123 Slaughter Me Street Retrospective 

Seeing a video on this game really brings me back. I remember when I was younger finding this game terrifying, but nowadays I just think the characters and the overall gameplay loop of it are pretty goofy. It's definitely a game worth discussing, but I don't really think it ever had the potential to be a classic or get more coverage than it currently does. Great video as always!

John Kolbek said himself that the game was not meant to bounce off the success of fnaf, and it had been an idea he had for a while, but just didn’t know how the put it to use, while yes fnaf may have had some influence with it getting release, it wasn’t made specifically because of fnaf’s success Also for further reference, the greeter is a girl

Hi. I know this is a year late, but I'm John Kolbek. I'm the co creator of this game and I feel your review of this game was very justified! All your points were things we struggled with. We literally had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. However... I Will say this. We weren't trying to compete with fnaf. My original idea came from a nightmare I had, where I was trying to escape a building that was plagued with these sort of .. dead puppets. So, being an old school gamer (really old school) , I wanted to recreate an arcade game experience. Something that was basic, but addictive, like Pac-Man or Tempest. 123 SMS was supposed to be a classic arcade experience. But I guess it didn't translate that well due to the wake of FNAF. Either way, we were limited on resources and did the best we could as indie devs. Thank you for bringing life back into this old classic!

SMS was it's own thing far from FNAF, and to be quite honest with you, the reason it never got the spotlight is because fnaf was holding it for so long at the time of the release, there is a remake coming out that looks AAA and a bunch of other stuff coming out so it's not dead in the slightest and its gotten crazier bc its literally one dude doing all the main stuff now and it looks AAA.

Honestly, I don't feel like these designs captured the spooky puppet look as much as they could have. Just look at the puppets in something like Don't Hug me I'm scared. I think the designs of the main trio did a good job at balancing between children's mascots while still feeling slightly off. The characters here just feel very generic, I can't picture them as being part of a children's show like sesame street, and for me that takes away from the horror. Also, you should totally review the sequel.

I'd greatly recommend the second game but not for the game itself but more so discussion on the potential the series has. The concept for the third game was interesting and currently the developers are working on a Remake of 123 SMS 1 under the name SMS Evolutions even bringing back a scrapped enemy for the original game. It looks decent and hopefully can revive interest in the series.

Well it seems like some of your criticism for the game might be addressed, because if I remember correctly, the two devs are actually working on a remaster of this game. The characters' models have been updated, the game actually requires you to look around with your mouse instead of the on-the-rails type controls the game had previously, and it seems the final floors will be distinct from the rest (the teaser shows a floor that is on fire while you're being chased by what seems to be a completely different puppet). The remaster is titled "123 Slaughter Me Street: Evolutions" and their development progress is being documented in their official Impulse Game Studios youtube channel.

The plot twist of the main character actually being a psychopath and that the puppets aren't real is kinda weird, but not terrible.

The sequence at 8:10 is worth the whole video

I would love to see you covering the "abandoned lab's floor" it's an epic fnaf fan game that mostly just Polish people know because it was originally made for Polish RU-vidr "Eleven". Abandoned lab's floors" (ABL) has 3 parts and pixel art in this game looks awesome! I hope one day you will cover those games :D

The second game is actually a prequel, so it explains the story a bit more. Also, I feel like the game does have a good amount of coverage on RU-vid. DAGames made a song about it that's currently at 6.9 million views. Most of the videos covering the game have a good amount of views. Gomotion made a video on the series somewhat recently too. There was even a FNF mod made based on the game. There's only less coverage of it compared to other popular indie horror games because there isn't much to it. The series didn't last very long either, so only a limited number of fans were able to be accumulated.

Wow I kind of forgot about this game but this video brought back so many memories. This game freaked me out when I was younger and the second really creeped me out but I have so many good memories of watching gameplay of this game and playing it for myself with my sister. Overall yeah it doesn’t really hold up today but when it came out it was something special to me

with all of the remasters of old fnaf fangames/similar early fnaf era indie horror games, id LOVE to see a remaster of it someday!

If I remember correctly, this game has an entire in universe RU-vid series about the puppets which is really cool imo. I think the passion behind this game is something to applaud if you can look past how the games turned out

The floor complete sound reminds me of the item get jingles from the Metroid games.

