A real test would be to just get the same rider to do 3 laps on each and compare the best lap times

Guys let’s put our differences aside and be glad we don’t ride four wheelers (2 years later and I still fully stand behind my statement)

I like that deep sound of the 4 stroke. However the 2 stroke sound is classic.

The only thing that matters is the rider, ive seen a guy on a 125 smoke a guy on a 450

I like the nostalgia of a 2 stroke and the simplicity but usually the 4 strokes come out on top. Still both amazing and powerful bikes.

I literally hate it when people make fun of my bike because it’s a 4 stroke, like ok I’m sorry I want fuel efficiency and don’t need a crap load of torque. But they just say “ugh u baby get a real bike!” And then they loop out and run out of gas.

The rider on the 250 is alittle better if you put him on the 125 he would be even faster, the other guy didn't shift the 125 enough to clear them big jumps or rail the turns hard

Depends on the rider... Obviously the 2 stroke rider has bigger balls tho...

It's beyond me why anyone would go out and buy a bike that's needs and engine twice as big with 6 gazillion more moving parts to be competitive...

I had a KTM 125 for years, I loved that thing, and love the sound of them most. I’d go for a 4 stroke today just because I’ve never owned one (outside of an old 100 Honda which was a low-set beginner’s style of bike for trails). But can’t beat the sound of a 2-smoke.

Great video. No chatter, no annoying and pointless music, just well shot video of the bikes. I'd give the race to the 250, but not by much.

The 1 stroke clearly won

Clearly the 250 won. But the performance of that 2 stroke engine was fab. Well, here in India we all are fans of two strokes. It all started when jawa launched its yezdi roadking. It was a fabulous time. Then came Yamaha with its rx100, rx135 and finally the rd350. Those were the good times.

125 2 stroke sounds like a annoying mosquito. Give me all the hate you got. I'm born ready.

Like other people already mentioned, the rider seems to be much more deciding in this particular comparison. I don't think there's a lot of difference between these bikes in terms of performance. There were multiple moments where both the 125SX and KX250F were able to pull away from each other significantly. I myself like two strokes more because of the sound, simplicity and power delivery, but let's not forget why pretty much all modern ICEs in any type of vehicle are four strokes.

4 stroke 250 but the driver matters too

It's all about the rider ... I never have owned a 4stroke . Still to this day .. only bike I ride YZ250 smoker .. best all around bike .. Bbbbrrrrraaaappp.

2 Stroke all the way

The 2 stroke could easily go faster. The 250 has way more power and can overcome more obstacles. So it honestly depends on a lot of things.

I like two strokes better for many reasons. One big reason is the cost to rebuild is cheaper and easier.

I feel like the 4 stroke obviously won, but it just shows that if a 125 can keep up with a 250 2 strokes are the faster bike (sounds cooler too!)

Looks like 4t puts power down better. Rider on 4t better slightly. I'll take 2t all day. Love the sound and throttle response. Love my kx100

I'm a 2 stroke guy all the way so I vote 125

They both did a bit of sand bagging a couple times so they'd stay close (it looks like it anyways). I grew up racing 2 stroke 125's and 250's in the 80's so I miss those days, but I ride as much (if not as hard, LOL) now and have grown to love modern 4 strokes too. I've no opinion on "which won", I was just happy to get to enjoy watching them both running 😁✌

Any of the new 4 stroke 250s will smoke the 125s with the right riders

I go 125 because for me it feels much lighter and easier to control so despite the power of the 250 I still feel I can ride my 125 faster than I can a 250f

Just riding a bike is great. I like 2 strokes, and own a 2108 Husky TC250 2 stroke. It has everything the Yamaha doesn't. Counter balanced engine, Brembo brakes, Hydraulic clutch with break away lever. How about a 2 stage digital adjustable ignition that can be changed on the fly. How about the best air forks on the market. Oh, yeah, the carbon fiber sub frame. Yamaha's are great, but the husky's have 115 years of experience, and more than 80 world championships backing them up. You do get what you pay for. Ride what you have. Don't hate on anyone. Enjoy the sport. Come together to keep it strong. We all have something in common.

I was hoping they'd switch bikes half way through and do it again to see what balances out.

