Another thing that I dont miss is heavy ammo synths. You could pop them and then have to wait 5 minutes for them to spawn. Nightfall was a permanent GM so if you died you went back to orbit no matter what. Suros regime was also broken for ages in PVP as well. OH and dont get me started on shot package on shotguns - the felwinters like could literally map people half way across the world. Thorn was also super busted and you added that onto being a warlock with the RAM on as well and it was literal easy mode.

I know the seasonal model is a very sore topic for destiny 2, but without anything like that in Destiny 1 we had some laughably long content droughts. Year 1 and up until the Taken King we’re pretty bearable because they were all released pretty close to each other. But D1 veterans know how long it took for us to get anything new after the Taken King. For those who are unaware, the Taken King, arguably one of the best expansions the destiny universe has ever seen (rivalled only by Forsaken), released September 15 2015. The next content update we got was on April 12 2016. That’s a whole 7 months with no new content. And it wasn’t even new stuff. It was content we previously had that had been sunset (yes that was a thing in D1 as well) After the April update, commonly referred to as the Taken Spring, the next new batch of content we got was the Rise of Iron expansion, which released September 20 2016. So while the seasonal mode can be seen as scummy, it’s a hell of a lot better than the content cycle we had for Destiny 1.

The grind exhausted us, and Light fall being so incomplete story wise was disappointing. D2 had a rocky start when it should have been an easy home run. Acti-Bliz really hurt the game with their influence, and it still shows. Forsaken fixed a lot of the issues, but the taint of micro/macro transaction greed had already set in. Scarlet Keep(that was D2s 2nd major DLC's name right?) was utterly disappointing. Beyond light was good, but introduced sunsetting, and content vaulting, Witch Queen was the best yet, and Light Fall was good on gameplay poor on story. D1 Today is complete package, minus Trials, and IB, which were discontinued by Bungie. D2 is an incomplete shell missing arguably half or more of it's content via Vaulted story, locations Raids, Maps, relevant Seasonal content, etc. Overall as a "Game" D1 is better as it's a complete package with a complete story, and only missing 3 additional experiences(IB, Trials, and Queen Wrath event), all of which Bungie disabled. D2 is a garbled mess missing massive chunks, or relevant content, much of which was payed for.

1-don’t know why the year 1 vault count was even mentioned since that’s not how the game is anymore, but there’s 108 weapon slots now as well as 108 armor and 72 material slots, and if I’m being honest, although I would love more slots, the vault count is rarely an issue considering the amount of weapons and armor in the game and the way the stats worked meant you don’t have to collect nearly as much armor as you do in d2 in order to make builds 2- you mentioned it in the video and I don’t know why you even included it but yea ofc it’s 30 frames that was just the standard at the time and if you get back into playing d1 you get used to it fast and it doesn’t even feel bad after a couple days of playing it. 3- some people actually prefer this, me included it gives you a small sense of accomplishment finally being able to fully utilized a weapon, and also I feel like the people who don’t like this are just used to the d2 way and just don’t appreciate a different way especially if it takes a little longer 4- your just knit picking things from year 1 at this point. Yes you have certain guns that can currently get low magazines to have a higher chance of 2 tapping but if you’ve ever played against good players in d1 you will know that it more of a funny gimmick then anything and really isn’t that viable in higher skilled lobbies, also most of the point you made was referencing hawk moon and final round snipers from YEAR 1(9 years ago lol) (also not a thing anymore btw) which is completely unfair and kinda stupid considering it would have no impact on anyone who goes back and plays d1. 5- idk what to tell you, however once again, not a thing anymore, if you get back on d1 rn there are no more exclusives and no matter your console you can have anything available. 6-ALSO a non relevant point considering there was a fix to this added 8 years ago in year 2, you can just go buy resources. 7-there’s no way you made skorri meta a point against the overall destiny 1 game, first off, yea it’s not in the game anymore, got nerfed. Second, it was only around for a couple months which is less time then plenty of absolutely broken shit was around in d2. 8- sure fair enough but you mentioned it in the video but yea definitely first world problem. 9- skill issue, sorry but if you truly noticed a difference with mantling vs not mantling then you probably weren’t that good at using your thumbs. You mentioned the stress of having to focous on the jumping puzzle as a bad thing? I feel like that actually was a good thing and kept you engaged vs d2 where you can fuck around and literally do something on another screen and still clear any jump cause of mantling. 10- in pve self res was actually just opened of new ways to play the game in regards to challenges and low-man’s ect, sure It gave bad players a way out and more forgiveness but I feel like it had a bigger upside then downside, in pvp sure it was broken for periods of time but it really wasn’t nearly as massive of an issue as you made it out to be. 11-yea whatever kinda dumb but there’s an artifact so whatever. 12- sure I’ll give you that one but I’ve almost never paid attention very much to the story in either game and have mainly been focused on the activities. ------ I’m not gonna say that d1 is better then d2 cause by most people’s opinions it’s probably not but this is a terrible video that’s meant to farm views from nostalgia while not actually bringing very many relevant points to the table in the discussion comparing the 2 games. Do better please

Half of these issues were either mitigated or outright solved by the time D1's life cycle was over, and unlike D2, all of the content is still in the game. The only big complaints I really have going back to D1 is the mantling, which wasn't particularly common in games from that era anyway, 30fps, and the whole orbit thing. Everything else is either only a minor inconvenience or something I actually prefer over D2. The story, for example, is something I really liked from Taken King, because while there was definitely a coherent story there, there were gaps left for your imagination to try to fill in the blanks. I actually _like_ not knowing everything about the eldritch nightmare coming from the dark to murder you, because I feel like every time people actually do tell you, it feels mediocre at best (Pyramids, why couldn't you be the unknowable dark mirror to the Traveler instead of the Witness' empty ships?) and outright ruins an entire faction at worst (FUCKING. This might sound completely crazy and a lot of people won't like the sound of it. But what if they brought the sprint cool down back? It'd slow down all those apes with their Antaeus wards and would probably change the way people play entirely. Being forced to swap between being offensive, defensive, running away; it could make people so much more well rounded. It would make positioning so much more important. I'm not saying it'd solve all our issues. It'd almost definitely cause a long range slow camping meta which isn't a good thing. And it'd never happen in the current state of D2 because of how important all our movement is and how far we've come since those times. But I think it would be a cool game mode: short to medium range maps only, no class abilities and the D1 sprint cool down. Or maybe a fatigue function so you could consecutively slide if you wanted but your stamina bar would go down and you'd have to let it recharge.

