We show all the details on how to wire an overland power setup into the rear of your camping rig. We tell the proper size wire to use when wiring up to power accessories, how to wire a fuse panel / power distribution block, power outlets, USB chargers, along with how to connect it to a secondary battery. Our power station idea is a simple DIY project that only takes a few hours to conquer. Before you know it you'll have enough power in the back to supply your added electrical accessories.
Here's the link to the video where we install our second battery: • Affordable Dual Batter...
Below are the Amazon Affiliate links to most of the parts we used:
The fuse box: amzn.to/3cBjIP0
The outlet panel: amzn.to/3wcJ1Pl
The extra USB charging port we added. (It comes in other colors.): amzn.to/39qrM3q
The protective sleeve: amzn.to/31xxH2b
The 8AWG wire: amzn.to/3fs9ouP
The Anderson plug: amzn.to/2PJLDDG
The 40amp circuit breaker: amzn.to/2Q4ucxT

The wiring looks great. Always wondered how long the battery would last also. Great job.

Have same type of setup. Ran the cables inside. Also would add that the breaker manufacturers recommend pressing that small button when returning that small arm to in position. Great vids. Keep em coming

Great job guys. Obviously an insulated blanket around fridge makes a big difference also. Thinking of doing something similar in front cab of Earthcruiser to keep Ham Radio and new Radio install off main starter battery. Do a real life test and let us know how it does. Stay safe 🍻🍻

Nice work guys 👍. Simple and clean. Excellent work on the wiring In a recent video ASPW from 4XOverland talks about voltage drops due to connections. Would love to see the voltage drop flow of this setup in a follow up video. I.E. voltage at the battery, at after the breaker, at the input junction of the panel and then the fuse box in the panel.

Without the on/off switch, wont the ports draw power even without anything plugged in?
@WanderlostOverland
@WanderlostOverland 2 года назад
Yes, a little. When we're not using the panel for days or weeks, we typically turn the breaker under the hood off.
@codybabb147
@codybabb147 2 года назад
Couldnt you have grounded to the frame back at the panel instead of running a ground from the battery
@WanderlostOverland
@WanderlostOverland 2 года назад
Some people do that. We prefer to have our two batteries completely separated from each other.

Great video! I have a Tacoma and looking to do something similar - but not with a dual battery set up... Would you recommend this schematic to simply run or charge while driving without fear of it draining my battery?

Did you connect the 12 volts meter on the fuse box ? Not to the battery? Building my system thanks
@michaelfrymus
@michaelfrymus 2 года назад
I'm just a bit confused on how I'd connect my whole system together... Unlike in yours, that you discarded, I do have a master switch. I have the same fuse box and USB ports. But how do I connect all the USB ports to the master switch?

How do the Amazon components compare to higher quality components that you’ve used on other projects? I’m wondering if Powerwerx products are worth the extra money.

I know very little about batteries and such. Going to do a dual battery on my fj, but im building a trailer to put my rtt and stuff on. I want the trailer to have a battery and solar. Is it possible to have a connection between the fj and trailer to charge the trailer battery while traveling??
@WanderlostOverland
@WanderlostOverland 3 года назад
Absolutely! When we did our 4Runner dual battery we made provisions for just that. we ran large enough cables to the rear to accommodate the extra 25amp to run a separate dc-dc charger on the trailer.

Quick question for y'all. How did you connect the tips to the wire of your Anderson plug? Soldier or crimped? Thank you J&C kuehlkuest
@WanderlostOverland
@WanderlostOverland 3 года назад
We always crimp these.
@jonnybkuehl878
@jonnybkuehl878 3 года назад
@@WanderlostOverland Thank you. Any particular crimper you recommend?
@WanderlostOverland
@WanderlostOverland 3 года назад
@@jonnybkuehl878 It takes something more then a "normal" set of crimpers. The terminals are very HD. We actually made our own out of an old set of bolt cutters. You could get everything ready then offer a ten or twenty dollar bill to a local car stereo shop to do it for you.
