The hardest part is gathering my thoughts to get my point across effectively. I tend to overthink or doubt myself in what I want to say. It's easier online cause I can always read over before sending. If only my brain can do the same.

Us quiet people all suffer from this so we take a very good amount of time to think of something to say that will have valid points. But since we’re so quiet when we do talk everyone listens because it’s uncommon and a rarity this also can help with charisma because of how quiet we are. Quiet people’s eye contact is more intense than someone who talks a lot.

Same. I take more time to reply during verbal communications and some people say I'm quiet or shy. I overthink and get anxious of what the other person will think if I say right away what I'm thinking. I have to repeat the sentence in my brain and decide before saying out loud. Sometimes, I get nervous and my volume gets low. Friends, relatives often tell me to speak louder. I need to repeat the same sentence over and over. The silent moments just feel awkward to me.

Stop trying, and just be yourself for world value someone who’s authentic. I grow up shy and didn’t speak even if my life were to depend on it because of Insecurities. Now I communicate without limitations. Oftentimes I am introvert other times extrovert it depends on the circumstances, but I never lose my core. Water takes the shape of its container, but never looses its value. I wish you all the best 🙏🏾

Having a weak communication skills really sucks and it kills me everyday. I always mind what people may think about me. I was scared of judgments. I can't be me. When I was about to show everyone what I really am, the thing that always blocks me from doing that was this negative thinking of mine that what if people judge me? What might others think about me? I always compare myself to others and I always look down on myself. I don't have confidence and this is really annoying. I don't want to feel this anymore. The reason why I got dumped by my ex boyfriend is because of my weak communication skills. I can't communicate what I really feel and I;m always out of words. It's annoying to be this shy and silent. I want to learn but I don't know how to start. I want to help myself to improve. Please give me some tips or if someone there have a time, please train me. I'm so frustrated. T_T

I’m literally the same . Don’t feel so bad it’s normal people often have this problem too. I often think to myself this is why I should not get into a relationship with A female because I don’t want to hurt myself. When in reality I need to work on myself and the way I think so I can be more effective when talking to my partner. I’ve came along way I used to never talk to people but then I started practicing and got better. Never doubt yourself keep pushing and strive to be better at communicating with people. Practice a lot while being in public or in the store focus and understand to others you are communicating with, stay true to your core. You are not alone.

You are not alone I am in my late 30’s, and I am learning this aspect of me. Especially code switching at work. In my neighborhood and in my environment I can express myself. But in the workplace especially in the medical field. I can feel intimidated by the extensive vocabulary being used daily or even having conversation with my colleagues. Say some affirmation like I am a great communicator. Start believing it. Words are spells!!!

I do my best to "speak truth without blame or judgement" (avoiding pejoratives or demeaning and condescending tones, etc.), to maintain a conscious curiosity in the conversation partner's perspective/point of view, maintain appropriate levels of humour, as well as assume they are speaking from a place of wisdom in at least one of the 9 intelligences (mental, emotional, kinesthetic, musical, esthetic, etc.) I also don't argue with acutely emotional individuals with an agenda - best to either re-visit the topic when things have "cooled off" or walk away altogether. Er, if anyone cares what I do. LOL

Great video! Number 9 is key, not only for persuasion, but for actually understanding others. If people believe we cannot understand their perspective, the chances of genuine communication diminish. And, even pretending to understand...can actually help you understand. But if we become combative instead, communication possibilities either become convoluted or extremely diminished.

My greatest challenge is being positive while I'm conversation and smiling. I dont smile for any reason and I have a hard time making eye contact since I dont want to look at people when I'm not smiling since I dont want them to feel like I'm unhappy with them, but then I feel bad for not making eye contact and then my attitude just feels negative like I conveyed bad or wrong feeling to the person.

You don't have to smile with your mouth. You can smile with your eyes. Even unintentionally. As you listen it will naturally happen that the look in your eyes will change and.. it sounds to me like you don't want to look into their eyes because your actually trying to hide your unhappiness. Thinking they may notice it and think it has something to do with them. But why do you think they would even see that? Most people are just as focused on themselves as you are with yourself. So they are worried about you and how you see them as well in most cases. So be yourself and know that's good enough. Uniquely, and you are loved 🙏✨ everyone who said ""me too"" I hope you read this. 💞

There is no wrong feelings, your feelings are ALWAYS valid and however your think someone feels about it they most likely don't. If they mention it or seen uncomfortable feel free and brave to say," I'm feeling blah today don't mind me". Your don't have to explain you don't ever have to explains your feelings darling. I'm wondering Anthoney are you pretty young?

