Here's a tip for the staining on your mortar and pestle. The reason the pigment is staining it is because the material it's made out of is very porous. If you get a glass mortar and pestle it won't stain like that. 😊

This has been my plan for a long time. I have titanium dioxide too. And a morter and pestle. I didn't think about using part b of the resin though. I had heard you use only part a. Good to know, and great video❤
@debrajol3585
@debrajol3585 Год назад
It’s either part. I’ve used both bc I didn’t know😂 Part A is thicker & seems to absorb pigments better making a ‘paste’.. I think the whole thing is to use as small amounts as possible bc it is adding more A or B to the mix, thus the paste company’s saying use 2% or less total volume. Using less bc it’s the resin side means no special calculations needed. Happy Arting!

Sjp bought ones are usually more pigmented so with your home made ones you will need a little more. All depends how much powder you've managed to cram in. Do remember that the shop bought ones last a heck of a long time so can be very good value, one you are in a position to invest

There are universal resins that can be used without any issues instead of using the regular resin one uses in pours and such. Many are used by big companies that make pastes and paints to alleviate the resin compatibility. Just a thought to check into those companies as it’s considered a good way to make pastes. I’ve tons of mica here so this is a great shortcut for using up those fly away powders. But I’m going to snag some of the additive and compare the results. ❤
@miniscenesgb
@miniscenesgb Год назад
Definitely worth experimenting, I've used at least 8 different brands, some deep pours , some regular, and sometimes part b and sometimes a, all seem to work fine. I'll be interested to see your findings as it sounds like you'll be going well beyond what I did here
@LostSiren13

@@miniscenesgb there are a few books on how to do so with resin and paint and the additives they use. Though some read like stereo manuals. Lol. I had a list of the additives and now can’t find it. Ugh. My day started that way at 3:30 AM. If I find it again I’ll let you know.

That would be awesome. Although I have a drawer full of pastes I’ve made, mixing my own colors and using every resin variation imaginable. I think the percent is so small that it doesn’t really matter. The issue is running out. If we use Part A too much then we get to the bottom of the bottles and don’t have enough Part A. ~~My favorite colors are basics mixed with interference colors. Example - One good bright red can be made into so many different shades with interferences.. and so on. Thanks for sharing your information.. I’ll be checking this out ❤

I've tried chameleon in this video and no - it really doesn't affect it, works just the same which was a relief :). The silver you will see on my giant geode video - after making into a paste it will mostly integrate into the resin, but a bit still floats. My question is whether or not it matters what type of resin you used for the paste if it’s not the same type being used when you pour? Like if you make paste with 1:1 type, will it matter if you use it in a 2:1 type when you pour, or fast cure versus deep pour, etc.?
@miniscenesgb

Good question - as there is such a tiny amount when you finally use it, so far I have found no difference at all asl long as it's some sort of epoxy. remember you usually use only the size of a pea at most when you put it into your main mix, so that's probably why it doesn't seem to matter

I have a theory about the having excess. After reading in the groups, everyone complaining about this topic, I started analyzing how I measured. I noticed that when I stopped pouring, the part B (I always start w/ B first) would be just above the measuring line. So I started paying closer attention to this... and noticed myself doing it with part A as well at times! Ok, so improper measuring to start. Also, do you measure at eye level? Lesson I learned either you go down to the counter level, or bring the measuring device up to your eye level. If you are looking down at it or at an angle it's not "properly" measured. But that's my .02! Thank you for this demo. I'd wondered about what to do w/ my excess and this is such a wonderful idea. I'm also going to start mixing a bit of mica in with resin to make dots of color and glue them to the appropriate pot so I will remember what it looks like in resin, versus the dry powder. I've great enjoyed all your videos even if I don't comment on them. I look forward to more. oh! Lol I think for me it depends which and how much I've wasted by spilling it or something silly like that. Either works fine for me when making paste. The pestle and mortar is the real game changer - it breaks the powder down far better than any other method I've seen

nice pastes! i think the silver one was a shimmer powder... not really a mica, even though it will be sold like that. Thanks for sharing!🥰

It is sold as " Floating Powder", they do say it's not Mica. Lovely isn't it
@mattersofthehartbynat8815

@@miniscenesgbThat is correct Tracey… it is actually a metallic powder, which is why it mixed so differently… and the ‘floating’ usually happens best when it is heated after it’s mixed with resin and poured onto the substrate/into the mould. But, OMG!! Didn’t it mix to a stunning paste!! I bought cheap brand of it, before I could afford a more expensive one (not that I’m not impressed with how the cheap one worked in my pieces), so I am excited to try this with what’s left of that cheaper version! And on the left over resin train… before I tell you that, yes, I always have left over of one or the other… I want to say that I have NEVER seen a video of yours where you measure your resin!! Granted, I haven’t seen all your videos (yet)… but I’m guessing this is the reason you have left over!! As for me… I always measure my resin… and STILL have left over!! 🤷‍♀️ 🤷‍♀️ 🤷‍♀️ 🤣 🤣 🤣 Thank you so very much Tracey, for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us… it is really, really appreciated!! Much love, Nat. ♥️♥️🇦🇺

I began making my own resin paste, with part B because it's the one that seems to always have something leftover (no matter the brand, no matter the exact measurements!). I absolutely LOVE that silver! Too bad it's so expensive, and the shipping just as bad!
@miniscenesgb
@miniscenesgb Год назад
It's a big tub which lasts a very long time so not as expensive as you'd initially think. Shipping usually works out fine, if outside the uk get in touch with them to discuss and they will work out the most economical way to send it

@@miniscenesgb I've decided come next payday that I'm ordering the silver and also the gold, they're $17 USD each ($34) with another $13 for shipping (so $47). If I end up selling anything that's made with either of them, those items are going to be more expensive for sure lol I'm also going to see how they react in acrylic fluid art 😊

@@DAsAngel1960 you will find they are in big tubs and it goes a very long way - you only need a tiny little bit - so I'm sure you'll get your money's worth :)

Thanks, it was very informative 😊, love the jars but that was the bead’er in me 😹😹 I have this makeup kit I bought years ago it has a 100 colours in it I might use them plus I have some chalk/oil like paint sticks they should work well in that as well. So it looks like I will be ordering a lot of them jars and a small bottle set of resin as it should not matter which one I use A or B as long as they don’t get mixed together that is😹😹 I have an old mortar and pestle set that the hospital gave me to crush Dads tablets in, my local chemist had a right proper pill crusher 😹😹😹 so I can use that, can’t use my other one it’s for making my own oil pigment paints. It’s very much like making the oil paints you have to keep working it so the pigments are completely absorbed by the linseed oil, the longer you work it the better the quality of the paint, so I would imagine the same would apply to the resin. Umm been a long time since I have mixed any of my oils lol but it has just given me an idea, I have tubes of Jo Sonja paints that for some unknown reason a rat decided to put holes in all of them I did not throw them out as I thought I could use them like paint sticks but that did not work out so well, just maybe I can use the mortar & Pestle and bring them back into powder they can not be used for painting but maybe this might give them a new life. I bought a heap of alcohol pens but don’t like them for colouring so I will put them into more alcohol in dropper bottles and make my own ink with them. Yep you have given me heaps to look at and fix😹😹😹 thank you for sharing 🤗🤗
