It’s not web swinging related but the wall crawling needs a massive overhaul because it’s janky and there are places like the underbellies of bridges that Spider-Man should be able to cling to but can’t for some reason. He also struggles to get over ledges and exterior air conditioners. I recently played through The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game and despite its many problems the wall crawling was excellent.

This is a problem the first 2 games had. I was really hoping theyd fix it for spiderman 2 but all they did was improve the animation for wall crawling and made it slightly faster. Hoping for spiderman 3 they allow us to cover any surface and make it so that we dont get stuck on random ledges. Kind of insane how bad the wall crawling is compared to everything else considering that's like 50% of spiderman lol

Something I’d personally love to see is the return of web climbing, there’s been times in my SM2 playthrough where I thought about how cool it would be if as you’re coming up to a ledge that’s too high for you to swing over, being able to climb up the web to gain the height and just barely make it over. It would be a cool way to correct yourself if a web line’s trajectory isn’t necessarily taking you as high as you need to go. Used it all the time in ultimate and WOS

I'm surprised you didn't mention they should bring back the air trick combo quips! I didn't know in the Miles Morales game that when you successfully swing after several consecutive air tricks that Miles will react like "That was awesome!" Or something along those lines. Be cool if it functioned like a pseudo-style meter, to reward the player for expressive traversal.

Further clarification. He's able to quip when you swing after 5 successful tricks. And with how much finesse they put into Spiderman 2, you'd think they would at least reuse some Miles lines and give Peter unique ones.

Not only would running on the ground be a great addition but it’d be cool if they added an animation where you could glide your hand on the ground/water like what tasm2 did or in infinity war when Peter jumped out the bus and surfed on water

Yea I agree, you can definitely tell the game wasn’t necessarily built for 0 swing assist in mind, because if it was I feel like they’d have a ton of animations for if you just barely skimmed the ground at the bottom of your swing.

@@NopeNothingD9i agree i had the same exact thought i rlly wanted that animation of his hand skimming the water and i also noticed there kinda was an animation like c0lin said but i do feel like there should be more animations for when you barely skim the ground. i think him scraping the ground with his hand would also work cuz if you remember in sm1 when he first makes his advanced suit in the “HELLO NEW YORK” cutscene he does that motion too

Great video, it’s clear you understand what SM2 fans want from swinging. While I disagree with some of these additions, I would love to be able to grind on rails and poles, the idea never came to me when I was writing my own review, but that sounds so sick. We actually had some pretty similar talking points, great minds think alike!

I've been eagerly awaiting your opinion on this topic, most people who make videos on the traversal haven't even mastered it yet and then say it's too easy. It'd be like loading into a competitive game, winning your first game where your paired against other people who haven't played yet, then quitting cause the game is too easy. Based on your clips you are among the higher skilled players of this game and so I think your view is going to be a little more... educated shall we say. Number one thing for me is much improved parkour. This means upgrading the environment too, of course. Next, better wall and ceiling crawling, crawling down from ledges, etc. Finally, of course, a much bigger, more detailed, and reactive city. Like, if I land on someone’s balcony and they’re there, they need to freak out a bit.

I would add improving wall and ceiling movement. Wall crawling can be somewhat janky at some points, so make wall crawling seamless. And allow walking and running on walls and ceilings as if you are on level ground. That would be intense.

One thing I loved about the first Spider-Man game is the car chases were you swing on top of a speeding vehicle and take out the criminals one by one as they peer out the window before stopping the car with brute strength,it gave us more control as if we were actually there. They did keep this in sm2 but it’s kinda been downgraded, it’s either one or two button presses and then it’s done, where as in the first game there was the button presses to take out the bad guys before doing the quick time event to stop the car. I don’t know if they changed this because people complained about it or they just felt like it.