Seems to me the four stroke was noticeably stronger at low and high speeds.The 2 stroke was awesome and you can't beat the screaming engine sound.I don't like it but the 4 over the 2 stroke.It took years to admit that.lol

It looks like the 250 could pull away whenever he wanted plus he was sending it more. The ktm had to take better lines to make a pass, but then lost it once the kawi decided to turn on the gas. So I say 250 4 stroke even though the ktm 125 sounded waaaaay better. 😍

It's ALWAYS the rider! Case in point: Many hears ago I did a desert ride wth a Honda CR 125cc and was racing a 250 Honda CR and a 400cc Maico. I had never ridden with these two guys and had no reference to their skills, so, I decided to ride as hard as I could since they had "bigger" bikes. I pulled out front of them and picked short, swithcy lines that their heavier bikes might have a little trouble with. I had pulled ahead of the 250 by about 500 yards. I stopped to chat with the 250 rider, but the 400 rider was nowhere to be seen. We got worried and back-tracked all the way back to camp where we found the 400 rider sitting in a chair opening up a beer. He didn't say shit!

Well considering they are a KTM and Kawasaki I have serious doubt they both made it to the finish.

Could of come down to the rider, I was hoping they were gonna switch bikes to see if there was any difference in the out come, was a pretty tight race all round but the four stroke seemed to have the upper hand🏁

I own a 2003 KX125 and a 2018 KX250F........I rode them today at a local track here in Austin. I love them both but when my 125 "gets on the pipe", it is faster than my 250F. They each have their good qualities. My 250F let's me lug around in 3rd gear on most of the track and has great torque out of the corners, where my 125 requires more attention and effort to ride, but over all, my 125 is faster.

The 250 should win hands down, but being an old bugger I love the 2 strokes. Seem to be a bit of hurry up and catch up going on too.

Gotta go with the kawi 250 just had more power setting there waiting outa the corners came out way faster and the 125 was keeping up just was working way to hard to stay in front. Gotta say good race but 250 was the clear winner. Coming from a Two joker rider gotta say the 4 stroke took it

I've ridden both. Love them both. I think the ktm150 is a better match for the 250. The 125 needs to be in the band to be competitive...the 250 is more versatile wrt rpm. I love both by the way. Who doesn't love the smell of 50:1 in the morning. I think it was a tie - do over...📠🛴

In a straight line race the 250f seems to have an advantage, but the 125 is easier to maneuver, even if it is less power, since it is smaller and lighter.

I’ve been riding 2 stroke and 4 stroke and i feel more safe on the 4 stroke beqause the 2 strokes insane powerband. But 2 stroke still the best tho. (in my opinion)

New four-stroke 250 are more powerful than 125 2 strokes, and the weight is not much higher. even 150 cc ktm is unable to beat the four stroke. The difference is seen on track and dyno. however, the differences are not so great. The driver's abilities still determine the winner.

Guy on the KXF is clearly the better skilled rider, they are close lap times wise but the fella on the kawi would beat the other guy on both bikes imo

250 4 stroke won for me it is more powerful but bigger, I'd rather ride the 125 2 stroke

As an average weekend rider put it this way. #1 rebuild cost, 4 stroke rebuilds are more expensive. #2 usage of full throttle by your average rider, i.e. How often is it neccesary to be full throttle on a 250f. #3 control, which is up to your skill level. A 125 2 stroke is going to be easier to throw around and learn things on vs a bigger heavier bike especially for the trail riders. Unless youre over 6ft & can't fit on a 125

My Favourite bike I've owned was a 1999 CR250 an absolute animal!!!!!! Later years I got into Supermoto, Honda 2004 CRF450 was the weapon of choice for that! Whilst I am not the best of riders (Knocked out doing MX and SM) I loved it all! Tried a KTM, never again!!!! For Dirt 2 stroke, for mixed or dual sport 4 stroke! I guess riding for hours as opposed to sprints - the 4 stroke wins! But that's only my opinion!

We all know the 250's are slightly faster than a 125 on a track nowadays. My buddy has a 2014 kx250f piped, intake, standard map switch. I've got an '03 kx125 procircuit works pipe, shorty silencer, fresh piston and cylinder. I'm probably 30lbs heavier than him, we holeshot race all the time and it always comes down to who gets the better start, when we pull side by side, we stay dead even. That holeshot device gives him a big advantage launching tho. Always fun racing together as they're so close! His suspension is miles better, but mines no slouch either considering the age of it. The 125 is easier to get a bit crazy with and throw it around. Even he says tho that the powerband hit on mine is way more fun than the tractor like torque hit off the bottom of his. Also like how I sit more "in" my bike vs "on top" on the 250. Biggest difference performance wise is the braking ability of the 250, damn that thing stops. He also has a magura hydraulic clutch conversion and that is the cats frickin azz, so light and easy to use with 1 finger. That's my take on em, still great fun on both bikes!

I would say the 125 one as 2 strokes have big acceleration adavantage

I k ow 4 strokes are so much easier to ride and have better bottom end, but if you get someone on a 2 stroke that understands how to stay on the pipe, it’s so awesome. 2 strokes sound and smell so good.

This definitely came down to rider skill, both riders were obviously faster and more confident on different parts of the track