The paraphrasing what you are hearing is a fantastic tool in your communication tool belt. I would just add that you as you put this fantastic tip into practice make sure that you do not scrunch your face and furrow your eyebrows, this could make someone feel like you are attacking them. I say this because it is a natural response when we are thinking and attempting to formulate what we have just heard to furrow the eyebrows and scrunch the face. What a fantastic video with super practical tips you can immediately put into practice. Thank you for sharing!

I went threw a lot of abused threw out my life it led to memory lose which then became a common routine of me not having good communication skills because no one ever wanted to talk to me . I just blocked out so much that I hurt me trying to keep from hurting myself . Ya I know how that sounds but it is true . So now if I am having a short talk with a random person I am okay but if I have to take time and show things others have not shown much to me called respect . My dog I had to put to sleep at only 3 months old showed me unconditional love even when I had to clean her face and bother her by putting stuff on her she still showed love I was not used to seeing all to me and my husband she wanted nothing from us only to just be herself and not ever be anything but herself which we gladly obliged. She used to climb a ramp made for her to be able to set next to us at our table . Even when her health slipped bad she was never angry that she was dieing . I forget this stuff because of the memory lose then I talk and it all comes back so remember no two humans are alike the next time you read a person's comment that makes no since you may just be changing a life by just letting the person talk and bring back entire parts of a person's life . My life is so fragmented I never feel like a full human.

Here's a good way to improve your communication skills: make sure you always have a filter. I have a neighbor who is 24 and often says things he shouldn't. He's not intentionally a jerk, but he can be an ass at times. One day, he was expressing his pain and guilt about it. He said "I always say the wrong thing. Sometimes I just lack filter and tact. Maybe I am a jerk. No wonder people sometimes feel like they have to lecture me, like my mom and my sister. They make me feel like a bratty child at times that needs a scolding. I'm so embarrassed about it. Often times I feel I just shouldn't speak at all, to eliminate all the risks. I guess I'm really pathetic, huh?" I didn't respond, because he was totally right. He says something inappropriate or perhaps offensive (even if he doesn't mean to), and his mom and older sister have to tell him to stop or something. What was I supposed to say to comfort him? You can't comfort someone who's down on themselves if what they say is true. There was nothing I could've and should've said, right?

I’ve had a traumatic brain injury that resulted in a coma, and icu for 14 days. Then a total of 68 days in the hospital with outpatient treatment for the next year. This happened in 2004 when I was 24 years old. I used to talk to a lot of people but now I don’t talk to nobody but family and the two other guys that I work with. I’m single, never married. Everything is like 20 times harder for me than the majority of people out there. I’m not making excuses because I still work hard and make good money. But I just flew in to the right place at the right time. Lately I’ve been thinking that something is wrong with me and I know what it is and I want to change that’s why am watching these videos. Lol. I had to use the 10 sec rewind button an insane amount of times. Active listening is one of biggest weaknesses. This sht gonna be hard asf for me. I can’t help but space out whenever someone is speaking to me. Idk why I’m like this 😭😭

All the tips seem to be pretty accurate but i wanna add more: Be more clear, and honest about your opinion than being nice.... I've learned somewhere that a debate makes a conversation more interesting as some ideas and thoughts are exchanged...

Everytime I talk to someone, I feel like I have this bad habbit of trying to find ways to make a joke and then when I fail to deliver it, people stop taking me seriously. I know that being serious all the time doesn’t work either.. just have to find the balance

Even though I usually have no problems communicating people project there bad habits on to me I used to live by this so we'll. Though my greatest challenge is talking over other's and noticing body language.

This is a great video, summarizing what is needed to communicate effectively. However, the text section shows language that now makes it impossible for me to use it in my classes to teach better communication. too bad for me....

My written English skills are exemplary. However, my spoken word leaves a lot to be desired. This may be because I seldom speak to others vocally. I am always alone and thus have not perfected vocal communications in any of my languages.