I agree with everything mentioned minus the web shooter refills as long as it isn’t forced. Just add all of that and wall combat like in web of shadows and we’re set 👍

Web Tricks! - Hold Square + any direction while holding R2 to do tricks on the web Charge Jump from a Web Swing/Doesnt let go until you press jump or release the trigger. (maybe R2/Square/Up could make him pull himself upwards with multiple webs like he does in the comics, movies, and even these games cutscenes)

I love this video and I agree with everything you said. However, being able to wall run down a building is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY! Imagine being able to wall run down a building, web zip on it to gain speed, and then charge jump off that wall. It could also lead to some cool combos in combat, basically, look at Web of Shadows to see what I mean.

Insomniac should add an optional left and right trigger use for left and right web swinging … and switch slo mo to L1 At least make it an option for button layout at the very least it would for sure make web swinging more engaging and fun!!

Tbh the one thing I'd really want is for webs to bend when you go over a corner, as with how it stands if you cross a corner with a Web attached to the same building, it just clips through the building instead of bending (and by proxy shortening) the web

Manual web placements would be a game changer! Zero Swing Assist almost hits that mark, there's a bit more thought process needed when building momentum, you want your webs to hit the highest point on a building so you don't clip the ground. I just hope they can manage the flow of aiming to swing to aiming. If they can keep a smooth transition, just imagine the speed you can get up to. I also fully agree with your thoughts on the "Loop de loops." Allowing it to be accessible from high speeds rather than a dive means more consistent loops, especially if they introduce horizontal loops. Along with that, I would love a mid air sling shot option like Miles pulled off during the Sandman fight. It would add to the traversal kit and personally it would look sick to immediately change directions and keep all momentum.

YES YES YES. Yes all the way with most points (the web fluid thing is whatever). Including the unreal build from gibb0 is a good way to show what is possible. Not only that, but this is a one of a kind type of video to showcase why and how these mechanics could work in the future. Games, like the original SM2 and WoS, have mechanics that feel like they should have been a staple in traversal but weren't. Sliding/running down walls, bouncing off walls, and slingshotting in air were some of my go to moves in the old ones. You didn't skip out on any additions and I'm happy.

Insomiac has to introduced wall damage by accidents of swinging and also they have to remove the animation while shooting the web and swinging at same time. you know what im saying. just web from web shooter, wait 2 or 3 second til web stick to the object, then swing , which will give more realistic feel to the swinging just like in the tasm movies

It would be fun to be able to skim any edge such as walls and the floor like in previous games. It would also be good if you could not only zipline on cars to replace how you need to jump on them precisely now but if you could web to cars and ride behind them like you do in chase crimes. Not traversal related but I also want them to make the throwing objects animation quicker so you can use it in a combo. They did this with throwing weapons at enemys but compared to the throwable items,it starts to make throwable items take too long.

To keep all momentum when swinging into a wall there could be the button timing thing you mentioned, but also paired with a small vertical web zip. That way keeping the momentum actually makes more sense

One thing that I really really want that I've been wanting for a couple of years is to be able to run down a building. I don't know why the hell Insomniac hasn't allowed us to do that yet. Also that fan made Spider-Man game looks really really good.

13:00 Yes, I've wanted this so badly, the wall bouncing. Idk if you're aware, I haven't seen you do it in your gameplay footage... (I only just recently discovered it myself) You can do the wall-hop move.. (the shorter version of jumping out of a wall-run, like what happens when you catch a wall-run just a few feet or so before the wall ends) If you hold R2, the swing button for a second or 2 before you actually hit the wall and transition into a wall-run, then release it immediately as you start the wall-run. It's sort of like Insomniac's version of bouncing off the walls, but you can't do it with a point launch obviously. It also doesn't work that well if you release a web while already close to a wall, and you try and hold R2 then release immediately as you hit the wall. When it doesn't work you'll just stick to the wall, which is annoying, but I've been practicing with it and using it pretty often now. I don't see many people using it in their gameplay videos. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MfepP3cU9qQ.html go to 7:19 in this video and you'll see the wall-hop for yourself. It takes a little getting used to, but hey, it's another traversal move we can use at the very least. I only just discovered this a few days ago, from this video. You'll know that you've got the hang of it when you can do 2-3 of them in a row without ever shooting out a web line lol.

