In this video I take on a challenge lock from Jillian's "Super Spring"
Whipped videos highlight custom made locks sent to the LockLab as a challenge. They contain innovative modifications, unique security designs, and careful craftsmanship. Challenge lock design is difficult, to say the least, but many LockSporters excel in lock design and hand craftsmanship. Because there is such innovation among LockSporters, many manufacturers pay attention to the WHIPPED videos and incorporate the security techniques into their own locks.
There is only ONE RULE: The key must work. You are free to cover up the key to prevent me from seeing it until after I successfully pick (or fail to pick) the lock. I will make THREE 10-minute attempts (down from six 10-minute attempts in April 2018). If I fail to open it in that time, it will become a WHIPPED video. If you are interested in sending a challenge lock, please use this address:

Don't understand why anyone would thumbs down your videos. I find them fascinating and oddly relaxing. Maybe I'm just odd.

Probably because they're not into locksports, got sent here by algorithm accident. I know that's how I ended up watching these vids lol

The songbirds added a nice touch to the video. Make sure you give them credit for keeping the mood calm during this challenging lock pick.

You have to factor in metal fatigue, he's used some of his favourite picks for some time now, he's got spares but they usually wouldn't get replaced until one breaks. Metal "work hardens", depending on the composition and treatment of the picks in production it's only a matter of time. I reckon the past few pick breaks have been down to this. The last vid of Bills I watched was a train wreck as far as picks went lol.

With the magnified view, those extra springs look like the coil springs off of a car vs the standard ones. :)

Hi there! New subscriber. Found your channel and decided I wanted to give lockpicking a shot. I ended up going with some $14 set on Wish. Comes with a transparent lock, 12 picks and 2 tension bars! I'm sure it won't last too long, but I didn't want to buy a high end set and not have a knack for it. You're an inspiration!

Nice picking ;) You know the Abus/Cisa security profile TSB-5000, that actually requires three tools to pick open, since the pins are actually recessed in that extreme piece of warding.
@stonemason9063
@stonemason9063 6 лет назад
Jillian Latorre you know it's a good lock when bill ruins 3 perfectly good picks to get it open, great craftsmanship. btw what did that big nasty spring in number 5 come out of?
@JillianLatorreTS
@JillianLatorreTS 6 лет назад
The very thick springs I actually ordered from a Chinese seller on eBay. The reason why they are doubled up with lighter-tension springs is because if I used a full length of the thick spring, the lock will not operate. Also, another reason why Bill was able to pick it open is because of the more level bitting. Also why the key is a little rough is because I initially mis-cut that key, so I had to make some improvisations.
@stonemason9063
@stonemason9063 6 лет назад
Jillian Latorre well, it definitely worked very well, I'm not very good at making locks, but I've always wondered if the big thick springs from rc car suspension would work in a lock. you can get them in some pretty narrow sizes but they are extremely strong. I'd be curious if they could be made into a functional lock or if they would be too strong to even get the key in lol
@JillianLatorreTS
@JillianLatorreTS 6 лет назад
If you can find RC car springs in 3/32" Outer Diameter, they will work very well.
@stonemason9063
@stonemason9063 6 лет назад
Jillian Latorre as for the key, the key looks great in my opinion. only suggestion I would have is maybe do some really deep cuts up towards the front to help push his pick towards the warding and make it hard for him to get to the rear pins. also could cause an overset and possibly force a reset of the tumbler.

@@Stigstigster LPL often practices on a lock before making a video. That makes for a very slick presentation, but we don't see much of the reality of the art. That's where Bill really shines; his videos are recorded 'live'. Both are excellent, but for different reasons, and that makes both channels very interesting.

Bill - can you comment on how different picking "bare" locks like this is, compared to picking in the field where door jams and the material of the door might figure in?

Watching Bill pick this nightmare is like watching me pick a cheap Master lock! I get lucky picking some and have more success raking simple locks, just a beginner. This is lock surgery at its finest.

The white pin tray washes out, making it harder to look at the pins on the table. You may want to avoid white plastic trays.

Yeah, but it was fair for him to share it non the less. The person who made it obviously respects and enjoys Bills vids enough for him to go to the effort to make and send it, and Bill repayed the favour by showing it.

What about using titanium tweezers to avoid the magnetism? If you still want to keep them on your magnet strip, just glue or shrink wrap a piece of steel to the handle.
@matthewkriebel7342
@matthewkriebel7342 6 лет назад
Logic Bob he had a pair. Either he misplaced them or there's some other reason they aren't as good.
@LogicBob
@LogicBob 6 лет назад
Matthew Kriebel Yeah, I figured he lost them or didn't like them BECAUSE they couldn't be stored on the magnet rail thing. That was what to I really meant.
@AlbertLebel
@AlbertLebel 6 лет назад
I bought some magnetic tape and stuck a piece to all my tweezers etc. Its not strong but it sticks great to another strip of the same.

Idea. Why couldn't you get a key blank and cut it like a salesman/hotel lockout except without the end catch? It would give you a flat surface to pick off of.

Can any of you guys help me out? I'm new to this. I'm a carpenter in the UK and I'm looking to get into Locksmithing. I'm perplexed at the amount of people who do Locksmith Training courses yet there seems to be little or no regulation of it. I'm happy to pay but I don't want to get ripped off. Any recommendation of a good genuine Locksmith training school would be most appreciated.

TheBadgolferman b Hey buddy, I am in the US and the only people I know in the UK are locksport hobbiest... But they are the most friendly and helpful people I know. Look up on RU-vid UKLS (UK locksport) or any of the locksport community here on RU-vid. (I am subscribed to almost all of them if you want a list of people who might help) Good luck on your journey ~S🃏P~

I went thru the University of Phoenix to get the basics but I was disappointed in the quality of the class. I had already learned what they were teaching. Honestly, I gain more useful info from you tube vids such as Bills. If you don't have ANY knowledge of locks at this point, you might try the University's course. They did include a heavy duty key cutter.