Things I remember from D1 that people wouldn't miss: 1 - The HORRIFIC content draughts - TTK until the April Update was ROUGH. 6 months of basically 0 new content at all bar SRL (a 3 week event) and Crimson Days (a 3 week event). I spent that time FARMING GRIMOIRE CRUCIBLE SCORE. It was a stale af experience 2 - Neigh unparalleled levels of gatekeeping for raids - D1 Year 1 Ghorn, all that needs to be said 3 - A poor balancing system between Resilience, Recovery, Mobility - The Ram can burn for all I care, that shit sucked to play against. Other than that for a jump or two there was no need for Mobility so it was just more optimal to run high resil and recovery and hunters even ditched some mobility for extra resil or recovery 4 - Rahool decrypting purple engrams into lower rarity gear - Purple stuff was RARE in year 1 from world drops and the you getting them decrypted into LOWER rarities sucked 5 - Horrific material systems for legendary weapons - Needing ascendant shards and ascendant energy (the radiant pieces) to upgrade your gear sucked and you could quite easily go a long time without upgrading your gear 6 - Nightfall Rewards - you could literally complete a nightfall strike ONCE (per character) for your weekly gear drop and you quite easily get shards while other people got exotics, hereby cucking you for the week 7 - Separated inventory for EVERYTHING - this is a double edged sword as you could carry max stacks of things like synthesis across all 3 characters, BUT it also meant all the rare materials like coins, motes, passage coins, and your shards and energy were all blank on newer characters. Had to either transfer them before dim existed or farm them all up again BONUS 8 - doing the Dark Drinker Quest on a Titan - Iykyk, this SUCKED (at least the weapon was ballin)

It doesn’t matter what guns you had or how leveled your subclass was(oh yeah don’t forget using XP to level subclasses), if you were good at the game you could still have fun and use whatever you felt like.

People seem to forget that Activision stated that Forsaken Underperformed and that Destiny 2 didn't need a expansion that size. Their plan was to increase Microtransactions even more. Really surprising that people's memories are so bad

Reason to not miss Activision #1: Bungie is worse in the lazyness and Greed department. so we still got Activision, but worse.

@@CedricBassman How? D2 year 1 had lootboxes
@CedricBassman
@CedricBassman 10 месяцев назад
@@gabriel_gaming1283 And guess what, they're still in the Game. Lets not forget insane prices for essentially recycled Assets from D1. The fact they pump on their entire resources into the Eververse and then come out saying it is too hard to design one Armor Set with 3 Shaders *PER YEAR* for the regular Game. The Fact that they now Sell Dungeon Keys extra! The Fact that they just upped the Price of the Season Pass so you can no longer buy it for 10 bucks. It costs 12 now but you actually gotta go buy 15 Dollar worth of Silver. The entire Eververse Store situation, which everyone blamed on Activision back in the day, got progressively worse at an alarming speed *after Bungie split from Activision*

Holy sh*t I forgot about sprint cooldown Now my personal reasons for missing D1: No Wrath of the Machine no No Land Beyond (most broken gun in the entire game for pvp) No Ice Breaker (most broken and versatile gun in the entire game for pve) No voidlock trickshots with tri-bomb An actual reason to use Golden Gun And now the hot take: slow movement > fast movement, I dunno D1 pvp positioning and map knowledge felt like mattered more

No mantelling was the killer. I was the first in our group to get D2... I was telling everyone what we could now do. Raid jumping puzzles killed me, followed by the laughter of the raid team for many minutes.

D1 is where 90% of the fun i had in this franchise was experienced. I just dont really enjoy D2. Most of my friends who i played with have quit because the direction of the game is oppositional to where we would like it. Nothing really seems like it matters anymore and everything feels like a chore. D1 will always hold a special place in my heart.

D1 had much more vault space than 60. Not sure what he's talking about.

Also would rather have a consistent, better, but more open story which could go a lot of places than one that actively shits the bed and sees no problem with it but I'll admit no one read grimoire cards. Granted I'm not gonna go read a whole lore book in d2 but at least now it's hidden in the game than on some website.

#1 is a moot point. The vault in D2 is actually SMALLER than the Vault in D1 when you count the number of weapons and armor we have now compared to D1. #3 was better in D1. Having to take the time to level a weapon is just objectively better gameplay than just 'getting' the weapon at full power. D2 way is just freaking L A Z Y. #4 hasnt really changed 'that' much. #5 Exclusives suck .. and I'm a Playstation owner. #6 ... we literally still did that in D2 until like .. a year ago LOL. #11 This should STILL be a thing in PVP. 100% I will die on that hill.

Patrol destinations had literally only 1 spawn point and no fast travel points in larger destinations. No Public Event indicator so we had to rely on third party apps and websites.

We prefer D1 for its visuals, the eary and dark almost foggy feel. D2 is more vibrant, brightly lit with constant clear skies. The setting went from Dark souls to Super Mario but quality of life updates(vault, loadouts, perks etc) are better in D2.