One thing I’d like to see added is adding in sliders for various aspects of the game such as how much damage you deal, how much damage enemies can take, how much speed you generate from swinging, etc. and yes I know the game has higher difficulties but still sometimes when I’m in the middle of the combo the enemy gets knocked out and it just ends my combo abruptly

That whole web fluid thing is cool. Reminds me of Lies of P where the more u use ur weapon u need to repair its durability on the spot with Ps legion arm which is fantastic. Gimmicky but it MAKES SENSE.

I would like to add some of my own constructive criticism for the gameplay overall - Better physics system, sometimes when swinging it feels a little floaty, sometimes the momentum doesnt translate well. Better than in the first game though - Low swinging near the ground is funky and buggy with 0 level steering assistance, spiderman lets go without even touching the ground, it can become very annoying, especially if u are swinging low to pick up speed. They should add the ability to run along the ground and/or graze it while holding the web line, most open-world Spider-Man games have done it. I would like spiderman to be able to hold on to the webline even if u swing upwards. spiderman still lets go automatically after a certain point in the swing. The swinging doesnt work as good for gaining height as it does for distance. Ability to be able to crawl your own web line like Ultimate or WoS. - Wallcrawlling is still horrid and janky, u get stuck over the most random geometry. Wall running feels a little floaty and simplistic, you still can't run down walls for some reason, and the momentum from swinging doesnt carry onto wall running, thats annoying. Web of shadows should be the example to follow, the wall crawlling and running in that game is the best out of all the spiderman games. - More combat animations, it's the same 4 string combo. More variation. Arkham games are a good example - The black suit should deal more damage than all the other suits and have its own move set, both for plot and gameplay reasons, surge mode is also the same animations, it becomes repetitive after a while. Web of shadows once again and shattered dimensions are prime examples. - Add a charge jump button option for swinging for quick height gain, and from surfaces, like a wall, similar to the web launches or how you can charge jump from poles and lights. Same applies to web launches. The parkour system has so much potential to be something amazing. If they adapt it to be able to traverse seamlessly with more depth from parkour straight to swinging, and wallcrawling, it could be amazing, they just have to further develop it, the same goes for combat. Insomniac has something special in their hand, they just need resources and time.

Man you mentioned just about every agility feature I want added, reworked parkour, wall jumping, air tricks, web wing tricks, etc but I’d also want wall tricks/wall combat( I personally feel like wall crawling could be innovated to be a lot more engaging and fun if it was given more love and creativity)

My problem with wallrunning is that you can do it forever. Dark mentioned the speed being completely insane relative to your ground sprint, but I think the real problem is having so much speed for so long. In a lot of the older games you could only wallrun for a couple seconds before either diverting or gradually slowing to a crawl. I definitely prefer the latter option. However, after this grace period, holding R2 should instead make you fast crawl. Real spiders crawl faster than Spider-Man does in this game relative to their size. We also have pull-up on cross, which I think you should only be allowed to use once, or twice if one of them is a flip over. This does not affect fire escapes. I basically self-impose this already Just like the wingsuit delay, you have to wait about a second after releasing from one line before you can shoot another. If you want to shoot another line very quickly to gain height or swing hand over hand, it won't let you do anything. Fix this so it works as long as you release R2. If you keep holding it the delay can continue to serve as a timing assist for casual players Wallbouncing in the movie game is too hard for me to control. I suck at it, and I don't like it. No matter which way you're pointing, it always has an equal and opposite directional reaction to your bonk, which is realistic, but not very expressive. For this game it should be omnidirectional to where your left stick is pointed, so you have to flick it where you want to go or you'll just get a normal tictac jump. Past the 90 degree mark there can be some reasonable limitations so you can't use wallbounces to turn all the way around on a dime because that would be overpowered. The soft grab state where you can eject off a wall or off the wall attack but can't crawl on it that's currently in the game should be removed and streamlined into the crawling state so there's never any doubt about which state you're going to enter. This will also fix problems with the combat! If you dodge or bonk into a wall you should be able to do any wall-related maneuver at any time

