I’m Irish & Catholic & I love theses parades. Plus i for one don’t want anything to do with a United Ireland. Anyone who does really doesn’t understand what there asking for. No free healthcare, paying for water, higher tax, etc etc, Northern Ireland is better off being part of the union. Anyone with a brain cell could see it. Is it any wonder the people from the Republic of Ireland come across the border to buy Groceries, fuel etc etc. The cost of living in the republic is a joke. But then that’s what happens when your tied to the corrupt EU.
Yes because 10’s of thousands of Protestants had to flee during the Troubles. Protestants are moving back however. 🇬🇧 Protestants and Catholics live peacefully side by side in most of the UK.

dv86 boom regardless of what you say, wither these parades go through so called Catholic or loyalist areas it’s still the Queens highway. This is part of loyalist culture like it or not & the vast majority of parades especially the twelfth are NOT out to create trouble or rub other people’s noses in it. People who don’t want to attend theses parades or agree with them, I’m sure there’s plenty of opportunity’s to do something else. If these bands were marching around Catholic housing estates then that would be a different issue. But there not, as they stick to main roads ie the Queens highway. So until both sides respect each other’s cultures and stop complaining then this province of Ulster can move on.
@Caroline I know. I went to school in Derry (St Columb's). I used to laugh at these people but they become more tragic with each passing year. Loyalism is a story without a happy ending.

Yes, they don't seem to realise that England & Ireland are friends now. They can live in a united Ireland & still retain their property & UK heritage. Nobody has taken rights from English descendants in the US, NZ, Aus, Canada etcetera & even in the southern part of Ireland.

The orange lodge marchers are unionists (descendants of English & Scottish immigrants to Ireland who want to be governed by England) They resent the natives & those British immigrants who want to end the colonial legacy and enable Ireland to be an independent nation because they are afraid that they will be disenfranchised without the protection of the English government. They are generally viewed in England, Ireland, and overseas as somewhere between ignorant & hateful, like remnants of South Africa's apartheid advocates. The history is quite complex, and over almost a thousand years of warfare a lot of baggage and hostility has accrued, but that's the context.

@@lizwhittleston5963 I could ask why you post questions when you clearly don't want an answer. I watch these because my heritage includes the orange (and I've worn British army greens with pride). I find it fascinating to look at those involved to try and understand what goes through their minds. I understand ancestors being into conquest & expansion, and I don't begrudge them, but the difference is that we are not under the illusion that nationality is lesser or not deserving of self determination. So how do people in the 21st century tell themselves that they're the not the bad guys while taunting a small nation using the weight of one larger is more powerful? And why are they so terrified of taking on citizenship in the country in which they reside as if that will somehow erase their heritage - it won't, people do it all the time. I'd be interested in your true, well thought out perspective, really facing up to the behaviour, but I'll be surprised if you don't just spout another smart alec line instead.
