Benjamin was a multi talent. Playing several instruments. His baritone voice was like golden honey. Ben was definitely the far better singer with a wide vocal range. Ben had Charisma, a Rock Star presence, & looks with a killer smile. Most of The Cars hits were sung by Benjamin Orr. Ric’s voice was fractious, most of the time, & just not in the same class as Ben’s. Ric might have been a talented music writer. But all those tunes had to be polished & turned into hits with the input of the incredible Ben, Elliot, Greg & Dave. Without those 4 other enormously talented musicians those songs would not have given “The Cars”there unique sound & hits. Yet the gangly, awkward, Ric was prancing around on most of the videos & doing most of the singing. His voice was like the unpleasant sound of chalk scratching on a blackboard. Ric promoted himself full on. The super talents of the other 4 band members were nowhere as well promoted as Ric The dynamics were all wrong. Continuously, throughout the years, you kept hearing that Ben was underrated as a singer & Musician. Not many people were aware that there were 2 singers in The Cars - they thought it was all Ric. Ric kept it that way. Benjamin was, at times, frustrated with the situation. It’s all coming out now since Ric’s death in 2019. Elliot was always mentioned as an underrated guitarist. Yet he was highly skilled & musically trained for years, as was Greg, Dave was a skilled & great drummer. It’s time to give Benjamin, Elliot, Greg & Dave their deserved due & respect in that phenomenal band & not only have Ric taking all the glory for their success.
@@NorthernLights2375 I just kinda finding out about how much the other bandmates were kinda neglected in the MTV era of the cars due to how they were promoted...Kinda sad...People keep saying how Ric was so humble aw he gave been the parts he knew he couldn't sing as well, or I didn't know there were two singers because they sound alike?...wtf..they don't sound alike..I have read articles from Ric and other bandmates...and its the things not said and some of the snarky dismissive things said in some interviews that kinda stand out...I get it Ric wrote the lyrics and has gotten praise and accolades and yes he does deserve credit, no denying.This band was ultimately a group effort, with members having different and similar interests that formed the complete sound that defined them in the first 3albums...The whole band has stated in multiple interviews how the writing/completion of songs would go..they all would say they would add their input and their parts to the final product and have a say in if some lyrics didn't work or getting the individual parts right to fit the feel of the songs.
@@NorthernLights2375 Also, I love Hawks play w/ multiple sounds and the synth and Elliot's flair on lead guitar..I do think that the bandmates are humble though which is nice that they aren't public drama queens and are very skilled musicians w/ talent and artistic skill.
@@NorthernLights2375 Very well said! Ben had "the voice" he was the epitome of the 80's rocker good looks and a great voice. Yes Ric did write the songs but he needed someone with Ben's vocal abilities to take those songs to a higher level.