I definitely think some of these are great ideas, but honestly I think it wouldn't work well for the type of game Insomniac is going for, as from what I've seen it's more of a loose and fast, easier to master traversal thing. I think wallrunning is also alright considering the dash, web wings and actual swinging are way faster

@@poggestfrog Yeah, it's the one case where it would actively stop from moving quickly because you made a mistake. Even if you're paying zero attention to what direction you're going and what's in front of you, the vast majority of bonks will be low enough to clear, so this is just for climbing tall skyscrapers. Failing that, mashing cross to get more pull-ups the way casual players do will cause you to automatically back eject out on the first available frame once you slow to a crawl, allowing you to swing back into the wall at a bit of an angle and get another wallrun, basically the game softly suggesting that you should do something else and stop spamming the same move. Another way you could get more verticality is to allow you to use boosts on walls, so you can have any combination of one pull-up, one flip over, and one up boost

Yes I hate when I land on a wall in combat and I’m not allowed to crawl or run on the wall for a second. I also hate how it forces you off the wall if you do nothing. It really screws you over when your between a rock and a hard place. Like when an electric net is above you to restrict you from jumping and a parry only attack is coming to restrict you from doing an off the wall attack. I know what I’m doing. The game needs to stop trying to read my mind and allow me to fuck up until I can do what I want with full control. This lack of control is just annoying and unnecessary. If I dodge into a wall I should be able to crawl up the wall to safety immediately and delay my off the wall attack. There’s no reason that I shouldn’t be able to do an off the wall attack from a neutral crawling state. Also it takes way too long to get into position to shoot webs at enemies from a wall. You should be able to do it regardless of what stance your in on the wall.

Good ideas. The issue is insomniacs engine is barely scraping by. The cracks are really noticeable but it’s just about look. It all feels to pre programmed and like you can only do what’s intended. Nothing feels really earned except swing speed but even that’s rare. Also give us mkre to wallrunning lmao. It’s so limited. Same with running up a building. No excuse to be the same shit from 2 games ago.

I wish they had an optional left and right trigger use of left and right webs for the swinging honestly. You should just be able to press L1 to go into the slow mo to look around but then use left trigger to swing to the left and vise versa. At least make it an option for button layout at the very least.

If they added do a wild websiting after you did something or after you did a perfect launch from swinging or after doing a trick it basically increases speed and you can do it twice in a row and increases traversal.

Yo, GENUINELY this is what insomniac needs to work on for SPIDER-MAN 3 as far as traversal & CALL IT QUITS. Then move on to animations, combat & Focus HEAVY on storytelling. They don’t need to have a board meeting trying to crack the Da Vinci code on what to add to traversal… *Zach Galifianakis math meme*

One of my biggest asks for the 3rd game is for the city to expand inwards. By that, I mean give us free access to subways and sewer systems. Let us challenge ourselves by navigating small tunnels and dodging oncoming trains. One of the very few things the Spider-Man 3 tie-in game did right was giving us that vast underground playground, so it'd be awesome to see it done on modern systems.

1st of all , Raspberry Waffles lol, 2nd of all , i pretty much agree with all your points that you made in this video especially the one with the manhole cover. I feel like they can add this now tho then polish it when they start to work on Spider-man 3. Another thing the combat can be better also. It's already great but i feel it can be better. Yk how God of war have a light attack button and a heavy attack button? Well spider-man can have a punch button as square and kick button as triangle but of course the web zip button have to change as well and that will be easy. We will just have to hold down the aim button and press either square or triangle for a different animation. This will add more variety to the combat system. Especially for combos like feel like we can do some crazy stuff as Peter, Miles ,and Cindy if we get to play as her.