There's a theory about the puppets and what they represent: The *Follower* represents the cops after him. The *Greeter* represents his daughter. The *Waiter* represents the police dogs.

yes please do a video on the second one. it has more lore, quality, variety, characters and much more. it is so vast and much greater than the first one that I hgihgly recommend it to you and I know you'd love it and then see why we would want to see your opinion on the game. and yeah it's the one reason why I don't like to think about these games because I get so sad that this is most likely it and there's little to nothing we could do about it

I'm sad that the series basically ended in the pretty bad second game. The first game has such a unique atmosphere, and those fire exit transition scenes are just my favorite.

I enjoy this content please make this a series where you cover different games doesn't even need to be indie horror but it makes sense since this is what you've grown your channel on

I love this game to death, sure the graphics and gameplay arent the best but you can tell theres charm in it, it makes me sad how this game has been forgotten my most people, but im looking forward to the remaster they are making, also great video!

fun fact they was a scraped puppet known as the hunter he look to be a Snuffleupagus or an elephant in the first game he was replaced by the waiter he was planned to be in the second but scraped to do time constraints not many knew about the hunter but it could be in it new game evolution.

I remember comment on their videos a long time ago, basically it was me saying how sad it was that their game didn’t get the attention it deserved. And oddly enough, they offered a copy for Markiplier to play. But they never got any results of it. Instead Markiplier played Alphabet Lane. And honestly I think because of that 123 SMS never picked up or never will pick up. The games had potential. But since it was a tiny dev team and since nobody big was playing it. It just fell into obscurity. Although there was a time where 123 SMS characters was in a “arg” of sorts. Odd stories for odd children was it’s name. I do hope these games do come back into something big. I really enjoyed them.

Nice analysis, I wouldn't mind seeing a feature on the sequel. One of the creators also seems to have made another FNAF inspired game a few years later called Midnight Evil that uses your voice as part of the controls.

this game was and still is my favorite horror game for that time, and it still manages to scare me shitless😭

Bro I really thought this game was a fever dream of mine.

I'm happy that someone finally talk about this game and hopefully it sequel and one really quick fun fact that being there was a rich meant to be a fourth puppet called the Hunter it was seen in some early promotional art for the first and the second game but it just never made it hopefully it gets put into the remake of the first game

The developers have actually been updating on the next 123 Slaughter Me Street, so I believe it hasn't been discontinued at all

if a new monster would ever be added, a cool concept for it would be that it runs towards you, and you need to get into the closest hall to you and wait for it to run past forward. it doesnt make much sense considering that the follower is already blocking the way, but maybe he would just come out of a hallway behind you and you have to enter one to dodge him.

Fun fact, dang vr’s help wanted dlc had a mini game a lot like this game, with changed mechanics but mainly similar design

I already imagined a potential new puppet for this game. The gazer. It walks in FRONT of you, heading to the end of the hall, occasionally looking back with large glowing eyes. If you move of flash while its staring at you. Ya die. BUT, it also half prevents the follower from gaining on you

I really, really recommend covering sms 2, it’s a big improvement over the first game with free roam, more mechanics and more puppets.

I think you should cover the sequel next. Would be cool to see these games being brought up again. Sadly there is no SMS 3. But there is supposed to be a remake. Since if you go to Impulse Games Studios RU-vid Channel. They've been showing updates on this remake.

I remember that the sequel to this game taught me to never expect anything out of sequels as a kid.

You should definitely give the sequel a go. edit: a small cast of characters is fine but in a game like this the later nights would have benefited more from the introduction of curve balls the puppets could throw at you instead. edit: last I heard the devs are working on remaking this one too actually.

123 SMS 2 is pretty cool but is MUCH different than the first I feel like a few of your points are a little harsh, considering FNAF did similar things, like very few threats (SMS has 3, FNAF 1 had 4/5), and both are very RNG based in their first Small corrections SMS is NOT over, SMS 3 is happening, and a remake of 1 Also, a nitpick, The Greeter is female, not male

Giving this title's gameplay a 7/10 is IGN level's of criticism.

While watching this I'm kinda surprised you didn't mentioned even a little as a side note of the show the creators made called disturbing stories for disturbed children on RU-vid I didn't watch much as it was a pain to find a full ep and I could mostly find clips from it soo idk if there was any story bits to 123 in thus show or not