i think insomniac looked at wall traversal but decided against it because there were animations left over in spider-man remastered that had a sort of slide move while on a wall

What I think would be cool is instead of aiming to shoot regular webs, you could aim your zip webs wherever you want. It would give you some more control to go exactly where you want

I've watched alot of your videos and others and honestly when we talk about traversal no one ever brings up the L3 click just brings you down, sometimes I wanna get slingshot off a web and not have that generic spiderman pose most of the time imagine if you just L3 click and you just follow the momentum maybe he is Straight like a bullet or if you L3 then □ to fo a trick you still follow that arc. All i wanna do is curl up into a vall and slam into a enemy. if you wanna go down hold the down on the stick and and click and that would make you go down. Another idea I had which would be easy to implement into the game is using x or □ mid swing, when you are close to the ground you and drag your hand on the ground or walk for a bit while still be on the web and jump back into the air etc. The swing assist not only keeps you in the middle of a street. But it creates an invisible cube over the floor to keep Spider-Man up over traffic. Instead of just a slide, they could have implemented a trick system with animations to go along with it. With swing assist on if holding just r2 down you stay above the cube, but if you hold or press x or □ mid swing spiderman giving people high fives, steals hot dogs, pourkour along cars while keeping the momentum you have from swinging, etc. Or at least at the bear minimum, the swing out out/ into swing animations that already look like they are supposed to interact with the ground, you could do it with that. All that mixed with the slider would cause more risk and reward. I think this swinging system is amazing, but you still can't replicate most Spider-Man swings from no ways home or far from home. A sliding mechanic would be cool on the ground as well or on walls.

1. I would honestly add the ability to loop de loop infinitely because yes. 2. Dual web swinging and being able to slingshot by moving backwards to shoot yourself forward 3. Optional web fluid mechanic 4. That reputation mechanic from the tasm 2 licensed game (the super underrated game) but better and optional 5. The web rush from the tasm games (optional obviously) 6. Being able to hold your web while on the ground but also keep you momentum when hitting the ground while swinging

RASBERRY WAFFLES But anyways honestly I loved this list other than using the manhole cover as a way to traverse bc spidey can still grind using his boots like we saw a very tiny bit of in spm1 and even in the movies. But yes we need to - be able to slingshot while swinging and pick and choose when to shoot two web lines in spm3 - it’d be cool to have a small dot like in the options in spm2 to connect webs while swinging or at least connect webs to helicopters, boats and cars not just buildings - having the “Over Hand Scramble” (as the tasm2 movie likes to call it) would be cool to do which was in ultimate spm ps2 - we need to be able to traverse down walls and allow players to keep our momentum when point launching into a wall - just like in the video I think whether it shows our speed or some sort of indicator but we need to be able to hold onto our weblines as long as we want rather than just diving then doing 1 loop de loop and it forced us to let go of our web Otherwise that’s really it for traversal

I would love love LOVE if they upgraded the loop de loop and allowed you to spider/venom dash during it for an even bigger speed boost. I’d also love if every suit got 1-3 moves unique to that suit. Also would love just a general animation overall, the corner thwip and loop de loop get a little old when you see Spider-Man do the same animation every time 🥴

One thing that I think would improve the gimmick of the zero assist feature is a head on collision. You can die from falling to the ground. You can die from hitting the top of a building during a loop. But you can’t die from web gliding straight on into a building. And I think the zero assist damage would be greatly improve is swinging or gliding too fast & too straight forward into a building was a concern. Instead of defaulting into a wall crawl. It’s a little thing but I think it’ll be a good thing to put into the third game.

They need to add rag-doll physics. It would be so cool if you swung into a corner of a building and it would stun you, have a different stun animation depending on how you hit certain objects and how fast you hit them, perhaps cutting off your current swing and giving u a 1 sec delay before shooting another web to save yourself from falling. Ofc this would include splatting into buildings if ur going at it at high speeds as well as absolutely demolishing npc if u swing into them. This should all be an option that u can toggle on or off depending on ur mood ofc since it isn’t lore accurate.

I know this is very unlikely to happen, but I'd like a prequel game with more realistic physics and none of those automatic correction maneuvers. I just like the idea of pairing a more challenging swinging system with a story of a younger inexperienced Spidey. The overall tone could be more low-key chill as well. Pizza deliveries, stopping petty crimes while missing dates. C-tier villains. Perhaps an overhauled less passive parkour system. I'm not suggesting this as a replacement to the current system, but more like an experimental side dish.

This might be a lil dumb but listen: In itsv when Miles is running to the building where they fight kingpin he jumps from trucks and cars or runs while he has a web and I thought it was cool so maybe adding on to vehicle parkour where you can press a button and it does a cool flip similar to a quick time event. I js think it could be smth cool to see even if it’s not super important

I also wish the suits with capes or jackets had air resistance applied to them. If you notice, all of the suits with cloth physics only are affected by gravity.

I would love to see a infinite momentum system, if you go top speed, and then try something different to go even faster the game won't really let you.

I honestly am fine with the swinging as it is, but what i truly want a parkour system that keeps the momentum and requires a bit if skill to pull off well. I feel like what makes the best swinging is using the buildings and surrounding too show a element of mastery

I don't think the gliding loop would work physics wise, even if you build up a lot of momentum. Sure, you can almost reach the peak of the loop, but you being like a plane without an engine, there is nothing to trust you forward once you're upside down. Also, you can keep the momentum loss, when running into walls, consistent by pressing triangle just before you hit the wall. The web wings automatically make you run up walls.

One thing that’s a problem is that when I web zip somewhere or I’m swinging around while the enemies are shooting at me they are still able to hit me while I’m going at so much speed that should be fixed also

Truth be told, I know Fortnite did it well but manual web placements would be messy in Insomniac's system, in my opinion. I guess if it's an option that's fine, but I don't really see what it adds, as it's basically something the game does already, just without you seeing. I guess the choice? Also thank you for shouting out Gibb, been working on a video highlighting his game and other things I want to see in SM3 too. Btw, lots of his inspiration comes from the 20 year old SM2 ;) Lastly, I get why you don't like the Dark Space video, I think it's too negative personally in terms of an analysis, but I do think you're too hard on it. He does bring up good points, he just doesn't balance out his commentary fairly. Anyway, great video, lots of things I've also thought about for the future!

These are all great suggestions, but unfortunately I don't think Insomniac can deliver them all on SM3. When you think about what they did add to SM2 (web wings, increased speed, slingshot launch, loops, corner tethers and swing assistance meter), it feels like some of these suggestions would require too much work for them, like the manhole stuff (which is incredible btw). I'd like to see everything you mentioned in Spider-Man 3, but I think we should only expect some of them to make the cut.

I think that the entire parkour system needs work. When I think of Spidey Peter-Parkour I think of the final swing in TASM 1 where he dives through pipes and does a mix of crawling, flipping and swinging on pipes looking like Arno from Ac unity on drugs, where as the parkour system in this game is kind of useless. It would be a good way to update the map too, by adding more parkour in queens and Brooklyn than Manhattan

Honestly I think an easy improvement Spider-Man 3 could make is changing Peter's upwards/forwards boosts to web slingshots, kinda like in tasm 2 where holding jump mid air would boost you upwards. And the forwards boost could just be a flashier version of the web zip using two hands, or if you're above buildings or there's nothing to swing from Peter could have an explosive burst of webs bellow/behind him to launch himself. I just think the spider arms look horrendous on most suits and ruin any immersion, especially in movie and comic suits that definitely shouldn't have mechanical spider arms.

I'd really like it if there was an option to switch perspectives when you're on the wall or ceilings, ik tasm 2 did it. Obviously it wouldnt be a fixed thing and you could change it in settings but idk i just think actually FEELING like you're on the ceiling if you wanted to would be cool. Very niche thing but i wouldn't mind it being added
